Leftism, it’s a powerful drug that transcends all other allegiances and makes even suicide seem appealing.
WDR is Westdeutscher Rundfunk Köln, a German public broadcasting entity in North Rhine-Westphalia.
“WDR journalist Beckhardt: May God kill all friends of the Jews!,” translated from “WDR-Journalist Beckhardt: Gott möge alle Judenfreunde töten!,” by Michael van Laack, Philosophia Perennis, May 12, 2021 (thanks to Medforth):
Lorenz Salomon Beckhardt is a Jew himself. He did not find out about this until he was a young adult, as his parents, as Shoah survivors, wanted him to grow up carefree (?). Today Beckhardt is a WDR employee and, among other things, editor of the science magazine “Quarks.” Above all, however, he is a brave fighter against the right.
This irrepressible will to fight against everyone who is to the right of WDR, Annalena Baerbock and Lusia Neubauer was probably also his motivation for posting this tweet yesterday, which was deleted a few hours later by Twitter for violating community standards:
Anti-Semitic hate speech in the fight against anti-Semitism?
Because in the fight against the right-wing or even just against supposed Nazis, even as a child of survivors of the Shoah, one can indulge in a wording that anti-Semites like to use contemptuously. The term philosemitism was often used in standard works of the forerunners of National Socialism to disparage friends of the Jewish people, their religion and culture. “Friend of the Jews” was seen as a swear word that could hardly be made more offensive.
That makes Beckhardt’s usage all the worse. Obviously, the German left is now using every means to fight the enemies of their pseudo-open society. And from Beckhardt’s point of view, Hans-Georg Maaßen is undoubtedly one of them.
Will this tweet have any consequences for Beckhardt? Certainly, but probably not below the Grimme Prize or the Federal Cross of Merit!

I normally never support globalist trends, but I might make one exception here. Normally, in the US, the only people who are termed ‘Christians’ are practicing, believing Christians: Atheists, Agnostics, Communists and Secular people don’t fall in that category, even if their parents may have been Christians or even if they themselves may have been baptized during their childhoods. Similarly, secular Jews should not be identified as Jews, but rather as secular Leftists, and the same goes for secular Hindus, secular Buddhists and so on. Once this sort of a demarcation becomes the norm, those weasels won’t be able to say ‘Look, I’m a Jew but I condemn the Zionists’ or ‘Look, I’m a Hindu but I condemn Hindutva’. The language should be set in black & white
somehistory says
I agree. And so does the Book that real Jews and real Christians read and believe. There is a verse by the Apostle Paul who wrote, “A Jew is one on the inside.”
What matters is the heart, and what is actually believed by the one speaking, not by other factors as you laid out.
This guy is a fool and a tool for evil. Calling for the death of people who are friends of the Jews. That is about as low as one can go. Calling for the deaths of innocent people…whatever their station in life, or wherever they may live, their heritage, or language, etc.
The Greatest Man Who ever lived was a Jew.
Mauricio says
I think the distinction you guys are talking about is between “race” and “religion”. People have long confuse this two terms when referring to the Jews.
A Christian must revere the “Jewish race” since, like somehistory claims here, “The Greatest Man Who ever lived was a Jew (by race).” And also the Mother of God and the rest of the apostles and first Christians were Jewish by race.
Saint Paul talks about this place of honor from converted Jews in his letter to the Romans, chapters 9 to 11.
However, the “Jewish religion”, represented mostly by its leaders, the Pharisees and scribes, is usually blamed at in the Gospels and Acts of the apostles, as being in fault for killing Jesus and for lying about his Resurrection.
That is why the adjective “Jew” may be misunderstood and creates so many contradicting perspectives.
somehistory says
Mauricio,
I agree with you.
The only way to **explain** it all, is to quote every verse in the bible…esp the books from Matthew on to the end, and many of the Hebrew Scriptures, as well.
As I wrote, partly, what Paul said, a person can be a “spiritual Jew” by loving the God of the Jews and the Son He sent forth. We are not “under Law,” but obey the “spirit of the Law,” that is “written on hearts.”
The “two greatest commandments” are still in force.
There was, of course, the “race” of Jews before they received the Law through Moses. Many of those of the “race” have never wanted to be a part of the “spiritual” side of things…. back then, and now.
gravenimage says
Mauricio, your implication that the Jewish religion is evil is terribly odd.
Firstly, it was the Roman Empire, not Jewish people, who had Jesus crucified.
Then, Jesus himself said in Matthew 5:17:
“Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or
the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.”
This hardly jibes with the idea that Christianity considers Judaism to be evil.
somehistory says
g,
I don’t believe that Mauricio was saying that the “religion” was evil.
In my understanding of his statement, some see it as a bad thing due to what the Pharisees and other religious leaders were doing. And what they finally did in regard to Jesus.
Jesus Himself condemned those religious leaders, calling them “vipers,” “whitewashed graves,” and telling the people to “do as they say, not as they do.” He asked them, “How are you to flee the Judgment of Gehenna?” He said, “You are from your father, the devil, and you wish to do the desires of your father.”
Jesus was put on trial by the religious leaders, including the High Priest and “found guilty,” being subject to execution. The religious leaders were afraid of the Jewish people, so they didn’t want to execute Jesus because of this fear…so they got the Roman government to do the foul deed.
When Jesus was killed, they tried to get the wording over his head changed, but Pilate told them, basically, “it says what it says,” and wouldn’t change it.
And when Pilate offered to free Jesus if the people wanted him freed, they yelled for the thief to be freed instead. Pilate said that he found no crime in Jesus, and that is why he “washed his hands” trying to distance himself from the murder of our Lord.
somehistory says
Correction: Barabbas was not said to be a thief; in Luke 23:19, it says, “he was “in prison with the rebels who had committed murder during the insurrection” against the occupying Roman forces.” (a quick google search) Worse than a thief, evidently.
Mauricio says
Thanks a lot for your responses, Somehistory.

