My latest in PJ Media:
As recently as Friday, the new, far scarier, ten million times more lethal COVID variant was called the Nu variant, as Rick Moran noted, is “bigger, taller, faster, more lethal, and more deadly than any other variant in history. They call it the ‘Nu’ variant because nu is the 13th letter of the Greek alphabet and this is the 13th variant discovered.” No sooner did the Nu variant burst upon us, however, that we started hearing about yet another variant, which, since we’re using the Greek alphabet here, should have been named the “Xi variant,” after the Greek letter that follows Nu. Yet the new global menace for which we must surrender still more of our civil liberties and normal way of life is instead called the “Omicron variant,” which turns out to be the new name of the Nu. Or rather, there is no Nu, it’s Omicron.
Confused? Join the club. It was reported Friday evening that the World Health Organization (WHO) has skipped two Greek letters in naming the new variant, going from the little-known global menace called the Mu variant straight to the Omicron variant. The WHO left out the Nu for reasons that Abbott and Costello could best explain: “There’s a new COVID variant.” “Oh yeah? What’s it called.” “Nu.” “Yeah, but what’s it called?” And so on happily. We can’t have people laughing and poking fun at COVID variants; that would destroy the whole terrify-the-populace-into-submission aspect.
But why did the WHO top dogs leave out the “Xi variant”? Could it possibly have to do with the fact that the president of the People’s Republic of China is named Xi, and that we have all been admonished for nearly two years now that to call COVID the “China virus” or “Wuhan virus” is racist beyond measure and far outside the bounds of polite discourse? Senator Ted Cruz (R-New California) thinks so. On Friday he retweeted a tweet from Paul Nuki of the Telegraph: “A WHO source confirmed the letters Nu and Xi of the Greek alphabet had been deliberately avoided. Nu had been skipped to avoid confusion with the word ‘new’ and Xi had been skipped to ‘avoid stigmatising a region’, they said. All pandemics inherently political!” Cruz added: “If the WHO is this scared of the Chinese Communist Party, how can they be trusted to call them out the next time they’re trying to cover up a catastrophic global pandemic?”
Jonathan Turley of George Washington University observed: “He who must not be named. It appears the W.H.O. has skipped the next Greek letter after Nu to name the new variant. The next letter is Xi. The concern is that W.H.O. is again avoiding any discomfort for the Chinese government. So they named it Omicron…”

how ridiculous, Xi is already their Lord

the CCP virus should be called XI virus
Infidel says
I still call it the Chinavirus, like President Trump did. Wuhan Virus is fine as well, if it’s officially proven that it was created in the Wuhan Institute of Virology lab, and didn’t originate from bats in a cave in another province
somehistory says
Glenn Beck had a guy on who explained that, contrary to the photos of the bat-woman (she’s no lady) wearing the all-covering space suit at the level 4 lab, a level 2 lab in wuhan was where this virus was being handled…with the workers wearing only goggles and gloves, and the clean-up crew doing the same…and where the scientists put it in a mouse who had been given human lung tissue. It got *loose* and made some of the people in that lab ill.
It was engineered on purpose so they would have a **reason** to make a jab solution. Up until that time, the virus would not have been able to infect humans.
So, the chinese and the fauciliar and drozak and the scientist in one of the Carolina’s (I’ve heard both S and N,,,can’t remember which is correct) all worked to make something to cause world-wide illness. They decided on it back in 2015 and signed contract papers to that effect.
When they had the military games in wuhan, the guys had their temp’s taken when they got to the airport in that city. The chinese knew it and hid it and allowed people all over the world to become ill.
I call it **evil.**

Yes, we certainly would not want anyone to even think nor allege that the Covid-19 was developed in China now, Would we?

Westerners do not know how to pronounce the pinyin word “‘Xi.” Also. omicron is an anagram of moronic which exactly describes the reaction to the Covid virus in many countries..

The CDC’s VARES Report from last Friday numbers may be less than 1% reported
Adverse Reactions 875,653. Deaths 18,461. Serious injuries 135,400
17 year old girl from Washington had Covid in August, First Pfizer shot Sept.3rd, second shot Sept 15, went to ER in October with chest pain – – she had high troponin levels, an abnormal echocardiogram and EKG, increasing tachycardia, suffered cardiac arrest and died October 23. God help us all – now they are injecting 5 year olds. What happened to the old normal?

