My latest in PJ Media:
Someone still has to speak for what used to be known as the “free world,” and if anything has been made clear over the last few days, it’s that this spokesman is not going to be Old Joe Biden. And so even as the British Parliament condemned Old Joe for his catastrophic mishandling of the Afghanistan withdrawal, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has stepped up and explained what the Taliban must do in order to gain legitimacy in the eyes of the global establishment: respect “internationally agreed standards on human rights and inclusivity.”
In other words, all the Taliban have to do is stop being what they are and become something else altogether, something they clearly despise and hold in contempt. Does Johnson, or anyone, really think this has any chance of happening?
Johnson wasn’t the first to issue this ridiculous demand. Biden State Department wonk Ned Price said it first on Monday, citing a UN statement that called for “an immediate cessation of all hostilities and the establishment, through inclusive negotiations, of a new government that is united, inclusive and representative – including with the full, equal and meaningful participation of women.” Price even held out the possibility of recognition of the Taliban government by the United States if the Taliban regime “upholds rights, doesn’t harbor terrorists, and protects the rights of women and girls.”
The Taliban responded to that on Tuesday by insisting that it would indeed respect the rights of women and girls, “within the limits of Islam,” and then proceeded to demonstrate exactly how limiting those limits really were by executing a woman for the crime of not wearing a burqa. No one, not even Ned Price, should have expected anything else. But his statement was yet another in a seemingly endless series of demonstrations of the State Department’s abject idiocy and ethnocentrism. Price and his colleagues have never shown that they have any idea that the Taliban operate on a value system entirely different from that of the secular West. Ned Price and his ilk likely can’t even conceive of that as a possibility.
Also on Tuesday, in a phone call with Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, who knows very well what the Taliban think of women and likely, as another devout Muslim, shares many of the same views, Boris Johnson said that “any legitimacy of any future Taliban government will be subject to them upholding internationally agreed standards on human rights and inclusivity.”
It is ridiculous to call upon the Taliban, which is the very embodiment of the rejection of the idea of secular, liberal democracy, to turn around and become a secular, liberal democracy. And why do Price and Johnson think that the Taliban will pay attention to anything they say, anyway? Do Ned and Boris really have any expectation whatsoever that the Taliban are so desperate for international approval that they will hear their words and suddenly decide to pack their government with women, men who think they’re women, and other people that they’d ordinarily just throw off the top of a tall building?
There is more. Read the rest here.

Western Civilization is not the problem. Indeed, it is the best solution, with all its faults, for more of man’s problems than any other “solution” proffered in man’s history by other civilizations or societies.
The “problem” in this age of absurdity in which we live is PRECISELY related to how much the West’s “best” is discarded in the name of lesser options, often times courtesy of the silly people now leading the West. And damn, these silly people like Biden, his handlers, Johnson, Macron, Merkel, whoever the Hell is running the failing Swedish estate, et al. are foolish and destructive and then some.
Four ways to go for mankind: 1) The Western ideal at its best (this would entail comprehending that with liberty must come common sense, a proper self-restraint {e.g., no more Madonna-types feigning masturbation on a stage}, and a decent and viable legal system); 2) the Islamic model, which is a recipe for the closing of the mind and many other terrible things like no true Golden Rule for all and a farce of farces respecting women’s rights; 3) the standard authoritarian model as exhibited by the present regimes in China and Russia and which is a final route to Nowheresville for mankind (so sick of Russia and China never learning the most important lessons about the human condition, contra, for example, the Founding Fathers of America who, in just one generation, easily tower above all Russian and Chinese leaders over the entirety of the ages); and 4) the idiotic modern Western Leftist model which has been around in full flower for a half century or more and now is at its “peak” (hopefully so) and is rooted in one error after another and doesn’t even have the “guts” that the Islamic model or the “perverse depth” the authoritarian models have, so shallow, cowardly and foolish is it.
There it its. Only one of the four will prove a benefit to mankind. The other three are avenues to descent of one kind or another.
Hmmm. One out of four. That’s a 25% chance. Considering ordinary lottery odds of millions to one, I’m leaning optimistic right now. Besides, what other choice does mankind have in our era?
Westman says
A magnificent treatise of the principles that elevate and those that degrade human society, Wellington.
Once-great societies were disolved more by their own behavior than by external enemies, brought to weakness by a short-sighted hedonism that led to “diversity” without cohesion.
Ultimately the survival of a society appears to depend on voluntarily action to protect their fellow citizens and the adherence to a solid productivity ethic. Marxist behavior appears to be the natural dead end of a society that has lost cohesion and wants its troubles and poverty solved by government.
There seems to be little difference between Marxism and Islam when it comes to the curtailing of human rights and general incompetence. Following the “books” of Marx, Mao, or Muhammad has never brought humanity to its finest hour.
You are so right that the framers of the US Constitution tower above all other creators of nations, offering the highest opportunity for all, “If we can keep it”. Hedonists declare it to be old fashioned, in need of change, because it doesn’t fit their downward spiral.

