Sergey Ivaneyev, a retired lieutenant colonel who advises Russia’s Federal Agency for Nationality Affairs, says that Muslim draftees in the Russian military are increasingly refusing to obey orders on religious grounds, actions that compromise unit cohesion and military effectiveness. He goes on to say “that such unhealthy tendencies are increasingly in evidence in the Russian armed forces and urges that commanders and the government as a whole take steps to stem such actions before they spread still further.”
The problem has been ongoing. Years ago, in 2014:
Following this unsuccessful attempt to use Chechens in the Russian army, Moscow stopped drafting this nationality. The Chechens’ behavior ultimately resulted in the Russian army loosening its rules regarding Muslim conscripts during Muslim holidays. On major Islamic holidays, collective prayers were allowed and even the North Caucasians’ daily prayers were de facto permitted. Thus, the Chechens serving in the Russian military in 2001 set new norms regarding the treatment of soldiers who practice Islam in the Russian army.
Of course, concessions were still not enough. While the West has considerable differences with Russia, the central theme is that Islam is consistent everywhere you go. Ivaneyev sums up that theme….
“supports of the idea of the global Islamic world by means of social networks and personal contacts are seeking to intensify the religious and nationalistic feelings of Muslims in Russia and to galvanize them with the idea of ‘the holiness’ of the Muslim faith.”
This is the essence of the Muslim ummah. It is described by Mustafa Mashhur, who lead the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt from 1996-2002:
The Islamic ummah [the supranational community of Muslims] can regain its power and be liberated and assume its rightful position which was intended by Allah, as the most exalted nation among men, as the leaders of humanity.
No matter what the country, “religious grounds” motivates every aspect of life for many mainstream Muslims. The world is divided into two: dar al harb (house of war, that is, infidel nations) and dar al Islam (the house of Islam, or the believing nations). Sharia law is immutable in normative Islam and no infidel law or order inconsistent with Islam can override it. Anything contrary will be consistently eroded, with a goal of defeat. It does not matter how long it takes.
Ironically, the largest Islamic publishing house in Russia is called “Ummah,” and three months ago, the director of “ummah,” Aslambek Ezhayev, was arrested in Russia on suspicion of financing the Islamic State.
“Muslim Draftees in Russian Military Increasingly Disobeying Orders on Religious Grounds, Colonel Says,” by Paul Goble, Window on Eurasia, August 20, 2021:
August 17 – Sergey Ivaneyev, a retired lieutenant colonel who advises Russia’s Federal Agency for Nationality Affairs, says that Muslim draftees in the Russian military are increasingly refusing to obey orders on religious grounds, action that compromise unit cohesion and military effectiveness.
Writing in this week’s NG-Religii, the member of that agency’s public advisory council, he says that such “unhealthy tendencies” are increasingly in evidence in the Russian armed forces and urges that commanders and the government as a whole take steps to stem such actions before they spread still further (ng.ru/ng_religii/2021-08-17/10_513_army.html).
According to Ivaneyev, “supports of the idea of the global Islamic world by means of social networks and personal contacts are seeking to intensify the religious and nationalistic feelings of Muslims in Russia and to galvanize them with the idea of ‘the holiness’ of the Muslim faith.”
Unfortunately, he continues, mid-grade and senior officers can think of nothing better to offer than to talk about tolerance, an approach that fails to address the problem and reflects their fundamental ignorance of the emerging Islamist threat within the ranks they command. And they do little to promote the kind of secular attitudes on which a multinational army must rest.
Unfortunately too, the military advisor says, “in the North Caucasus as in the country as a whole has evolved a spiritual and moral atmosphere when the propaganda of religious convictions is considered the norm and the promotion of secular, scientific and materialist values is treated as a deviation.”
As a result, “it has become common for draftees from the North Caucasus to disobey the orders of commanders and insist on national customs which violate military rules, and refuse to be examined” by Russian doctors. Many of them now “refuse to shave because they consider themselves ‘true Muslims.’”….