Picking the Greek Alphabet to name the variants wasn’t a good idea. They should have un-apologetically picked the Mandarin Alphabet in simplified Chinese, which is used on the mainland, and used every letter in that alphabet to get a variant. There would be 1753 characters, and that could handle all the variants
Also, the ‘Xi’ in χ is by no means pronounced the same as the ‘Xi’ in President Xi
GreekEmpress says
I agree Infidel. If it’s racist to call Covid the China flu, then I call naming the variants by the letters of the Greek alphabet an insult to us Greeks.
They could at least go in order—how did they go from Alpha to Delta to Omicron? Were there variants I slept through?
Infidel says
Alpha was the first variant from the UK last October. Beta was detected in South Africa in December, Gamma in Brazil in January and Delta in India just after that. Lambda was the next major one discovered in Peru and Mu was detected in Colombia. So so far, South Africa has originated both Beta and Omicron
Infidel says
Also, I confused χ w/ ξ: ν and ξ were the skipped letters (using lowercase to avoid confusion w/ the Roman script)

At some point, we need to terminate diplomatic relations w/ Beijing, recognize Taiwan, and have a sanctions regime similar to the one on Iran
Wellington says
A beautiful sentiment, Infidel, though I think it imperative we first become self-reliant again and make virtually everything here in America before we do this. How stupid of the powers that be in America to have outsourced so much of what we used to make to China. Time to reverse this, especially because China is clearly an enemy and wants our demise.
Infidel says
That will take a while. Impose sanctions on Beijing first, and adopt a dual step strategy of
‣ Start importing our stuff from other countries, such as Vietnam, Thailand, Philippines….
‣ Build the industrial ecosystems for things to be manufactured here, and use as much automation as needed to ensure that they are as cost-effective as China
If we impose the sanctions first, it will put pressure on Corporate America to transition quickly. If we wait until they are ready before we pull the plug on China, they’ll take their time, giving Beijing the power to squeeze us in b/w. Now is in fact the best time to do it, particularly given the logistic issues at Los Angeles and Long Beach
Wellington says
Not bad ideas, Infidel, though this will never happen as long as the Brandon Administration is in power. It’s a total suck-up to China—-and besides the Biden family has many financial interests related to China, many corporations and businesses too, for instance the NBA.

We could name the next variant the Rubicon variant in memory of Julius Caesars 49 BC crossing of the Rubicon river and sparking war.
Infidel says
Speaking of which, just watched Comrade Joe’s speech on Newsmax, and he pronounces the new variant ‘Omnicron’. It’s not tough, Joe, even if you don’t know the Greek alphabet: it’s Omicron, or Oh-micron, both common English words

In 1940 the Imperial Japanese Army dropped bubonic plague-infected fleas over Quzhou, a small town in western Zhejiang Province of China. 80 years later the CCP says to the Imperial Japanese of yore, hold my beer.

Sometimes I think that in the Pacific theater, we picked the wrong side. We should have picked Japan over China, then the Berlin-Rome-Tokyo axis would have split
tgusa says
The ccp has a lot more in common with the Imperial Japanese than China wants to admit.
Infidel says
The CCP has a lot in common w/ Imperial China. What President Xi has done is combine Maoism, which he believes in, w/ the Middle Kingdom, that followed an ideology called Tianxia, or ‘all under heaven’. What that means is that the Chinese emperor is the sole sovereign authority on earth. That is China’s dream, which is why they only employ Chinese in all their belt/road

Let’s face facts we can’t hurt China’s feelings now can we. After all without China, WalMart will be empty. Our government has promoted so much production and trade with China they now control the consumer market place for goods. Now made in America can’t come close to keeping up with demand from consumers. So I can guess what will happen. China can create a total upheaval of the consumer market by withholding merchandise, which will create higher prices and major shortages in the market place. China is kind of holding a gun to our head thanks to big corporations off shoring production of goods for cheap labor markets over seas. Doin business with your enemy always bites you in the butt.
