Some good news for a change.
To those Muslims who follow strict Sharia law, child marriage is permissible, as per Muhammad’s example, delineated in the Hadith:
“The Prophet (peace be upon him) married her when she was six years old and he consummated his marriage when she was nine years old.” (al-Bukhari 67:70)
Egypt decided to act to curb the practice of child marriage last year when it amended its laws to criminalize it. That included “setting a minimum age and extending penalties for child marriage to include fathers or other male guardians.” 18 became the minimum age to marry.
“Parents of newly engaged 11-year-old bride, 12-year-old groom arrested in Egypt,” by Tala Michel Issa, Al Arabiya English, September 21, 2021:
Security forces in Egypt’s Giza have arrested the parents of an 11-year-old bride-to-be and 12-year-old groom-to-be an hour after announcing their engagement in the village of Umm Khenan in the city of Hawamdiya, Al Arabiya reported on Sunday.
The engagement party for the two children took place in the village, just 30 kilometers from Cairo, on Friday.
The celebration held by the two families was cut short after the jewelry shop that the newlywed’s parents bought gold from posted photos on Facebook.
This led to security forces tracking down the details of the event. They then found the parents, arrested them and referred them to prosecution for investigation, according to Egypt’s National Council for Childhood and Motherhood…..

Ah! How unfortunate. They look like such a nice couple.

Yeah, it’s not like she was being made to marry some fifty-something year old

I’m christian and strictly against child marriage , I don’t think at that age a human beeing is capable of an emotional and romantical envolvement with an other human beeing . I also don’t think that a 13 or 14 year old is ready mentally or emotionally to perform the role of a parent no matter how smart and developed and mature they may be . Having said that , I don’t understand why nature has given us humans the ability of child baring around that particular age . Once puberty sets , that’s it . And puberty sets in for both gender around 13 years , more or less .

“ability of child baring ”
The “ability” to bear a child does not mean “maturity of ability” to bear a child.
Immature seeds may germinate, but the plant produced will not grow to maturity.
The little girls may have the “ability” to get pregnant, but they don’t have the maturity to successfully bear children without much difficulty.
One other thing: “Nature” has been messed with, “fooled” if you will by the processes greedy people have introduced by way of products, especially food.
Bovine, swine, fowl, sheep…all get hormones to make them grow faster, develop faster, and when people eat these, it affects their growth.
In the recent news, it was reported that almost all of the chicken sold in the U.S. now has “white stripe disease.” This makes the muscle fiber extremely tough. And the *cause*….hormones to make the chickens *mature* earlier, faster, so they can make more money by the chicken farmer producing more and selling more.
In the Land of Israel, back when Jesus was walking about preaching the good news, the adult age of a man was 30 years.
Mankind has lowered that age by laws and tech and hormones until children are engaging in things which should be left to those of a mature mind as well as a body with “ability” to do thus.

Actually, very few 11-year-old girls are capable of becoming pregnant and carrying a child to term–many have not even begun to menstruate that early.

Just so glad Egypt is integrating the realities of modern life into its social constructs and contracts.
I would no more want a witch doctor attending to my health issues than I’d want to see children married off in arranged marriages.

At least Egyptian authorities did in this particular case. Child marriage is still rife there.
Daniel Triplett says
It wasn’t uncommon in times past, especially in rural areas and impoverished eras. 100 years ago my paternal grandmother (15) and grandfather (17) were married in rural Oklahoma. They were strong Protestant Christians, had 6 children together, and remained happily married for 60 years until her death. They were uneducated and lived modestly, but they were happy and raised a strong loving family. I respected and loved them both dearly, and always lived within 5 miles of them in Western US.
Age 15 seems ridiculously young to be married in today’s American culture. And age 6 or 9 is criminally obscene for any child to be married in any era or culture. What really disgusts me is not so much two teens marrying each other, but old creepy Muslim pedophiles emulating their prophet “The Perfect Man” marrying young teen girls.
somehistory says
My mother was married off to a man her parents thought had money to take care of her when she was a teenager.
One of the reasons things were as you stated, 100 years ago, people did not live as long as they do now, so people married earlier and had children sooner. If both are teenagers, near in age, they are not going to either one be as it is when it’s a filthy old creep and a child.
I too, find the most disgust at the old scum having the children to rape as often as they wish and call it ‘marriage.’
Children this age just do not have the sense or thinking ability that will come with time lived. They can afford to wait a few years, at least.

I agree, the whole concept is creepy and inacceptable in thi9s day and age.

:Within the hour. Fantastic. These children are being protected. We can all hope that the friends and relatives of the parents who were arrested might learn a lesson.
Too bad this was not done in afghanistan 20 years ago and made to stick. Children are exploited all over the world by immoral, lusty and greedy adults who take advantage, sell, buy, abuse, rape and murder them.

Egypt: Police arrest parents of 11- and 12-year-old after engagement announcement
……………..
This is surprising–not marrying off an 11-year-old girl, but not marrying her to some middle-aged pedophile. Also surprising to see Islamic authorities actually make arrests in such a case–good for Egypt.
Egypt has a very high incident of child marriages–they are one of the worst in the world.

Very high rate of FGM as well, I hear. Now Egypt needs to do what our politically correct politicians are too scared to do — Have Muslim girls routinely examined by female medics
for evidence of it.
gravenimage says
Yes–while FGM is now technically illegal in Egypt, rates are still as high as 87% there–but this is down from 95%, so some slight progress.
There are at least sporadic prosecution of such cases there now:

This is why more Muslim immigration and more rights for Muslims and Islam are a mistake. These followers of an ideology should be living in countries where such things are accepted practice. They should not force other countries to accept their practices.