Excellent analysis, Wellington, although you are well aware that Uncle Kepha sees Christ as the key to Western civilization.
I can’t say much about Russia, but here’s the rub with China:
In the 1930’s, the Chinese author Lao She wrote a sci-fi novel “Cat Country” (猫城记)。It describes a Chinese astronaut dtranded on Mars, where he is found by a comumunity of intelligent cats who are marked by laziness, quarrelsomeness, envy, pride, an obsession with the ideology of “Everybody-share-ov-ism”, and other vices in the face of a invasion of dwarves (you probably get the historical reference). The cat people’s leader is called “the Lord of Ten Thousand Brawls”. In the end, the dwarves massacre the cat people, and put the last two cat men in a cage to watch them fight to the death. However, the Chinese astronaut is ultimately rescued by a French expedition and returns to earth.
On top of that, China’s five millennia of history exhibit not a single peaceful change from one dynasty to another. Having watched the Taiwan situation closely, I am convinced that the Chinese leadership finds it utterly incomprehensible how the USA could become a great power without settling the hash of those reactionary, counter-revolutionary running dogs of English imperialism north of the Great Lakes. Had 2015 marked by joint US, British, and Canadian hoopla over two centuries of peaceable interrelations and cooperation, official China would have considered the “Anglo-Saxons” (including those of us who are such only by osmosis) the most insane and illogical people on the face of the planet. China is the one reasonably advanced country where I have heard a government minion praise Hitler. The official Chinese mindset is thoroughly centralizing, imperial, and committed to force. I further doubt that there is a single civil or military official of the PRC who even considers that what his country is facing in Sharki Turkistan is an analogy of France in Algeria.
As for Islam, it is the world’s second most degenerative system ever. Only Marxism-Leninism beats it in this regard.

She says some smart and prescient things here, writing soon after 9/11:
“Islamism is the new bolshevism”
“….The first phase of that strategy had to be a military assault on the enemy in Afghanistan, a phase that is now approaching its end. I believe that while the new interim government there deserves support, the United States is right not to allow itself to become bogged down with ambitious nation-building in that treacherous territory. Some would disagree, arguing that the lesson of the present crisis is that neglect of failed states causes terrorism. But this is trite. It implies a level of global interventionism that almost everyone recognises is quite impractical.”

BoJo doesn’t “bloody” get how the whole program of the Taliban is rejection of “inclusivity”. Unfortunately, there are probably no more than two or three people in the State Department and foreign offices of our allies who understand that Islam is a nasty business. We are all so hung up on the utterly false narrative that Islam is all about “peace and tolerance” that we can’t see two of our own fingers held up in front of our own faces.
I am personally fed up with our political class, which gets us into these unwinnable situations, does its d–nedest (and you know I don’t use that word lightly) to disrupt the lives of law-abiding citizens while massively importing other regionsl social problems, and bows to those who hate us for what we are.

Biden stumbling around in the White House, this joker in the UK, and Trudeau the corrupt, empty suit racist in Canada. All three still wilfully ignorant about Islam after all these years. These are dark days for the English speaking triangle. Perhaps the darkest ever.
Wellington says
Yes, perhaps even darker than the Spring of 1940. At least back then, as dark as things were, there were people who realized where right and wrong lay.
Alas, no longer. And once you lose the distinction between right and wrong, even hope becomes ephemeral and right prevailing thereafter borders on the non-existent.