Well said. This “guy” is a fool and the sooner that God kills him the better.
We now truly live in an insane age. Intellect has gone to hell and in its place we have hatred, intolerance, bigotry – and cowardly, stupid leaders who tolerate and excuse mindlessly stupid Muslim hatred and violence.

You could be right re Mauricio’s comments, Somehistory.
The Pharisees have not been around for some time, though, and have nothing to do with Judaism itself.
somehistory says
g,
“Christianity” doesn’t believe that Judaism is evil.
However, some people who consider themselves to be Christian, don’t like, and some hate, the Jews due to their part in the death of Jesus.
However, you said that the Pharisees “haven’t been around for some time’ anddidn’t have anything to do with Judaism.
It really doesn’t matter to these ones that the Pharisees haven’t been around for a long time. The account is in the Bible that the Pharisees were looking the entire time for a way to silence Jesus and how they could put him to death.
And, what is more, they had a lot “to do with Judaism.’ They were the “teachers of the Law.” They were the instructors to the community of Jews, so they had everything to do with it.
Recall, Jesus said they “strained at the gnat, but gulped down the camel.” They made sure to follow the Law regarding food, “the dill and the cumin,” but “disregarded the weightier matters,”
But, He also told the common people: “Do as they tell you, not as they do.” Jesus knew that the Pharisees taught the Law, but they didn’t correctly follow it.
After Jesus had stood up in the Synagogue and read from Isaiah, the people were “astounded” and said, “He teaches as One having authority and not as the scribes.”
The Scribes and the Pharisees were usually together scheming to have Jesus killed.
the Christians who blame the Jews for Jesus’ murder are not considering that it wasn’t the entire nation, but mostly the prominent ones in authority over the common people.

