Spent many pleasant afternoons and evenings at that stadium.
AC Transit bus stop–right at my house–to the Haywad Bart station and on to the Colesium stop. Watch the game. Return.
Probably couldn’t afford a ticket, a beer, and a hot dog for the two of us today, but the memories are fond.
Pssst. Still have the ball cap.

Me too, PRCS.
Unlike the Giants, the A’s have remained pretty affordable–you can get crummy upper deck seats for as little as $15–maybe less. You can get an inexpensive beer for 8 bucks, and a plain hot dog sets you back just $5.75. That is likely coming to an end soon, though–the A’s either get their shiny new stadium down by the waterfront, or they pull up stakes and move, probably to Vegas.
You used to be able to see A’s memorabilia on the shelves of his study in videos.

PRCS,
If all religions are man made, how come some have:
whatever history written in the holy book that is perfect?
Whatever geography written in the holy book that is perfect?
Whatever science written in the holy book that is perfect?
Whatever prophecy written in the holy book that is fulfilled?
How come about the 40 who came “together” for about 1500 years (from kings to fishermen) to cobble together a perfectly harmonious book?
You seem never to have sought God or research anything on God. Quiet grotesque when commenting about religions.

What is the latest news on those qur’ans from Sana’a?
Could it be that uthman really collected it, but ‘they’ just don’t read it (some sort of personal reading by the normal, base adherents probably)?
BTW, I’ve ordered your book, waiting for it to arrive & read it.
Even modern Islamic scholars don’t necessarily accept the standard version of the compilation in Bukhari. The S. Asian scholar Abdul Hamid Farahi & his student Smin Ahsan Islahi examined the isnads & found them wanting. The most they are prepared to grant is that for various reasons, including political expediency, Uthman may have done something. Of course they believe in an early Quran (as do I). Dr Shezad Saleem, director of the Al Mawrid Institute in Hyderabad has published The History of the Quran (there’s a short & a long scholarly version on Kindle) which suggests many of the standard Islamic narratives aren’t accurate (pointing out that records say only 4 people memorised the whole Quran the Battle of Yamama story is therefore spurious)-but he still believes in mass transmission, which is very unlikely. Donner, Bailey, Sinai & others have shown that the Quran must have been passed on in a written version-because of the textual errors & emendations. If there was an oral tradition, it was too weak to control the text.
Whatever the true origen is the actual version we have was clearly amended for political reasons in 1924.
The problem with the authenticity of any version is that the original is lost.
All we have is the Bags one, and that for obvious reasons has too many “holes” as the controversial episode after the now comical episode prompted by the impertinent Mimi Hijab, who in one swift stroke managed to destroy the carefully crafted career of the once respected Yasser Qhadi. Who now has been rejected by the lesser apologists for having committed the cardinal sin of saying that “there are ‘holes’ in the standard narrative.” Oops!
And many contemporary Islamic authorities called him a liar.

Alfredo, you have made the claim that the Qur’an was completely changed in 1924–but this does not hold. You *do* realize that we have books–and reprints of books–that predate 1924?
Then, the Egyptian Hafs Qur’an was not held to be a new Qur’an at all–far from it. It refers to Hafs, supposedly the first Muslim to memorize the Qur’an–and so it is supposed to be the “original” Qur’an. (whether that is the case or not–probably not–is a different matter). And this edition, while very popular, it is not accepted everywhere. For instance, no North African nation save Egypt uses this version.
This is important to show that it has hardly been the case–as pious Muslims claim–that the Qur’an has never changed.
On the other hand, the implication that the Qur’an has changed sustantively–that is, that it has only been violent for less than a hundred years–is hardly the case.
