On December 15, 2021, the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) re-released an op-ed titled “Love for Jesus Can Bring Christians and Muslims Together.”[1] This op-ed was written by Ibrahim Hooper, CAIR’s current National Communications Director, and for a number of years it has been released annually before Christmas.
Hooper wrote:
As forces of hate in this country and worldwide try to pull Muslims and Christians apart, we are in desperate need of a unifying force that can bridge the widening gap of interfaith misunderstanding and mistrust. That force could be the message of love, peace and forgiveness taught by Jesus and accepted by followers of both faiths.
Spiritual Unity in the Koran?
After writing the above statement about a desperately needed “unifying force,” Hooper mentioned Koran 2:136:
Christians and Muslims would do well to consider another verse in the Quran reaffirming God’s eternal message of spiritual unity: “Say ye: ‘We believe in God and the revelation given to us and to Abraham, Ismail, Isaac, Jacob, and the Tribes, and that given to Moses and Jesus, and that given to (all) Prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and it is unto Him that we surrender ourselves.’” (2:136)
But Koran 2:136 does not reaffirm “God’s eternal message of spiritual unity” between Christians and Muslims. In the first place, the “ye” to whom this verse is directed are the Muslims; in the second place, even though Hooper used the word “God” in this Koran verse, this verse actually refers to Allah, the god of Islam, and Allah’s revelation (the Koran), and in both of which Muslims must believe.[2]
Here it is important to understand that Allah, the god of Islam, is not the same as the God of Christians and Jews. We know this because here is what Allah has to say in the Koran about Christians and Jews:
Allah states that the only religion acceptable to him is Islam (e.g., 3:19 and 3:85); Christians and Jews are disbelievers[3] (e.g. 2:120, 3:99, 3:110, and 5:65), and Jews are among the worst enemies of Muslims (5:82); Allah curses Christians and Jews (9:30) and states that those who believe that Allah had a Son commit the one unforgivable sin in Islam, Shirk[4](e.g. 4:48 and 4:116); Allah states that those who commit Shirk will go to Hell (e.g. 3:151 and 5:72-73); Allah states that Christians and Jews are among the worst of creatures and “will abide in the fire of Hell” (98:6); Allah specifically forbids Muslims from being friends with Christians and Jews (5:51), and instead commands Muslims to fight Christians and Jews (9:29).
It is also important to note that Koran 2:136 states that Jesus is just another prophet and not, as Christians believe, the Son of God.
Where is the “spiritual unity” in this Koran verse that requires Christians to believe in Allah, the god of Islam, and the Koran, and to deny that Jesus is the Son of God?
Hooper’s claim of “spiritual unity” between Christians and Muslims is further undermined by the fact that Christianity is considered to be a false religion because Allah states that Jesus was not crucified, but it only appeared so (Koran 4:157-158). Instead, Allah took Jesus, who was inside a house with his disciples, bodily into paradise and made one of Jesus’ disciples look like Jesus; it was that disciple who was crucified.[5] So Muslims who know their religion look at a crucifix or a painting of the Crucifixion and see an imposter hanging on the cross. And of course, if there was no Crucifixion, there was no Resurrection. So Islam teaches that Christianity is a false religion based on a fraud, and the disciples who spread that religion knew about that fraud.
The “unifying force” of Jesus’ Message
As I pointed out above, Hooper wrote:
…we are in desperate need of a unifying force that can bridge the widening gap of interfaith misunderstanding and mistrust. That force could be the message of love, peace and forgiveness taught by Jesus and accepted by followers of both faiths.
Hooper quoted the following partial statement from Muhammad which seemed to imply that Jesus was the unifying figure for Christians and Muslims:
Prophet Muhammad said: “Both in this world and in the Hereafter, I am the nearest of all people to Jesus, the son of Mary. The prophets are paternal brothers; their mothers are different, but their religion is one.”
But here is Muhammad’s actual statement, and in which he explained what Jesus’ message would really be when Jesus returned to earth:
Imam Ahmad recorded that Abu Hurayrah said that the Prophet said, The Prophets are paternal brothers: their mothers are different, but their religion is one. I, more than any of mankind, have more right to ‘Isa [Jesus], son of Maryam, for there was no Prophet between him and I. He will descend… He will break the cross [destroy Christianity], kill the pig, and banish the Jizyah and will call the people to Islam. During his time, Allah will destroy all religions except Islam…’Isa will remain for forty years and then will die, and Muslims will offer the funeral prayer for him. [6]
So according to Muhammad, Jesus would return to earth, destroy Christianity, and call people to Islam, while Allah would be destroying all the other religions. Jesus, being only a man, would then die after forty years.
And according to Muhammad, during those forty years Jesus would be judging mankind by the laws of the Koran:
Narrated Abu Hurairah: Allah’s Messenger said, “How will you be when the son of Maryam (Mary) [‘Isa (Jesus)] descends amongst you, and he will judge people by the law of the Qur’an and not by the law of the Gospel.”[7]
It appears that the Muslim Jesus will not have much “love, peace and forgiveness” for Christians.
Conclusion
In his op-ed, Hooper acknowledged, without going into detail, that Christians and Muslims “do have some differing perspectives on Jesus’ life and teachings.” But Hooper believed that the mutual love of Jesus by Christians and Muslims, and Jesus’ “message of love, peace and forgiveness,” would overcome those seemingly minimal differences and provide a “unifying force” for those two religions.
The reality is, as we have seen in this article, that there is a fundamental, irreconcilable difference in who Christians believe Jesus is, and who Muslims believe Jesus is. Christians believe Jesus is the Son of God, and Muslims believe Jesus is only a human prophet who will eventually return to earth and destroy Christianity while calling people to Islam.
In spite of what Hooper claims, there is no unifying force that can bridge these fundamentally different beliefs about Jesus, because only one can be true.

