The principle is always and everywhere the same: in Muslim countries, one must conform one’s behavior to Muslim sensibilities. And in non-Muslim countries, one must conform one’s behavior to Muslim sensibilities.
“Why Did the Municipal Administration Cover Up the Volti Statue?,” translated from “Pour Quelles Raison La Mairie A -T-Elle Bâchée La Statue de Volti?,” Le Hérisson du Confluent, November 11, 2021 (thanks to Medforth):
We researched and interviewed local residents who come into daily contact with this statue given to the town of Montereau by the great sculptor Volti. The work has been installed in Surville for a long time and symbolises the Seine and the Yonne. The testimonies collected are surprising, to say the least: “The statue has been covered for more than a month. We saw workers who were busy with it. They were just at work. We asked and they explained that some children had thrown stones at the artwork and it had been damaged, which is why it is now being restored,” says a resident who walks along the esplanade every day.
She added: “But I don’t know if that’s the real reason. “A little further on, a group of women nodded: “You can’t miss the statue of Volti. It is right in the middle of the path that mosque visitors take. It depicts two naked women, the Seine and the Yonne, intertwined. So it is offensive. It is an insult. It must be hidden, veiled. They must not in any way see or reveal anything.”
mortimer says
Why buy an expensive piece of civic art if it will not be seen and enjoyed by art lovers?
Visual art and music are condemned by Mohammed, so Muslims have these joys permanently removed from their culturally-diminished lives.
If they start giving in to Muslims and continue, the women of Montereau will eventually be unable to leave home unchaperoned and without a veil.
Sharia supremacism is not benign to women.
gravenimage says
Mortimer, everything you say is true.
I cannot find the year this sculpture dates to–but given that Antoniucci Volti was born in 1915 and died in 1989, this art probably dates from somewhat saner times.

Islamists might want to eliminate stray dogs, common sparrows, cattle copulation and so on because like Pakistan they all belong to the land of the pure. These pure or holy people should not stand naked statues. There should be no qualms when whites are despised for their faith, practices et al including democracy.
Celebrate diversity!

Raping Infidels in public, “marrying” little children, and keeping sex slaves is Islamic, but nude statues are un-Islamic…
raja says
Rabid jihadis and all jihad apologists (most Muslims) despise the very looks of a Westerner. It is high time they started to move around in burqa. Never mind even if jihadis get euphoric of islam’s triumph over the West.
Frank Scarn says
Seems to me that that statue is best covered up for reasons having nothing to do with Muslims.
gravenimage says
Frank, I am no fan of this ugly modern art myself–but, with respect–this is immaterial here. Muslims hate great art as much as they do any art you or I may not be fond of.
I would *much* rather have freedom. Putting up with some bad art is a *very* small price to pay.
James Lincoln says
gravenimage,
Just wanted your opinion as an artist and anti-jihadist:
If a “group of devout muslims” stole some very expensive artwork from, say, the Louvre, would they:
1. Try to sell it in order to finance jihad.
2. Publicly destroy the artwork.
gravenimage says
James, it could absolutely go either way. Jihadists have stolen and sold art and artifacts, and they have stolen and destroyed the same. In the sacking of museums and archeological sites in Iraq it seems to mostly have been blackmarket sales; in Afghanistan mostly outright destruction; and in Egypt a combination of the two. Some stuff is easier to fence than others, which is one factor–small, easily portible items are more likely to wind up on the blackmarket than larger, more easily instantly identified items.
But with Jihadists whether they need money for Jihad or are more bent on destroying “Jahillya” is the main issue, and that varies with the Jihadist.
This is all appalling, of course–but despite the chance of damage and loss of provenance, I generally prefer theft to destruction–that is, when the robbers are garden-variety theives, because at least the work survives, even if some of its significance is sometimes lost.
But–as you note–when the theives are Jihadists, this is a much more difficult question. Would I buy art–even great art–if I thought the money would go to fund Jihad terror? This isn’t something I could do–although it would break my heart.to let the art go (not that this is a moral dilemma I am likely to personally face at this time).
Ideally, of course, in such a case it would be possible to alert authorities–but this is not always an option.
Next to the victimization of people and other living creatures, the destruction of art is what I hate most about Islam. I have no idea how much art has been destroyed by Muslims, and it is all the worse now that they have gotten a foothold in the civilized West. Think of the damage they could do in France and Italy alone…
And it has already begun, in churches and galleries across Europe. They have yet to hit the great museums like the Louvre–but surely this is just a matter of time.
James Lincoln says
gravenimage,
Thank you for your very thoughtful and detailed reply.
gravenimage says
Thank you, James.
Elan says
Totally agree Frank – calling something “art” doesn’t make it so. In America, Hunter Biden is another example of “fake” art.
gravenimage says
Elan, the next time Muslims demand that great art be covered, removed, or destroyed, there will already be a solid precedent set with badly made art. Is that *really* something you want? We shouldn’t give in to any demands from barbaric Muslims.
This is similar to the situation with the Nazis destroying “degenerate art”–some of it was anything but; some of it really was pretty bad. But they had no right to destroy the work of others, and of course they soon moved on to murdering the artists themselves. So will Muslims–they have done it before.
As for Hunter Biden, he has every right to create his crappy work. I just don’t want to go to any of his shows myself (I’ve seen enough online to know how bad it is). My only concern re his stuff is if people are buying to curry favor and gain access to his father for political favors–and that is hard to prove. Better just to point out how bad his stuff is and regularly mock it.

