Despite police dispersing Palestinians in and around the Old City ahead of the Jerusalem Day March — which was first canceled, then rescheduled after Hamas warned about “provocations” — dozens of Palestinians still rioted in streets “close to the march’s route and threw stones at police officers, injuring two.” 33 Palestinians were injured and police arrested 17 Palestinians in East Jerusalem.
The IDF stated it was prepared for all scenarios, amid heightened tensions, not only because of the recent barrage of Hamas rockets which prompted Operation Guardian of the Walls, but also in light of the advent of a new government, which has yet to be tested by Israel’s worst foes, backed by Iran, and which certainly will be.
“IDF strikes Gaza Strip after incendiary balloon fires,” by Tzvi Joffre and Zachary Keyser, Jerusalem Post, June 16, 2021:
The IDF struck a number of military sites belonging to Hamas in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday night in response to 20 fires sparked by incendiary balloons earlier in the day.
“The IDF is prepared for all scenarios, including the resumption of hostilities, in the face of continued terrorist acts from the Gaza Strip,” said the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit in a statement.Meanwhile, dozens of Palestinians clashed with the IDF along the Gaza border on Tuesday, as tensions rose surrounding a flag march through the Old City of Jerusalem.
During the clashes, a Palestinian within a small group of instigators was shot in the leg and was taken away from the scene in light condition, according to Palestinian media. Israeli forces fired tear gas and rubber bullets at rioters in order to disperse them.
Video from southern Israel showed large amounts of smoke in the border area due to the riots. The riots continued into the night as the Night Confusion Units in Gaza returned to operation, launching explosives and burning tires. One Palestinian was shot by the IDF during the riots on Tuesday evening.
A number of fires broke out in southern Israel on Tuesday, with at least 20 fires sparked by incendiary balloons launched from Gaza. Earlier in the day, Palestinian media published photos of terrorists preparing such balloons to launch towards Israel. At least one explosive balloon was reported over southern Israel, with residents reporting that they saw and heard the balloon explode in the air, according to Israeli media.
Three Gazans were arrested by the IDF after they crossed the Gaza border fence into Israel, according to Palestinian reports.
As part of security preparations in light of the flag march, the paths of flights to and from Ben-Gurion Airport were diverted to leave and arrive from the North on Tuesday…..

Wonder whether the differences b/w the different factions of the new Israeli government over this – the first issue they have been confronted w/ – will bring it down?
b.a. freeman says
from what i understand, naftali bennett, the new prime minister is to the *right* of netanyahu, but put together a coalition of center and left by “sharing” the PM position with a leftist, which he had earlier pledged in a televised document signing not to do. with any luck, he’ll continue to work with netanyahu’s coalition to keep israel safe, but such a time would be followed by rule by the left. good luck with that, israel.

My point is that since this coalition has a majority of ONE, anyone can topple it if it goes out of line. The trump card that Bennett has is that he can tell his Leftist and Arab coalition members that if they do anything to topple his government, it’ll bring back Bibi, and that could restrain them for a while. Another thing he can do is that in the event of his allies trying to force concessions to the Palis, he can offer Likud a deal where his party joins w/ them, but w/ a condition that either Bennett is prime minister, or someone other than Bibi from Likud is prime minister. If he can do that, Israel can get both a stable and sane government

I admire Bibi a great deal, but I wish this new government well. I don’t want to see it weakened by Jihad. And I hope we can see leaders besides Netanyahu protect Israeli citizens.
Infidel says
I used to be a fan of him in the 90s and 00s, but after all the corruption scandals that have dogged him, I do think it’s time that Likud finds someone new. And a lot of the religious parties do have more uncompromising stances vis a vis the Palis, so it’s not like he’s the only one to stand up to them. Just that those leaders aren’t as articulate in English as he is, which is their major shortcoming when it comes to representing their case to us