to hooper: No way, jose, no way will True Christians ever *unite* with those who portray Jesus Christ as a coward…for having another man die in His place….or as One Who will return and kill all Christians, because True Christians don’t associate with “liars and those disgusting in their filth.”
No way for Christians to have a “sharing with the demons” by “eating at the table with demons,” and no way to *unite* with “bad associations” and those who worship a disgusting human…who may hot have been real, but is portrayed as someone to revere and who is said to be raping the Mother of Jesus in a drunken orgy.
Forget it. If you get anyone to *unite* with you, they are Not Christians. Because Christians know to stay away from snakes and “offspring of vipers.”

Agree that Christians cannot endorse the Islamic version of ‘Isa’. I have studied the matter deeply and find that the Koran’s version of ‘Isa’ is based on Mohammed’s séances with his guiding spirit. It is purely subjective or inspired by spiritism.
The Islamic ‘Isa’ is more based on the Gnostic texts than he is on the New Testament. The main purpose of ‘Isa’ existing is to announce the coming of Mohammed 600 years after him.
There is practically nothing about Islamic ‘Isa’ that a Christian can endorse.

Yes, Somehistory–to claim that Jesus did not die on the cross is one thing, but to claim that he coerced some poor sad victim to die nameless in his stead is morally sickening.
And as David Wood has pointed out, it is also a bizarre claim–if “Allah” wanted Christians to reject the idea of Jesus dying for their sins, why did he go out of his way to make it appear that he had done just that?
But then, there is no logical consistancy in Islam.
gregbeetham says
A Muslim asked me once on a website about how it was possible for men to kill God if Jesus was God? If Jesus was God he could have stopped it from happening, and since Christians claim it did happen then how could Jesus be God? If he was killed as Christians claim then Jesus was just a man and not God.
I’m no theological expert but I offered him that Jesus was indeed human but also carried the spirit of God which gave him divinity, the human could be killed but the spirit of God could not.
Jesus sacrificed himself in atonement for the original sin in the Garden of Eden which is why God allowed Jesus to be killed, the human part.
Anyway the Muslim wandered off and I heard no more from him.

