That fiction has quickly fallen apart.
Taliban militants pulled guns on United Nations aid workers and took off with 3.7 tonnes of Australian flour meant to be delivered to some of Afghanistan’s poorest families as the war-torn country faces a catastrophic famine.
The Australian Government donated the vital baking staple through the World Food Program as part of a $100 million handout which also includes other UN agencies.
This isn’t especially surprising because it’s how Islamic terrorists routinely operate.
And, I noted, UN agencies have been paying protection money to the Taliban for quite some time.
The Taliban had an extensive and sophisticated tax collection network long before they took Kabul which included all the usual elements of bureaucracy, registration, certificates, and assessments. They even have “NGO coordinators” who work with non-profit groups.
As an Economist article noted, “Britain’s Foreign Office had to remind ngos not to pay taxes to the Taliban.”
The Taliban at one point provided a list of non-profits that had registered with their Commission for the Arrangement and Control of Companies and Organisations. The group “included UN agencies, national and international NGOs and human rights organisations” including those that “rely on funding from a wide range of sources, including both the UN and the US government”.
That was back in 2013 when the Taliban had far less power and were less intimidating.
Humanitarian aid, either directly or through UN and local agencies, will be taxed by the Taliban. The Taliban will seize materials when they choose, or they’ll tax the organizations involved.
Or both.
Sending aid to Afghanistan is funding terrorism. Period.

Nothing from me they are terrorists period.

Agree no one in UK voted for Boris to give £75 mill to this bunch of murderers. W ehave no control over how it is spent. I will never again vote for cons, never for the other 2 outfits either.
I voted Cons simply to keep Labour out.

Grimly, Jeremy Corbyn would have been *even worse*.

Beggars….Only oil and begging keeps islam afloat.
Westman says
I’m thinking more like extortionists and parasites.
The Taliban consider women to be possessions, put them in black bags to make them miserably hot in the sun, assign them to all domestic labor, beat them as necessary to force compliance, and then make sure they can’t run away or find a better man by sending a male minder to keep them “safe”. These Taliban guys know they don’t deserve to be loved.
Theirs is an orthodox warlord mentality – sponging off the weak and “conquered”`- right from the Quran and the life example of Muhammad.
Extortion, stealing from governments, NGOs, and their own people is simply to be expected. War and booty is their way of life.
Check Burry says
I read the talibums have much cash but its secure held in USA, does any one have more
info on that, or will big daddy biden release it.

I think you may be thinking of Iran, Check.
paul says
The report says that after the UN complained, the flour was returned, so this report is not giving the whole facts and the situation is not as chaotic as reported here. That’s disappointing that you are not covering the full story and only the narrative that supports your view. That makes me suspect the rest of your reporting, sad to say.
gravenimage says
Wait–paul here is saying that it is OK for the Taliban to steal flour from the UN intended for hungry people so long aas they return some of it following UN complaints? *Good lord*.
As for him supposedly suspecting this story, it was reported by the Daily Mail–a reputable news source. Then, this story was also reported by the Australian and by Asian News.
However, I cannot find any story saying that the Taliban returned even a portion of the flour they stole to the UN. All very telling.
roberta says
I read several of the articles also (mostly just reprints), but saw nothing on a return of humanitarian aid by the taliban.
Paul, its your turn at bat?
Paul says
The daily mail article says the flour was returned. I’m not saying that it is alright to take the flour in the first place. I’m just saying that the reporting on this site seems biased rather than strictly factual. I would like the site to be as unbiased as possible and not like the many sites on all sides of the divide that have their own axe to grind.
James Lincoln says
Do you have a citation, Paul?
gravenimage says
OK, at the very end of the Daily Mail article linked to above I found this:
“‘We were ready to say something publicly and get a whole bunch of countries behind us. In the end, it wasn’t necessary because after the UN agencies made their representations, it was returned,’ a source told The Australian.”
I’d missed this on my first read through.
That this leads paul here–or Paul, his spelling of his own name is inconsistent–to believe that not noting this is smeaing of the good name of the bloody Taliban is simply bizarre, though.
Everything Jihad Watch reported was factual, and they linked to the original article. That paul–or Paul–believes this is unfair to the Taliban is odd at best, and likely something worse.
Keith O says
Not surprised by this in any way shape or form.
Islam is all about take, take, take, and give only terror, misery and fear in return.
Raj Dave says
Good thing that India’s 50,000 tons of wheat is stuck at Pakistan border. Had that made it to Afghanistan, the Taliban would have stolen it, too. No aid will get to the impoverished people of Afghanistan. Taliban, who are mostly Pakistani terrorists would steal the whole lot.
Walter Sieruk says
No informed and intelligent person is so terrible naïve to trust any “promise” made by the Taliban. The disingenuous and outright lying Taliban can’t be trusted to keep their word. Be it the topic of humanitarian aid sent to to distribute to the poor people of Afghanistan or anything else they might happen to promise.
It’s a foolish and gullible thing to trust in anything the Taliban might promise.
To put this in another way, if one of the Taliban chief or any Taliban member would someone that “It’s raining out” He or she would be wise to look out of the window before believing him.
Walter Sieruk says
Of course the dishonest and thriving will take away the aid meant to help the poor and destitute people of Afghanistan. The stealing selfish and cruel Taliban are so terribly wicked that not doing so would be out character for them.
Furthermore, this also leads to the the question would be asked “Who are the Taliban ?” The answer is the Taliban warrior Muslim savages who are maliciously brutal cruel dangerous and murderous because the follow as bloody and deadly Qu ‘ran based Islam.
From all the new information gathered sad and reality is that the Taliban had quickly reconquered Afghanistan, The fact that the jihadists of the Taliban base their violent and deadly beliefs behavior entirely on the Qu ‘ran. This does lead to an important question: “Is the Qu ‘ran the Word of God or is it a fabrication of a man. Thus, is the Qu ‘ran the truth or a fiction and a hoax ?”
The jihadists, as those of the Taliban , use many verses from the Qu ‘ran as the main source of justification for their violence, mayhem and murders. As found in For example, 2:191. 4:89. 5:33. 9:5,111,123. 47:4. There, the answer is clearly given on pages 145 through 157 in THE ISLAMIC INVASION by Robert Morey in which he wrote a section on the Quran with its self-contradictions. Just two of the many he cited are the following “The Quran differs on whether a day is a thousand years or fifty thousand years in God’s sight’ and “Who was first to believe? Abraham or Moses [Sura 6:14 versus 7:143]? The above is inconsistent and illogical. Further, Morey wrote about “The fact that Judaism and Christianity broke up into different sects was used in the Quran to prove that they are not of God [Suras 30:20-32. 42:13, 14]. Yet Islam has broken up into many warring sects and therefore cannot be true if the Quran is right.”
Moreover, Morey in his book shows many more contradictions and absurdities in the Qu ‘ran, there are and how Muhammad incorporated extra Biblical and Jewish folklore along with pre-Islamic Arabian myth and parts of Zoroastrian and Hindu stories into the Quran.
Furthermore, the Muslims claim that “the Quran is the direct, literal word of God unmodified in any way by the Prophet who uttered them at the bidding of God.”
In addition , in the book UNVEILING ISLAM by Ergun Mehmet and Eethi Caner has shown that the Quran was modified in the following account on pages 45. “Muhammad felt the need to improve on the words of Allah, since he changed Allah’s wisdom for his own on several occasions. A hadith tells of the nonchalant emendations of Muhammad:’ On a number of occasions he [a scribe] had, with the Prophet’s consent changed the closing words of verses. For example, when the prophet had said ‘God is mighty and wise ‘ Adbollah b. Abi Sarh suggested writing down ‘Knowing and wise’ and the Prophet answered that there was no objection. Having observed a succession of changes of this type, Adbollah renounced Islam on the grounds that revelations, if from God could not be changed at the prompting of a scribe such as himself. After his apostasy he went to Mecca and joined the Qorayshites.’ Other writers reveal that later Muhammad and his people did go war with the Qorayshites and he personally killed Abdollah. Obviously Abdollah knew too much and Muhammad wanted Abdollah’s knowledge to die with him.”
In conclusion, the Qu ‘ran is not only a fiction, it’s also a hoax. therefore the foundation of the Taliban is a hoax.