Wellington,
The Spring of 1940 was a very dark time indeed. But, at the time, at least most people in the West could distinguish good from evil.
Today’s Leftists, mostly due to “higher” education brainwashing, cannot make this same distinction. And they refuse to believe that they are the biggest part of the problem.
Hopefully, there are still enough Western conservatives with the courage to turn things around…

Actually, through, all through the 1930s Fascism was considered “modern” by many people, and those who warned against it like Churchill were often excoriated as “hysterical” or even as “war mongers”. It actually took the west quite some time to wake up to the Fascist threat.

The Democrats do not respect inclusivity toward the Republicans and conservatives, why would the Taliban? This is just nonsense. Who ever believed the Taliban would do other than they are doing. Just the way the Taliban destroys any schools or buildings or facilities the US built in villages.

Well, it aligns very well with their “this has nothing to do with Islam” and “Islam is the religion of peace” delusions. On a positive note the Taliban have forced the West to seriously confront the question of Islam again as we did on 9/11. It gives us a chance to expose the lies and hypocrisy, cowardice and treason of the Left and the elites.
While as a rule the media largely stayed silent about the atrocities committed by Muslims on a daily basis, but this story is too huge to ignore. Perhaps in time it will fizzle out and lead to nothing, until the next big event involving Muslims.
However this is a chance for ordinary western folks to see and learn how brutal, barbaric and backwards Islam is best represented by the Taliban who are it’s most strict adherents. Even Muslims are terrified of the Taliban because they know they’re not following all the prophet’s demands.
At least in Europe there are some calls like from Geert Wilders to close the door to Muslim immigration and refugees. Wilders was quick and smart to capitalize on the crisis in Afghanistan. He also declared that other Islamic terrorists groups like ISIS exist in his country the Netherlands and they need to be brought to justice. So there is some good coming out of this however minimal.
Great monologue by Ben Shapiro:

PMK says
I don’t see the West questioning Islam. All they focus on is the Taliban. They seem to separate Islam and the Taliban. One congressman I saw last night was saying “they marry six-year-old girls” and he was referring to the Taliban, not to all Muslim men. The Taliban might be the worst of the worst, but the problem isn’t the Taliban. It’s Islam itself.
Since the Iranian Revolution in 1979 our elites have tried to define ‘radicals’ and say everybody else is just fine. First, the Sunnis were the mainstream and Shia were the radicals. Then when we were attacked by Sunnis, it was oh, they’re just an offshoot. Don’t worry about Islam.
No one in power in the West will ever confront Muslims and the tenets of the Islamic faith. They have too much money and power at stake to ever tell the truth about Islam.
Ben Shapiro will be just another lonely voice.

Boris Johnson, along with many western leaders, seems to know absolutely nothing about islam’s nature. Inclusivity is not part of Islam. From what I hear, Johnson, on climate change, seems to be more like a left wing greenie than a Conservative Prime Minister. i don’t know if this is true or not, but I often hear conservative commentators out here in Australia, on Sky News TV programs, who are very disappointed with the way Johnson has turned out, say that they believe that, maybe, his present wife is influencing him to become more left wing. I don’t know anything about her, but maybe she is a left winger and she does influence his view of things. Anyway, he is utterly clueless when it comes to islam, that is for sure. I can’t believe how uninformed some of these leaders are when it comes to islam. For the leaders of countries, there is no excuse for such ignorance on such an important issue.

Thanks for your comment, Giacomo. Here in Australia, there definitely seem to be quite a few politicians who are in the Federal Liberal Government (our conservatives, as opposed to the Labor party) who are very left wing. They almost seem like infiltrators, and people who are in the wrong party. There are some conservatives, but also quite a few of these infiltrators. It is the same among the Liberal parties in the various states. In fact, we had a Prime Minister, an obnoxious back stabber if ever there was one, Malcolm Turnbull, who originally tried to join the Labor Party, was rejected, then joined the LIberals somehow and did very well. He was the sort of maggot who didn’t care as long as his career prospered. Becoming Prime Minister was all that mattered for this egomaniac. He was definitely in the wrong party.