Not just that, allah has plans for ‘Isa’ to convert or massacre all Christians on Judgement Day, showing what a rotten manager he is. If you were the head of a company and you had to put someone in charge of a key project central to the company’s success in the next several quarters, would you assign it to someone who has no experience doing it (such as ‘Isa’) or would you assign it to someone w/ a proven track record (Mohammed, Abu Baqr, Umar I)?
Wellington says
Just more deception from a Mohammedan. Instructive how time and time again Islam can make headway with a Christian only if the Christian is ignorant of what Islam really has to say about Jesus. Personally, my starting point with a Christian who knows next to nothing about Islam is to point out to such a person that, per Islamthink, Jesus is coming back at the end of the world and throwing all Christians into Hell for deifying Him. I then go from there.
Arguably, Islam’s greatest ally is ignorance of Islam. Count on it.
somehistory says
Hello, tomorrow has become today.
And yes, if a person loving Jesus Christ knows that much, it should be enough to make them abhor islam. If it is not enough, then that person is seriously deficient in knowledge of Christ. And that would be a monumental problem for them and their faith.
Wellington says
“…seriously deficient in knowledge of Christ….”
Your statement above, somehistory, only made me think how woeful is the present pontifex maximus and how very much we need another pontifex maximus in the mold of Benedict XVI (still living btw and this in and of itself is quite telling, interesting and even quite instructive and damning).
Ah, where is an Urban II type when you need one? But I digress except to register this observation, to wit, only a muscular Christianity, whether Roman Catholic, Protestant or Orthodox, can withstand the assault on Western Civilization by those twin malevolencies which are Islam and Leftism. The fact that an old agnostic like myself has to be in the forefront of defending traditional Christianity, and which I most certainly do, only serves as testimony to how much the West has fallen over the past half century or more since someone like myself is presently in the position that they are.
I really don’t welcome this role, being the invincibly ignorant person I am about Christianity (Judaism too), but the fact that I find myself in this role disturbs me greatly; it truly does and I am not kidding. Christianity needs to be defended by Christians en masse and not by someone like me. Surely.
As ever I remain—and ready to fight the good fight alongside Christians and Jews against the spiritual barbarism which is Islam and against the most recent secular idiocy which is Leftism—
Agnostically yours,
Wellington

You know, Wellington, every time I read where you defend Christianity and Christians and say how much better the world would be if mozlums would all wake up as Christians, I am reminded of what Jesus Christ said in Matthew 25 . Hooper intentionally lies through his teeth when he states: “That force could be the message of love, peace and forgiveness taught by Jesus and ACCEPTED by followers of BOTH faiths.”
There is nothing in the Koran or hadiths that tells Muslims to ‘forgive’. Rather, it tells must to take revenge.
Proof texts:
-K.11.173 “Believers, retaliation is decreed for you in bloodshed.”
-K.2.178 “O you who believe! Retaliation is prescribed for you in the matter of the slain.”
-K.5:33 “The reprisal against those who wage war on Allah and His Messenger, and go about the earth corrupting it, is that they should be killed or crucified, or have their alternate hands and feet cut off, or be banished from the land.” Waging war against Allah is rejecting Him.”–Tafsir of Imam al-Bukhari
-Imam AbdulLatif ibn AbdurRahman rahimullah said, “It is not possible for someone to realize Tawheed and act upon it, and yet not be hostile against the mushrikeen. So anyone who isn’t hostile against the mushrikeen, then it can’t be said that he acts upon Tawheed, nor that he realizes it.” [ad-Durar as-Saniyyah 8/167]
-(The recompense of those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger and do mischief in the land is only that they shall be killed or crucified or their hands and their feet be cut off on the opposite sides, or be exiled from the land.) `Wage war’ mentioned here means: oppose and contradict, and it includes (opposing) disbelief.”–Tafsir Ibn Kathir “Surat al-Ma’idah [Q 5]”
-K. 2.191 And kill them wherever you find them, and drive them out from whence they drove you out, and fitna is severer than slaughter, and do not fight with them at the Sacred Mosque until they fight with you in it, but if they do fight you, then slay them; such is the recompense of the unbelievers.
-K.9:11-12 – But if they violate their oaths after their covenant, and taunt you for your Faith, – fight ye the chiefs of Unfaith: for their oaths are nothing to them: that thus they may be restrained.
-from a Sharia law web site…the “punishment of execution which sharee’ah imposes on everyone who reviles the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), whether he is a Muslim, a dhimmi or a mu’aahid, because transgressing against the status of the Prophets is disbelief in Allaah Almighty, and it invalidates every sanctity, right and covenant; it is a major betrayal which deserves the most severe punishment.