MUslims simply do not belong in any civilised, western country. Muslims’ are offended by pretty much every aspect of our more mellow, civilised way of life, this statue being just one aspect of our way of living life that these knuckle dragging, backward Muslims object to. Keep islam and Muslims out. Their views of every aspect of life are incompatible. In fact, Muslims should not want to come to live in non-Muslim countries because, after all, they hate non-Muslims and everything about non-Muslim cultures. They should stay in their crappy, backward, primitive Muslim countries. They don’t belong anywhere else. Muslims only come to non-Muslim countries in order to impose barbaric Islam on non-Muslims. And, on this statue, this is absolutely pathetic and gutless the way that they have caved in to the Muslims and covered the statue up.

tim gallagher says
Thanks for the +1, Wellington. So much of our western civilisation these Muslim invaders hate. They are definitely only here to impose Islam’s backward garbage on all of us. Since I think that there is nothing good in islam at all, I’ll pass. Keep them out. They have nothing positive to bring to our societies.
peace says
They come here for the social welfare, that’s the only reason, to leach off hard working income generating westerners ..
They all genuinely believe all will rule the world someday and they think they are playing their part.
All muslims that break the westerns law should be exported back to their home country ..We don’t need them ..
gravenimage says
Peace, generous welfare benefits are just gravy for Muslim supremacists. The main goal of pious Muslims is to turn our civilized nations into barbaric Islamic crap holes.
tim gallagher says
I agree with gravenimage, peace. Muslims love all that welfare, but I’m sure that what they are really all about is imposing crappy, barbaric islam on all of us non-Muslims. That is why I don’t want any Muslims to be let into our countries. I can find nothing at all good about islam, so I don’t want Muslims in the country where I live trying to imprison us all in islam. I agree with what you say about deporting them, but I think it is a lot smarter not to let them in in the first place.

Muslims need to be offended.
Often.
After all, they’re so “deserving” of this courtesy.
Besides, in direct proportion to Muslims being regularly offended, the better off non-Muslims will be for two reasons: 1) caving to evil is never a winning strategy (think Munich here); 2) it will place Muslims on the defensive where they should always be.

They were probably forced to cover the statue of a naked woman to prevent crowds of Muslim Men ogling it and blocking the street for traffic.

France: Municipality covered statue of naked woman to avoid offending Muslims
………………
Repulsive kowtowing to Islamic demands that could not be more opposed to French values.
Valhella says
Well, it is a somewhat gross depiction of the female form – but as they say, beauty is in the eye of the beholder…. Nevertheless, kowtowing to the insanity of islamics is an outrage.

How funny seeing a statue of a nude women is offensive to islam. The same Islam that is NOT offended by and approves of rape of women and child marriages. You can also throw in wife beating and honor killing of wives and daughters that go unpunished under sharia law.
Offended by a nude statue, give me a break.
It’s about power over infidels.
