British Home Secretary Priti Patel has admitted that “‘the concept of open borders’ is a flawed one.” Obviously. Yet, it has been tolerated in the UK for years, to the detriment of British citizens.
A major survey found that Brexit was driven by a reaction to the uncontrollable Muslim migrant surge into Britain.
Now Patel is vowing to unveil sweeping immigration reforms which she says will include “speedier deportation of illegal migrants, including streamlining extradition processes.” This will be no small task, considering that the UK has lost track of tens of thousands of migrants who were due for deportation.
Nonetheless, Patel has already started implementing “a new gold-standard for immigration,” which includes a deal signed with India to open up skilled work opportunities for both countries. It’s a stark contrast to the open-doors policy under which anyone could enter, including jihadists, criminals, drug dealers, rapists and the like. The new standard resembles the long lost points-based system, by which immigrants were assessed for what they can bring to the country.
The new UK reform is bound to attract accusations of “Islamophobia” at some point if it is implemented in any effective way.
Time will tell whether Priti Patel’s new, ambitious plans will finally control the flow of illegal Muslim migrants into the UK. Repeated past promises from the UK government to control the border were nothing more than hollow posturing.
“Priti Patel unveils ‘radical plan’ to stop illegal immigration,” by Matt Dathan, The Times, May 24, 2021:
Only a radical overhaul of the immigration system that “slams the door on dangerous criminals” will meet the demands of the British people, Priti Patel will say today.
The home secretary will promise to deliver a “wholesale reform” of immigration rules and border controls. She will pledge to create “the world’s most effective border system” by implementing a “fully digital border” by 2025.
All visitors to the UK will have to pay about £9 for a US-style electronic travel authorisation (ETA) to ensure that the authorities can carry out security and criminal checks before they arrive.
The digital revolution of borders will enable the government to count the number of people entering and leaving the country…..
“Pact With India Sets Gold-Standard On Immigration: UK’s Priti Patel,” Press Trust of India, May 25, 2021:
London: UK Home Secretary Priti Patel on Monday described the recently signed Migration and Mobility Partnership (MMP) with India as a new gold-standard for immigration, which will open up opportunities for thousands of British and Indian citizens to live and work legally in each other’s countries.
In a major speech to mark the launch of a ‘New Plan for Immigration’, the Indian-origin Cabinet minister referenced the MMP signed with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar during his London visit earlier this month as a ground-breaking initiative that tackles illegal migration in both countries and paves the way for the UK government’s firm but fair post-Brexit immigration system.
Earlier this month, I signed a ground-breaking agreement with India. It tackles illegal migration, both in the UK and in India, accelerating the process of those who have no legal right to stay, said Patel.
“But it also gives opportunities for thousands of British and Indian citizens to live and work legally in each other’s countries. This agreement shows the way forward as we strive for a new gold-standard for immigration one which is both fair and firm, she said.