Thank the globalists for this. The ‘stans’ are independent because of the demise of the USSR. Maybe Russia itself should be broken up and the Muslims given their own section and then be forever barred from entering the dar-al-harb.
Infidel says
No, muslims don’t belong in Russia. The -stans are independent b’cos ethnically, they are different from Russians, but the reason they were conquered in the first place was that in the 18th century, they were raiding the Russian frontiers and taking Russians captive as slaves. So the Romanovs retaliated w/ a war that saw the end of the khanates of Buqhara and Xeva, and Turkistan becoming a new Russian province
Whereas the muslim areas of Russia are just some small enclaves, such as Chechnya and Tatarstan, that don’t merit becoming independent countries
What Russia can do is expel all its muslims to Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, 2 oil rich neighbors, just like in WWII, they expelled all Crimean Tatars to Uzbekistan. Oh, and just like they annexed Crimea, they ought to invade and occupy the still heavily Russian Kazakh Steppes, which were never a part of Turkic empires, and were just gifted to Kazakhstan by the Soviet Communists
gravenimage says
PMK, I blame globalists for a lot of things, but Russia allowing this is on Russia. Putin has no problem resisting other global trends, but he is embracing this.
As for breaking Russia up further and giving chunks of her land to Muslims, this will only further embolden them. Ceding land to Muslims seldom protects Infidels–it just makes them demand more.

Sadly, Putin has been enabling Islam for some time–especially touting it as a bulwark against the “decadent” west.

Demonstrating yet again what a burden to all mankind Islam truly is. A world without Islam would still have many problems but it would nonetheless be a far better world. So utterly sick of Islam.
Besides, there is no Allah, there may have not been a Mo either (in a way makes no difference because the character of Mo which is adulated by Buttlims itself speaks volumes) and the Koran is stupid, repetitive, boring and disgusting. Islam is a loser all around and every Muslim is a loser, only the degree functions as a variable.
Jayeĺl says
Musfafa Mashhur’s statement concerning the islamic ummah shows quite clearly that muslims cannot be accepted as fellow citizens in any country, democratic or otherwise, unless a country’s leaders defer to the self-proclaimed ultimate authority of the islamic ‘deiity’ – i.e., the fraudulent projection of thc bloated; arrogant muslim ego. Any such capiulation would be an outrageous dereliction of duty to the citizens of any nation. And accepting the services of specimens of himanity who demonstrate their total unduitability to serve anyone apart from themselves by voicing such utterly ridiculous sentiments as per Mashhur’s fatuous statement is equally completely unacceptable. It should be made clear to all muslims that eihther they show proper respect for those whose hospitality they presume some right to share, or they remove themselves to some area where they can practise their deusions of suoeriority entirely by themselves without adversely sffecting the safety and well-being of othrrs.
Infidel says
That’s fine: Russia can first kick them out of their military, and then deport them to Turkmenistan, and not look back. Like I suggested above, both Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan are oil rich, and these jihadists can work in their oil industry

Infidel, Putin has been increasingly appeasing Islam, building mega-Mosques in Moscow and winking at allowing Shari’ah law in Chechnya on Russian soil. I don’t see any will there to do what you suggest.
God knows I wish I did.
Keys says
+1, gi.
I do not understand what Putin hopes to gain by appeasing Islam. I just don’t get it. Maybe he’s being getting rich doing so.
Wellington says
Putin may be getting rich (actually already is and terribly corrupt across the board) but, more important, Putin has demonstrated a tendency again and again to be tactically clever but strategically ignorant. Bodes ill for Russia long term.
gravenimage says
Thanks for the +1, Keys.
I think that Putin–foolishly–hates the civilized west far more than he does Islam–and he either does not understand the threat of Islam or else believes that he can manage it. Good luck with that.
I remember Russian troll “Christianblood” who posted here for years–he always said that Islam was not really a threat to Russia and that Russian Muslims were all actually patriotic Russians, and the only threat to Russia was democracy and gay parades. He ignored Jihad terror attacks there, pretending that mentioning them was somehow anti-Russian.
gravenimage says
Grimly true, Wellington–I would hate to see an Islamized Russia–but this is happening more and more. I feel for the Russian people.

Russia: Muslim draftees in the military increasingly refuse to obey orders on religious grounds

And what other orders will these Muslims refuse to obey in future?
I have expressed a growing concern over the disturbing Islamofiction of Russia’s military before.

i had had hopes that russia would, like the PRC, handle islam with open eyes; it looks like mr. putin is as blind as the nominal leftists here in north amrikistan. in a century or so, russia will be islamic, and the PRC will be free of muslims.

We had something like that, the Moslem would stand outside the Ministry of Defence in London with his little plackard wanting to dictate UK foreign policy.
Moslems may not be always considered as British even with British uniform, it is that bad.
OLD GUY says
Yep bring these muslim/islamic people into America and they will fight to protect America, NOT.
They will happily live off of our social systems, and do their best to gain political control and install sharia law in America if WE give them the chance. Their religious islamic ideology will always lead them to the domination of the world by ISLAM. If you don’t realize this you are risking your families future, right here in the land of the free.
