Just in case anyone still had the idea that The New York Times is an actual news source, the Times itself put that notion to rest once and for all Monday when it issued an epic five-paragraph correction that sums up virtually everything that’s wrong today with the corrupt and compromised Leftist propaganda organ known as the “Paper of Record.”
It all started on November 16, when the Times published a lengthy puff piece about Refaat Alareer, a professor at Islamic University in Gaza City. The Times maintains a consistently anti-Israel stance and seizes upon every opportunity it can to depict the Palestinian Arabs as wise, brown, indigenous people suffering under the oppression of white occupiers. This requires downplaying and misrepresenting a great deal of encouragement for jihad terrorism, rocket attacks, and genocidal rhetoric, and it calls for the elevation of Palestinians who would likely appeal to Western sensibilities as heroes.
Enter Refaat Alareer. He seemed well suited for the role of a noble voice for peace; the Times story begins with him giving literature undergraduates a poem about Jerusalem and then asking them who wrote it. “To the students, all women,” (the Times shows no interest in why that is), “the poet’s identity, or at least background, was obvious,” writes author Patrick Kingsley. “This was a text about Jerusalem, a city that they, as young Palestinians unable to leave Gaza for most of their lives, had long cherished but never visited. And the poem was written from the perspective of a wistful onlooker who, like them, loved but could not enter the city.” Alareer’s students couldn’t name the poet, but they were sure of one thing: “Only a Palestinian could have written with such warmth about Jerusalem.”

A paper that in the 20th century said Stalin was a good leader bringing peace and justice to the masses in the Soviet Union as he murder millions of them in the 1920-thru 1940s. A paper that said Hitler was not so bad in the early 1930s not really meaning what he said about he was going to murder or make all the Jews leave Germany for the “master race” take over many disputed lands in Eastern Europe? A paper that failed to report on the “cultural Revolution” in China in the late 1950s to middle of the 1960s that killed up to 100 million Chinese people in the way of” communist progress”? A paper that now daily pushes the latest fad in America that western society is bad ,that it was built on the backs of slaves (even though slavery has been in all history in all mankind every society for thousands of years in every society until in 1860s it was done away with in America in the civil war).Even native Americans have made slaves of tribes they beaten in battle before Europeans set foot in the new world. Yes why is the NYT still a thing in the 21th century with its track record of the last 120 years of reporting opinion pieces not found in facts ??

“…why is the NYT still a thing in the 21st century…?”
A la Samuel Johnson respecting why, to wit (but without the self-deprecation), “ignorance,…pure ignorance.”

Failing New York Times Issues Five-Paragraph Mother of All Corrections
…………..
The NYT has been lauding totalitarians since at least the 1930s, where “journalists” like Walter Duranty fell all over himself in awe of Stalin. *Ugh*.
Mayor says
Durante may or may not have been a “true believer”, but, the Soviets made sure that he was paid a high salary, given a luxury apartment, along with other perks that only Stalin`s top henchmen received. All for writing pure fantasy about the wonders of the Soviet Union and its beneficent ruler, Josef Dzugashvili..

Mayor, Duranty wasn’t just some cluless naif, and he actively engaged in propaganda for the Soviets. He both admitted the brutality of the Stalinist system and defended the necessity of it. He also uncritically passed along Soviet propaganda. Ugly stuff.
I don’t know if he was genuinely ignorant or misled when he claimed that the imposed famine in Ukraine was untrue. Some of what he said later implies that he *did* know.
Whatever his motivations, this was terribly harmful, as many in the US and the rest of the West believed what they read in the NYT.
Maemae77 says
Sadly, most of the people that still believe all that leftist propaganda are to intellectually lazy and stubborn to bother to read it. It would hurt their pride realizing they were easily fooled but at their own peril. Ugh.

This article isn’t helpful in the least. When clicking on the links to find what the NYT said, it’s asking me to pay. I refuse to pay for this bird-cage liner. If anyone can see it and copy & paste it, I’d greatly appreciate it.

Hello Proud Islamophobe, I was unable to link to the remainder of the article. Nothing about payment, but still couldn’t complete. Frustrating.