Under the MMP, the UK and India have agreed to work towards an April 2022 timeline to bring in new systems in place which will include a new bespoke plan for 18 to 30 year olds to apply for a 24-month stay to live and work in either country and also speedier deportation of illegal migrants, including streamlining extradition processes.
Patel’s speech on Monday, addressed to the think tank British Future, was timed for the launch of proposals for a new fully digital border regime over the next few years, which the minister said will provide the ability to count people in and count people out of the country.
We are working on further reforms, including Electronic Travel Authorisations, as part of a simpler and more secure, universal permissions to travel requirement, the minister said.
Our new plan will make it easier to identify potential threats before they reach the border, through targeted and effective interventions from co-ordinated multi-agency operations, she said.
Patel, whose Gujarati-origin family migrated from Uganda in the 1970s, reflected on her own journey as she laid out her plans to get tough on immigration crime and fix the UK’s broken asylum system to take back control of immigration .
Immigration is part of my own story. My family were forced from Uganda and they had the privilege to make a home in the UK. They worked ferociously hard to keep a roof over our heads and secure a life for my family, recalled the 49-year-old senior Conservative Party leader.
I am proud as a Briton and I am proud of my parents and of my British Indian background. And I join the millions of British Indians and children of migrant families who have established a life in one of the greatest countries in the world. But there are many who struggle with this concept, she said.
The minister pointed to the 2016 referendum in favour of Britain’s exit from the European Union (EU) as a sign of the silent majority who look to the Conservative Party led government to establish appropriate measures and border controls on who comes to and settles in the UK.
I believe in fairness and in law and order… The simple reality is it is not possible for everyone who wants to come and live here to do so. The concept of open borders’ is a flawed one, she noted….
Jayell says
‘I am proud as a Briton and I am proud of my parents and of my British Indian background’.
Small problem there. There is strictly speaking no such thing as a ‘Briton’ these days since this term has historically been reserved for the ‘ancient Britons’ of pre-Roman times who were (I believe)mainly of Celtic extraction originating in northern France (the ‘Bretons’) and nowadays constitute the basis of the Welsh and what’s left of the Cornish nations (the Welsh and Cornish languages are related to the ‘Breton’ language, all of which bear no resemblance to English). ‘English’ people are mainly descended from the Germanic Anglo-Saxons and Jutes, with some input from Scandinavian invaders from the centuries around the time of the Norman Conquest. I don’t know much about the ancient Scottish and Irish tribes (including the Scots and the Picts) apart from the fact the the Romans took a look at them and decided to build Hadrian’s Wall. So quite why Ms. Patel is ascribing a non-existent identity to herself that (a) has no historical basis, (b) bears no relation to the current national boundaries on a map of the UK and (c) to which she, with her background in the Indian subcontinent, has no natural right, absolutely defeats me
Ecosse1314 says
The Scots were an Irish tribe. The picts are still a bit of a mystery
Dry Academy says
The Picts were a mixture of Old European(pre-Indo-European indigenous Western European) and Celtic elements. As time went on, they got more and more Celtic.
Ecosse1314 says
That is one theory maybe right but un provable

