Putin doesn’t say what kind of terrorists they were, at least as far as this report goes, but they were almost certainly Islamic jihadis. It’s the international terror threat that no one dares to name.
“Putin says 32 terrorist attacks foiled in Russia in 2021,” Tass, December 19, 2021 (thanks to Henry):
MOSCOW, December 20. /TASS/. Russia’s security agencies managed to achieve a decline in the terrorist threat, Russian President Vladimir Putin noted that 32 terrorist attacks have been prevented over an 11-month period this year.
“Over recent years, there are significant progress and positive dynamics in this challenging, extremely responsible area [the fight against terrorism]. There has been a dramatic decline in the terrorist threat,” the Russian head of state said in a video statement on the occasion of the Security Agency Worker Day.
According to Putin, “over the past eleven years, more than 200 terrorist attacks have been foiled, the number of terrorist crimes has decreased dramatically over this period.” “The vast majority of such crimes are nipped in the bud,” he added. “Over an 11 month-period this year, 61 crimes have been prevented, including 32 terrorist attacks, thanks to your effectiveness and coordination. This is a good result, but there are still many issues,” the Russian president addressed the employees of the security agencies….

Guaranteed that if you are Estonian, Latvian, Lithuanian, certainly Polish, Czech or Slovakian—also Georgian, Romanian and many others, including western Ukrainian—you and your ancestors learned long ago never to take at face value what a Russian leader says. Never.
Putin is no exception to this rule. Not even close.

On the other hand, that was the empire that put an end to the snake pit known as Turkistan, and ended the slave markets of Buqhara and Xeva. The region that gave the world the likes of the Khwarezmids, Seljuq, Tamerlane, Babur, and a whole host of other jihadist rulers, who ravaged much of western and southern Asia
That’s not a small thing to be thankful for! It was Russia that saw to it that todays’ ex-Soviet -stans are nothing even close to Afghanistan or Pakistan in terms of islamic fanaticism. Otherwise, Central Asia would have been as virulent as the Ottoman and Mughal empires
Wellington says
Yeah, Infidel, but Russia as a whole has never gotten freedom, and this is a damn shame and has been a burden to the West at large—to Russia even.
In the full interest of disclosure, I am of Polish descent and I think you know what the Poles think of Russians.
Infidel says
Yeah, I do think that the Russians should have focused less on Europe and more on Siberia, and created a prosperous nation centered around somewhere in the Siberian heartland, instead of St Petersburg or even Moscow
As far as disclosures go, as a former Indian, once the Russians had overrun Turkistan, not only did Turkish invasions of India, like that of Tamerlane or Babur cease, but also, the rulers of Afghanistan started to be nervous about what was happening north of them, and after 1800, there ceased to be Afghan depredations across the Hindu Kush. And even w/o the Brits, the Sikhs happened to have a state that occupied what’s today the top half of Pakistan, and had the muslims on a leash

Infidel, the Soviet Communists just hated all religions–peaceful Christianity and Judaism as much as violent Islam.
Infidel says
True – but it was the Romanovs who destroyed the hub of jihadist invasions throughout the Middle Ages – Buqhara, Samarqand, Merw, et al. The period I’m describing was the entire 19th century, when the Russians – not the Soviets – were busy curbing Turkistan
Like I mentioned the other day in the other Putin thread, the one drawback of the breakup of the Soviet Union was the end of Russian control over the -stans. And we see the results today w/ Azerbaijan, but over the long term, we’re likely to see it w/ the likes of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and other -stans as well

I agree to that extent, Infidel. Unfortunately, Putin is now enabling Islam in Russia and beyond.

Russia: Putin says 32 terrorist attacks were foiled in 2021
…………
Assuming this is accurate–always a question when dealing with Putin, of course–then I’m glad they were foiled. Appalling that there have been so many–but not surprising.
