The U.S. really didn’t try to change Afghan culture. It oversaw the adoption of a constitution that enshrined Islamic law as the highest law of the land. That ensured that women would be subjugated and forced to wear hijab even in the areas of Afghanistan under the national government’s control.
“Taliban spokesperson warns US not to interfere with their culture, treatment of women,” by Greg Norman, Andrew Murray, and Matt Wall, Fox News, September 3, 2021:
A Taliban spokesperson insisted to Fox News on Friday that “there will be no issue about women’s rights” following the militant group’s takeover of Afghanistan, despite widespread international concerns.
A Taliban spokesperson insisted to Fox News on Friday that “there will be no issue about women’s rights” following the militant group’s takeover of Afghanistan, despite widespread international concerns.
But Suhail Shaheen also said he opposes Western views that “women should have an education without [a] hijab.”
“That is a change of culture,” he said. “Our culture… they can receive education with hijab. They can work with hijab.”
When asked about future relations with the U.S., Shaheen said, “We should be focusing how can we work together in a positive and constructive way which is in the best of interest of both sides.”
“There will be no issue about the women’s rights. No problem about their education, their work,” he added. “But we should not be after changing each other’s culture as we are not intending to change your culture, you should not be changing our culture.”…

Yes you are intending to change our culture , that’s why all western countries are inundated by muslims migrants under the pretex of fleeing war while in reality it’s all about hijrah .
mortimer says
Muslims leave their Berzerkistans because there is stifling restriction, favoritism, nepotism and massive corruption. They haven’t the foggiest notion that all these things come directly out of the restriction of freedom. Where there is no freedom of expression, a ruling class takes charge to restrict the rights of the little people. Islam has virtually no freedom of expression. Everyone in Islamic societies lives in continuous fear of being denounced.
Muslims carry to Western societies the idea in their minds that Islam is perfect, even though, deep down, they know that Islam always creates dysfunctional countries that deny personal freedom and restrict personal initiative.

Mortimer, many Muslims come to the West specifically in order to spread the horrors of Islam here. This is the Hijirah–which I know you are familiar with.

And of course the 12-year-old child brides raped by their first cousin husbands with won’t be forced to have babies because that would be inhumane.
mortimer says
‘Their culture’ … of cousin marriage is DANGEROUS. In a study of inbreeding in Afghanistan, first cousin marriages (27.8%) were the most common type of consanguineous marriages, followed by double first cousin (6.9%), second cousin (5.8%), beyond second cousin (3.9%) and first cousin once removed (1.8%).
Afghan hospitals are full of children with illnesses resulting from inbreeding.
Although full national statistics on the prevalence of marriage between first cousins are unavailable, anecdotal evidence from health workers, government officials and Afghan families suggests a widespread, deeply ingrained practice.
“There is a saying in our country that a marriage between cousins is the most righteous because the engagement was made in heaven,” said M. Marouf Sameh, chief of obstetrics and gynecology at Kabul’s Rabia Balkhi Women’s Hospital.
First-cousin marriages are prohibited in two dozen states in America — including Washington state.
Their ‘culture’ causes untold suffering to children who grow up with these illnesses and suffer with them for all their short lives.

revereridesagain, banning child marriage is *not* inhuman. 12-year-old children should not be raped.

“Culture?” What culture?
Infidel says
Precisely! First of all, this is not a real country (any more than Iraq is), and it does not have a distinctive culture. In history, various parts of it were always part of empires belonging to neighboring countries – India, Persia, Turkistan, Iran… (listing Persia and Iran separately to segregate Zoroastrian Persia and Muslim Iran). Religion too – unless one considers Zoroastrianism a native religion since Zarathustra was a native of Balkh (then a part of the Median empire), there is no native religion of Afghanistan. Zoroastrianism was essentially Persian, Buddhism and Hinduism were Indian and Islam was Turko-Arab

Everything about the backward, primitive load of crap that is Islamic “culture” should be changed. It is barbaric garbage for any people to continue living under the way of life that barbarians lived in 7th century Arabia. What an embarrassment that there are still actually human beings who want to continue living the knuckle dragging lifestyle that people back in 7th century Arabia used to live. Muslims should wake up and ditch their totally uncivilised and primitive way of life. Members of the Taliban are a disgrace to the human race.
Raja says
Tim Gallagher,
With all due respect to you, the West, India and others included, have not had the gall to confront islam for centuries, that it is just a concocted lie. I am pretty sure, the “West” of the previous millennium had a better perspective of islam, (and conveyed the same), that it is inherently evil, being primitive is not so much a problem. We still have many “primitive” religions around us and they are not so evil as this anti-Christ “religion”. You have not used any off-color word in anyway, but I personally would refrain from calling this anti-Christ “religion” as being primitive.

……………..
There will be no question, because there will be no rights.

Grimly true. The Afghan government had actually put *stoning* back on the books–*this* is what American and other coalition troops were dying for.
But even this was not Islamic enough for pious Muslims like the Taliban.

Perfectly stated, gravenimage.
My compliments.

Message to the Taliban: practice what you preach.
“But we should not be after changing each other’s culture as we are not intending to change your culture, you should not be changing our culture.”…
Stop trying to impose Sharia law on countries that welcome you.

PMK, this changing of culture is only supposed to work one way.

In other words forget about WOMENS rights under Taliban rule in Afghanistan. But if America will send us millions of dollars we will consider women rights, maybe our fingers are crossed. Thats probably good enough for Biden, maybe Hunter can get on the Women’s Rights Board of directors for the Taliban, depends on how many hundreds of thousand of dollars they will pay him.