Jayell,
Whatever Ms. Patel’s background, she has spelt the policy of the government or the vision of her government of which is part of. This insanity of importing hordes of Islamic migrants without the vetting, or scrutiny of government should have not occurred in the first place. Muslims tend to be supremacists and are known to have herd mentality to execute any or all plans contrary to the govt of the day in the most brutal way, which any non-Muslim nation cannot not approve.
To me this is signalling / acknowledging of what has been blatantly flawed with Western nations. It is more than welcome.

When do you think the first Britons arrived and from where?
gravenimage says
General consensus is that humans first arrived in Britain around 800,000 BC. There is some evidence that they may have left the region several times due to especially harsh weather conditions, though.

My apologies that reply was to Dry academy and not to your good self
Infidel says
Another problem w/ her statement: she said ‘British-Indian’ instead of ‘Indian-British’. The former means British people w/ Indian citizenship, while the latter is what she falls under. In fact, in India, there is a small but distinguished ‘Anglo-Indian’ community comprising the descendants of the Brits who remained in India and adapted Indian citizenship, and intermarried w/ the locals, like she has
Another thing she could have done could have been to declare herself a Brit by marriage, since under Indian custom, women inherit the community of the men they marry. Although, from what I understand, she’s still a Hindu, although her husband and son aren’t. Nothing against that, although, back in the day, someone in her shoes would have just converted
All this is of course tangential to the point that she herself is a flawed Home Secretary. Sorta like a Kirsten Nielsen was here as US Homeland Secretary
Mykejohn says
Can anything good come out of this yet to implement radical plan? The night is far spent and I am not sure this action would bring the desired restoration the English are yearning for in the face of uncontrolled masssive Islamic invasion.
Andrew Blackadder says
Mykejohn: Not just the English mate, the other peoples of The United Kingdom are suffering from the polices of this Government, the Welsh and the Scots in particular.
Brando says
That what happens when Leftists rule your culture, though there are exceptions, like(in general) the CASE of ISRAEL:
In Israel they have the PEACE NOW Movement (LEFTIST ) which began in 1978, they are for a TWO STATE solution. But they are ignorant about Islam, that it is a religious problem.
A 2 state solution was proposed 5 X to the Palestinians and they Always Rejected:
1.In 1937: Peel Comission: 80% of the land for the Arabs.
2.In 1947: the UN Partition Plan
3.In 1967:Israel offered to let go of conquered land for peace
4.In 2000:Camp David plan, 94% of land taken in 1967 to be given to Arabs, including East Jersalem, rejected by Arafat.
5.In 2008: even more offered by Olmert of Israel, rejected
LABOR ZIONISM
The Peace Now movement is derived from Labor Zionism(socialist/leftist).Zionism is divided into 2 groups:that of Theodor Herzl (atheist)( author of “The Jewish State” and who held the First Zionist Congress in 1897)
and the socialist Labor Zionism( more popular in the first 60 years).
KIBBUTZ
It was the Labor Zionists who created the first kibbutz in Palestine in 1909.They were real leftists,in total 260 kibbutz were created and:
1.They COLLECTIVISTIC/ communist style.
2.All the MEANS of PRODUCTION were the property of all all. And PRIVATE entrepreneurs were Forbidden in the kibbutz( you couldn’t install a private shop to sell this or that)
NATIONALISTIC
1.In the Kibbutz you have to OBLIGATORILY only speak HEBREW.
2.Only JEWS were allowed to be members.
3.They were all for the Colonization of the land by Jewish settlers.
4.They were the created of a new type of Jew,they called the NEW JEW ( altruistic, proactive)
THE NEW MAN
The New Jew concept was copied from MARX’s concept of the NEW MAN of communism, who got the idea from
another Jew( ST PAUL,who invented the term)
NAZISM
According to Classical Liberal philosophers/economists VON MISES and HAYEK of the Austrian School: nazism was socialist. Mises said that of Marx’s 10 points to achieving full Communism in the COMMUNIST MANIFESTO(1848)….Nazism had implemented 8 of them( except pts 1 and 3)
Nazi simply means: National Socialist German Workers’ Party.
1.The parallels are: NATIONALISTIC ( pro-German),like the Labor Zionists were Nationalistic(pro-Jew, revival of Hebrew).
2.Both Socialist.
3.Officially both pro-labor.
4.In both the NEW MAN concept was changed: the NEW JEW and in the other it became the German/ARYAN.
Brando says
Typo error:
I meant:
“They were for the creation of a new type of Jew,they called the NEW JEW ( altruistic, proactive)”
I forgot to add that Labor Zionists and of course the Jews in the Kibbutzim were 100% SECULAR: Judaism and its rituals had No Place in the kibbutz. For that reason a few rabbis denounced them all.
gravenimage says
Joining a Kibbutz was *voluntary*, and members could leave at any time. So this is hardly full communism, which is notably imposed on the whole polity.
And I had a friend at college who spent a summer at a Kibbutz. She had studied Hebrew after school in high school in the US, but was *hardly* fluent. Most members also spoke at least some English.
But no–reviving Hebrew cannot really be compared with Naziism.
The morality of nationalism depends largely on the ethics of the nation in question. In the case of civilized places like America, Britain, and Israel, being patriotic is generally quite ethical; in the case of Nazi Germany, not so much…
There is nothing fascist about not wanting to see Britain destroyed as you seem to be implying.
Brando says
In addition: the CASE of the BUNDISTS ( Jewish political group ) ( founded in 1897)
They were, like the Nazis and Labor Zionists:
1.Socialist
2.A Labor party
3.Secular
4.NATIONALIST: they proclaimed YIDDISH as the National Language of the Jews ( opposed the revival of Hebrew and emigration to Palestine).
gravenimage says
Again, comparing Israel with Nazi Germany is just grotesque.

