That’ll fix everything.
“Val-de-Marne: he steals equipment from firefighters, threatens the police … and receives a citizenship course,” translated from “Val-de-Marne : il vole du matériel aux pompiers, menace les policiers… et écope d’un stage de citoyenneté,” Valeurs Actuelles, October 4, 2021 (thanks to Medforth):
A young man who had stolen equipment from a fire engine and threatened on social media to attack a police station in Ablon-sur-Seine has been released from custody, Valeurs Actuelles has learned. He was sentenced to follow a citizenship course.
The punishment is surprising, especially since the individual in question had bragged about his misdeeds on social media. A young man filmed himself stealing equipment from a fire engine and was finally arrested on Saturday, October 2. But according to Valeurs Actuelles on Monday (October 4th), he was released after being in police custody for less than 24 hours and after being ordered to undergo a “citizenship course.” However, in his videos, he also insulted the firefighters and threatened to kill police officers. He could soon be recalled by justice.
Apology for terrorism
Questioned, Monday, October 4, by CNews, Jérôme Jimenez, a delegate of the Unsa Police union, denounced “death threats with a form of apology for terrorism because they repeat the words ‘Allah Akbar’ and mimic the noises of Kalashnikovs.” And to recall that such facts are punishable by five years of imprisonment. A simple public insult committed against agents of public authority or administrations is also punishable by a fine of 12,000 euros. The man, describing himself in his video posted on Snapchat as an “Arab and Muslim suburbanite,” had filmed himself stealing equipment from a fire engine on duty in Ablon-sur-Seine. In another video, he said, “I’m going to f**k them. I’ll go to a police station, Allah Akbar,” before miming a flurry of gunfire. Under the pseudonym Rayan, the young man has several tens of thousands of subscribers on social networks.

Perhaps something is cooking in France. Marine Le Pen and a contender make things not so easy for Le Macaron. When new times arrive citizen courses for Arab Muslims could have a very different meaning.

Agree with Robert Spencer’s puckish comment : “That’ll fix everything.” Except, how will encouraging Muslims to adopt French values actually lead jihadists to abandon jihadic values? I agree that it probably won’t.
The French government’s thinking appears to be that they can make ‘frenchified’ Muslims out of jihadists by telling them how wonderful French values are! I don’t want to say it can’t be done, but I am skeptical about this program. Nevertheless, I would love to know what the results will be from it.
Having said that, there truly are many French citizens who identify as Muslims and who do in fact espouse French egalitarianism. But those are not your studious, serious, traditionalist Muslims who consciously follow the strict, canonical Islam of the ‘Islamic consensus’. Those are ‘frenchified’ Muslims in fact; they are modernist Muslims who have jettisoned or simply have ignored much of what canonical Islam teaches.
The modernizing Muslims have quietly custom-designed for themselves their own personal version of Islam. They have quietly cut out all the requirements to fight disbelievers and subjugate them under Sharia. They simply let the jihadists do all that … and they do nothing to stop them when they do it. This modernist, lax version of Islam adopts a practical ‘co-existence model for the sake of survival in a modern society which uses that model, but the ‘co-existence’ model is in fact FAR, FAR different from the attitude of canonical Islam which demands a ‘struggle’ to force Sharia law on everyone alike, whether Muslim or non-Muslim.
What the French are hoping to achieve seems to be something like the ‘Bosnian Muslim’ model in which highly-secular ‘Muslims’ (who may seldom enter a mosque and only identify culturally as Muslims) seem practically identical to non-Muslims. They run bars that serve alcohol and ham sandwiches. A ‘frenchified’ Islam would have to be like that. But why would a sincere, well-read Muslim want that?
Someone who has been immersed in canonical Islam and is well-versed in it will have trouble coming out of it. He will pretty much have to abandon Islam completely in order to leave it.
There are jihadis like that who have gone all out as Muslims practicing every major and minor practice and custom, but who have eventually burnt out from the extraordinary effort required. They suffer from ‘SALAFI BURNOUT’ and there are many of these ‘burnt-out Salafis’, but there was no government program managed by the French government to make them do so.

These sorts of “sentences” are stupidity of the highest order.
The judicial system in civilised countries needs to be held responsible for these decisions. Any judge or parole board member who releases ANY criminal should also be charged with whatever offence committed when, not if, they re offend.
If they commit murder, then the parole board members who signed the release should also be charged with that crime as an accessory before and after the fact.
In other words, they knew there was a high chance of the criminal staying with his criminal ways, so they should also be held to account.
Maybe the sentences will start to reflect the true nature of the crimes if this is done.

Keith O,
If there were 100% accountability, guaranteed no prisoners would be paroled.
Not a single one.