The spirit of Christianity and the spirit of islam are polar opposites. There is no connection between Christianity, which preaches peace and tolerance, and Islam which preaches hatred and endless violence until everyone has submitted and become Muslim. How anyone falls for this bullshit that the lying Muslims keep putting forward is beyond my comprehension. There’s enough evidence of Islam’s evil nature by now for even Mr Magoo to be able to see what a vile ideology Islam is.

Before Mohammad ’cleansed’ the Kabba of many idols, it was in fact a pagan temple dedicated by Hindus (although they weren’t called Hindus yet). The tribe of Mohammad followed a primary idol known as Durga, the moon god Al-llat who was represented by the crescent moon to the Arabs and the Hindus. Even before Mohammad claimed prophetic visions he wanted to be a Hebrew (obviously people he admired for their intelligence and beauty) and so he began emulating the Hebrews and their monotheism, but the Jews could not accept him.
Mohammad became angry with the Jews and Christians and began having his visions of his own god in his own way.
God ceased to be called Ar-Rhaman and Mohammad began using the word
Al-Llah to describe his god. This was never the Christian or Hebrew Yahweh (Elohei Avraham the (God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob), but the pagan Arab-Hindu Al-Lat of the Qurashi tribe. (Al meant ‘the’ and ilah meant ‘goddess’, not God.
Jesus taught, “Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you and persecute you.” Math 5:44
Ironically, they call the Christians INFIDELS because they believe (ignorantly) that Christians worship 3 gods (the Holy Trinity). Mohammad fails to understand monotheism. However, it is not enough to say there is only one God if you point at the wrong God.
The Muslims however, give Mohammad an equal position as Allah if not more importance.
In order to be a Muslim you have to say the shehada “there is no god but Allah, and Mohammad is his messenger”. If one cite the first part only, he cannot be a Muslim, he must cite the second part pertaining Mohammad.
Christians’ God, the Lord Jesus Christ is a God of love, peace and mercy.
Jesus forbade his followers from using the sword (Mathew 26:52).
When He was on earth He cured the sick healed the blind. Mohammad didn’t.
Jesus came to save lives (Luke 9:56). Mohammed came to destroy lives (Surah 48:16….).
Westman says
It seems Muslims who are aware of the discrimination against unbelievers in the Quran are hoping no one will read it. There seems to be two reasons, 1. Shame that it is so warlike and inharmonious with modern society, and, 2. Deception to lull unbelievers into assuming Islam has no intent for domination by all means.
For the average Western Muslim, he knows the region cannot ever again dominate Western society by force and he may not actually believe in Islam. He finds himself integrated within Islamic society and wishes to keep his wife, children, and relatives. So he stays, though orthodox Islamic radicals, in the news, keep embarrassing him.
CAIR continually injects itself to improve the image of Islam yet fails because the Jihadists have the loudest voice – violence. No matter in which news source one reads the comments, after a violent act in the name of Islam, they show a poor image of Islam. CAIR is “tilting at windmills”; offering propaganda and no solutions.to Islamic violence. Being a puppet of the Muslim Brotherhood it will never solve its most pressing problem – itself.

Then, note that the meretricious Ibrahim Hooper doesn’t tell you that the Muslim “Jesus”–really, “prophet Isa”–has *nothing* to do with the loving Jesus of the Gospels. Instead, his main purpose is to return in the last days and *kill Christians*. CAIR doesn’t want you to know this.

If Hooper and CAIR would do their part to stop pulling Christians and Muslims apart, maybe I’d listen.
They could start by ceasing the destruction of lives and livelihoods of those that made a comment or statement they didn’t like. Maybe a dialogue instead of the never ending lawsuits?

Why would Muslims love Jesus? According to the Koran Jesus was a total failure as a prophet of Islam. He did not spread Islam at all. The world did not know about Allah or Islam until Muhammad came along 600 years after the time of Jesus. In fact, Jesus was responsible for the founding of Christianity, a religion completely unacceptable to Allah and which came about because of the “deception” played upon mankind (according to the Koran) regarding the crucifixion of Jesus. It seems to me that, if anything, Muslims should hold Jesus in very low esteem because of his total failure as a prophet of Islam who needed to be saved from disgrace through an act of trickery perpetrated by Allah.
I can only assume Muslims love Jesus not because of what he did but because of what he WILL do when he returns. That is, he will abolish the collection of the Jizya which, since Jesus has not yet come again, must still be something Allah wishes to be enforced. This leads me to a couple of questions for Mr. Ibrahim which are as follows:
1. When and how are Muslims going to start once again collecting the Jizya from Christians, Jews and all others who are classified as the “People of the Book” (per verse 9:29 of the Koran)?
2. Why should Muslims love Jesus for abolishing the Jizya and what is it that will become of Christians and Jews and all other non-Muslims when Jesus does return since the return of the Islamic Jesus will NOT bring about the final Judgment Day (in contradiction to what Christians believe will happen per the Bible with Jesus being the final King and ultimate Judge of all mankind)?
I don’t really expect an answer from Mr. Ibrahim.