“My family were forced from Uganda…”
Did your family’s country of origin – India – refuse entry, Ms Patel? Did your family attempt to seek asylum in a neighbouring east African country, like Ethiopia or Kenya? Did they ever investigate the possibility of returning to Uganda? (Idi Amin has been gone for a quite a while now.)
Seems to me your “story” is not too different from many of the “stories” of the crowd currently attempting to enter the UK by dinghy or in the back of lorries, Ms Patel.
Not sure if YOU are the best person to be charged with stopping them.
Infidel says
Difference b/w her parents and the current migrants is that Britain wasn’t being bombarded by a big wave of immigration in the 60s and 70s, which is why they could absorb them. And to be fair to her – unlike the mohammedan parasites in the UK, her family has fully assimilated. She herself is married to a Brit (not another fellow immigrant of Indian origin or descent), and didn’t get honor-killed for it
That said, I agree w/ you: her performance as Home Secretary deserves an ‘A’ – as in Abysmal. In fact, Sajid Javed, who preceded her, was more fearless about being considered ‘islamophobic’ and should have stayed on that job. While she could have had another cabinet position
Crusades Were Right says
If I were facing expulsion from the country I inhabit, I would do one of the following:
* return to my (or my family’s) country of origin (if not my country of residence)
* go to a neighbouring country and claim asylum
* try to enter an English-speaking Western country (e.g. Canada, USA, Australia) and claim asylum (bearing in mind that I myself originate in such a country)
I would not just hop onto a plane and fly halfway across the world to a country with which I have no serious connection or cultural ties, based on nothing more than a perception that I’ll have a “better life” there than in any of the alternatives mentioned above.
Consider, for example:
“Hello. I’m a citizen of the Czech Republic, and have just been expelled from Germany, and I want to claim asylum here in Japan.”
Result: “RETURN TO SENDER”. Am I wrong?
Infidel says
If I were in the same situation, here are the things I’d do:
– Check out a neighboring country that speaks the same language that I do
– Check out other countries that speak the same language
If English was that language, then and only then would I consider moving to Western English speaking countries. If not, I’d do what I could to avoid it
I’m not aware what language her parents spoke at home – whether it was English or Gujarati. If it was the latter, only thing I can assume is that they picked Britain over India in the 60s b’cos India was a socialist country and not worth returning to (it was her grandparents who left India for Uganda: that’s the sort of loser country that India used to be then)
Anyway, it was her parents who chose to immigrate to UK: she herself was born in London. I’m not sure that she could manage it in India. I myself grew up in UK for my first 7 years before my parents returned w/ me to India, and language would be a nightmare, since India, contrary to what people tell you, is not an English speaking country. The people understand English, but that’s different from speaking

Is Priti Patel actually going to follow through on this?
Check Burry says
She may talk about it, but the International Laws on refugees, asylum etc most likely prevent her from doing much. The continuing arrivals, with her departments full assistance prove nothing is being done to end this. Deportations take years and end up staying.
Dawne says
“Now Patel is vowing to unveil sweeping immigration reforms” – trouble is we’ve heard it all before. Multiple times. God willing we will soon be through this Covid debacle and once that happens illegal immigration and immigration issues will once again come to the fore.
The reason this is such an issue for the UK is that we are a very small land mass with a very large population. Even if we did not have Muslim jihadists & leeches coming into the UK immigration would be a huge issue. I had great Polish/Italian neighbours in London, but they were taking jobs/buying homes & thereby pushing down wages/pushing up house prices, which greatly affected the prospects of all British young adults. All of our green spaces are being built on. We are being concreted over to oblige immigrants and the fat cats who benefit by the cheap labour.
Immigration of any sort not only places a HUGE pressure on housing but also school places, hospital beds, GP services, dentist services, traffic queues, packed public transport. This issue is not going to go away until the government actually does what it has promised the electorate it will do. If it doesn’t there will – again – be a reckoning at the polls.
Check Burry says
Reckoning at the polls, as much as I would like to vote for a real party who would, could stop this, exactly who would that party be. The UK has bounced around between 2 parties, choosing the lesser evil of the moment for 70 years and more.

Dawne,
Immigration also places a HUGE pressure on prisons, judicial systems and unheard of crimes.. Just joking

WOW! What a novel thought open borders may be a problem. It just goes to show that higher education won’t make you smart, our political leaders must have slept through the class where they explained that not every person or group loves you and wants to be just like “YOU”. Yes there are nationalities and racial groups out there that want what you have and will come and take it if you leave your front and back door open. I’ll bet these leaders don’t leave the keys to their luxury cars in them when they park them on the streets, but yet they open our borders to anyone. You would think locking your doors would be common sense.

Yes, but these “leaders” would like nothing better than for you to leave *your* new Camaro parked on the side of the street, engine running, driver side door open / top-down – complete with a full bottle of Allen’s Coffee Brandy and a bag of Cheetos.
All “bridled and saddled” for an illegal migrant…

Check Burry says
I have same thoughts too BA. I suspect we are at the mercy of some international Laws we signed up to in past before Islam started to smite us, and rubber boats were available, so who is financing those as they aint cheap, plus the charges to the illegals by the criminals who facilitate this invasion, which french navy & our border force are actively assisting, not just providing rescue should they get in trouble. Its years old now, nothing has been done to stop it, or return then to wherever.