Taliban Already Seizing ‘Humanitarian Aid’
……………..
Just appalling. But this is exactly what we supposed would happen.
Infidel says
I used to be supportive of sending humanitarian aid – in kind (no money, since money is fungible), but this incident has convinced me otherwise!

I take your point, Infidel–but Muslim thugs ruin most humanitarian efforts.
OLD GUY says
We need to STOP supporting these muslim/islamic countries with foreign aid and business dealings. All we are doing is supporting these crimes against humanity. We’ve been dumping billions of our tax dollars towards helping people who never see the aid. Instead we are supporting the regimes that keep their own people in poverty while they live lavish life styles supported by our money. On top of that our country sells arms to these same regimes to help them keep control over their citizens. Something is rotten!

Kepha says
Humanitarian aid–w way the West subsidizes kleptocracies worldwide.
Kepha says
Foreign Aid seems to be a good way to get people to hate you. I understand they’re burning Chinese shops in the Solomon Islands after being given lots of aid, and Africa is beginning to hate them, too. We Americans are cordially hated by the entire European intelligentsia or having made it impossible for them to live and work under their idol Stalin. Our largesse to Iran meant their hatred. Small programs for specifically targeted needs in a handful of countries you can trust should be all. Otherwise, ease up a bit on your own taxpayers and force the leaders of various countries to start a bit of building of their own economies.
In the early 1990’s, the meme was going around the diplomatic circuit that the Cold War was over and the losers were India and most of Africa. Since then, India has begun to emerge economically. But, several economists, beginning with Peter Bauer years ago have noted that aid to Africa had fostered political cultures of dependency and corruption.
The Taliban provided shelter and aid to Qaida and groups like it. Their strength has always been the Islamic bigotry of most of the Afghan population. If they try blackmail of the “give us aid or we’ll send terrorists” sort of blackmail, just promise them that they can expect the test of something unpleasant over one of their cities–or the home village of one of their leaders.
gravenimage says
Kepha, this is the Solomon Islands is both ugly and bizarre. The attack on Chinatown was supposd to be to protest the government to end diplomatic ties with Taiwan and develop links to Communist China.
But most of these independent shopkeepers are apt to have more links with Taiwan than with Communist China. This murderous savagery is pretty irrational as well as ugly.
I agree with the protest–but the methods? Not so much…
Ppaul says
Muslims often say that they consider all Muslims worldwide to be brothers and sisters and will riot as a result of perceived or real insults against them worldwide: so I ask all the muslim nations to provide the aid to their brothers and sisters in Afghanistan, rather than demanding the western christian nations to provide such aid. What is Saudi Arabia and the other oil rich gulf states doing to send food to the starving? This question needs to be answered.