How would I feel having spent years believing something to be true only to find out many years later that it was all just a trick and a lie. Plus, to top it all off the person who tricked me would, upon revealing to me that it was a trick, mocked me for falling for the trick and threatened me with death if I did not admit what a fool I had been for believing the trick to be the truth instead of a lie. Would I love that person? I think not. In fact, I think I would end up despising that person. So I am left wondering – why? Why would I love the Jesus of Islam? Why would I love Allah and Islam?

Yes, it’s difficult to love a liar…and they are unworthy of respect. A True Christian not only *loves* Jesus but has the utmost respect for what He did for all of us, even those who do not accept the gift.

I spoke with a Muslim colleague at work a couple of years back. He knew I am Christian and one day he really wanted to talk about that. It seemed to me that he tried to reach some common ground and he gave me the run around about the Muslim perspective on Jesus; how they love him and consider him an important prophet and so on. I had a feeling where he was going with all this, so pretty soon I said, yes but we actually consider him God. Then in a blink of an eye the loving tone changed and immediately he refuted this by saying that he didn’t understand how we could think God would go to the toilet and so on, and so we didn’t talk about Jesus again after that.
Of course I can’t be sure what he was expecting, but I’m afraid others who’re weak in their faith will shy away and give in. I actually had this feeling – in my own (Christian) country mind you – that I was supposed compromise on my most fundamental convictions as a Christian in order to show tolerance or whatever. They can threaten me with everything, it will never happen, Jesus is Lord. Merry Christmas everyone..

I mentioned that the Muslim “Jesus” was not really the same as the Jesus of the Gospels, including his killing Christians in the last days. This thug didn’t appear to realize that I didn’t consider this a good thing. Instead he said, ‘Of course [“prophet Isa” will kill all Christians]! Because they lied about him!’
This is how Muslims think.

I agree. It’s not that I hate Muslims, but I think they’re being very deceptive and dishonest. They al come under the guise of wanting to live here in peace and have a better life. For one, I don’t consider that a valid cause. Probably 99% of the 3rd world, incl. non-Muslims, would like that. Why do Muslims have always seem to have this privileged access to our nations? Anyway, I think only a tiny, tiny minority aren’t aware – at least to some degree – of the main agenda, which is the Islamic take over of Europe and eventually America. Of course as a native European even suggesting such a thing is immediately dismissed as “Islamophobia”, racism etc. It’s a crazy world we’re living in..

CAIR officially declared “Love for Jesus unites Christians and Muslims at Christmas time” Which Jesus”
Many Muslims do claim that they “Love Jesus, too.” Nevertheless, it’s very important for Christians to understand that “jesus” of Islam is not the Jesus of the Bible and Christianity. For the “jesus ” of Islam and the Qu ‘ran is not God.
By strong contrast the Jesus of Christianity and the Bible is God. Meaning God the Son of God the Father. Matthew 3:16. Hebrews 1:6-8.
That Jesus is God many be seen in John 1:1-3. 20:28 Romans 9:6. First John 5:20.
Furthermore by comparing John 5:22 with Romans 14:12. Reveals that Jesus is God.
.
In addition, by comparing the Old Testament with the New Testament shows that Jesus is God. As in comparing Psalm 89:8,9 .with Matthew 8:23-27. Proves Jesus is God.
Likewise by comparing Isaiah 46:22,23. With Philippians 2::5-11 shows that Jesus is God. Also
Daniel 7:13,14. Compared with John 5:25, 26 clearly reveals Jesus to be God.
In conclusion, .the “jesus” that Muslims love is not the same Jesus Who Christians love.