You’re welcome and thanks, guys.
Saw the ophthalmologist today and my eyes are very much still dilated. Difficult to see, but I wanted to respond.
gravenimage says
Somehistory, I consider the Pharisees in much the same way that I consider bad popes or other bad high-ranking Christian clerics.
somehistory says
And that’s good, g.
Mauricio was specifically writing about those who hold all of the Jews guilty for what the religious leaders of Jesus’ day did.
Much as some people hold all Christians guilty for what some who claimed to be Christians have done. And that goes back to what Infidel wrote at the beginning of this thread.
The pope, claiming to be, what is it, the ‘vicar” of Christ, gives Christianity a black eye in the minds of a lot of people…because he is no Christian and, yet, he spouts off about what Christians need to be doing, and sitting in judgment of anyone not welcoming mozlums into their households.
But, as the Pharisees did, he talks about what (he has decided) needs to be done in this regard, but he’s not inviting them into the Vatican.
So, if it was the *right* thing to do, then we should do it, even though he does not.
However, it is not the right thing. Just as it is not right that this Jew called on God to kill all of the friends of the Jews.
gravenimage says
Agree, Somehistory.
tim gallagher says
I agree with what you say there, Infidel. Surely, this left wing character might have been born into the Jewish religion, but surely he has left any connection with Judaism behind. He would probably be an atheistic left winger. I am still a Christian, but if I no longer believe in Christianity any more, I would certainly not call myself a Christian any more. I might say that I was brought up as a Christian, but I would definitely not call myself a Christian once I had stopped believing in the precepts of that religion. I see it the way that you do.
somehistory says
One can change their “religion” or belief, but never their race.
Some people do not realize that fact about the Jews. There are many born as a Jew, but never agreed with the religion.
Like g soros. He may have been born in the race of Jew, but never was a Jew at heart or belief.
And, I have known many people who claimed to be Christian, but found much of what Jesus said to be disagreeable to them.
Saying we are Christian doesn’t make it so.
As you say, if we don’t believe, then we are not, even if were raised to be, and baptized and perhaps believed before..
tim gallagher says
I agree with what you say, somehistory I suppose too that Jews have been persecuted to such a great extent throughout history that they would maintain a strong sense of identity as being Jewish even if they weren’t the slightest bit religious.
Mauricio says
Interesting exchange guys.
Actually many of the people I admire are jewish by race, for example, Bob Dylan, Simon and Garfunkel, Stanley Kubrick, I think that guy who directed Ben hur, William Wyler, even the CEO from the company I work for. I don’t think they went to the Synagogue every Shabbat, or read the Torah that often, but some of their work is very valuable, even from a Christian standpoint.
tim gallagher says
Thanks for the comment, Mauricio. There is no doubt, as you mention, that Jewish people have achieved a lot in many fields of human endeavour and contributed a lot. The Jewish people that I have known, in my case probably only 7 or 8 people, mostly did not seem to be involved much with the religion. It was not a very significant aspect of life for them although being Jewish was definitely a significant part of their identity.

You are welcome, Mr. Gallagher and I think you are right.

Correction – it’s an irresistible desire to surrender, that’s the problem.
In any situation – whether an argument or an invasion – cowards instinctively identify the most dangerous forces and cuddle-up to them on the grounds that an early surrender to the likely victor might save their miserable skins.
(From Joseph Heller’s “Catch 22”: “What do you think they’d do to me?” asked Yossarian. “I think we’d probably shoot you.” replied Minderbinder. “We ?” cried Yossarian in shock “I thought you were on my side ?” “If you’re going to get shot….” said Minderbinder reasonably “…whose side do you think I’m going to be on ?”

So he is stating that since he is a Jew, all of his personal friends should be killed by God…

Lorenz Salomon Beckhardt’s parents are Holocaust survivors–so he cannot say that he no idea the implications of what he is saying.
But his history is complicated–he was raised Catholic (I don’t know the circumstances). He wrote about this father in his book, “The Jew with the Swastika”. His father was a pilot and apparently wss in denial over the threat of Fascism right up until he was arested and sent to a concentration camp. History may be repeating itself here…
Terry Gain says
We are not likely to know the cause, but I doubt that Beckhardt’s insanity has anything to do with the fact that his parents were Jewish or that he was raised as a Catholic.
