“When you meet the unbelievers, strike the necks…” (Qur’an 47:4)
“Dozens of protesters, 12 police dead in Kazakhstan protests,” by Jim Hentz, Associated Press, January 6, 2022 (thanks to The Religion of Peace):
MOSCOW — Security forces in Kazakhstan killed dozens of protesters and 12 police officers died in an eruption of violence that saw demonstrators storm government buildings and set them on fire, authorities said Thursday.
One police officer was found beheaded in the unrest, which poses a growing challenge to authoritarian rule in the former Soviet republic.
Despite the severe response by authorities, protesters took to the streets again Thursday in the country’s largest city, Almaty, a day after breaking into the presidential residence and the mayor’s office there.
Police were also out in force, including in the capital of Nur-Sultan, which was reported quiet, and a Russian-led force of peacekeeping troops was on its way….

Matters in Kazakhstan seem unclear to me. Russia is contending that such unrest is due to Western influence but some information I’ve come across has made me think it is due to nativist Muslim insurgency activists who don’t like the fact that Kazakhstan just isn’t Muslim enough and that some 23-24% of Kazakhstan (mostly Russian Orthodox) is a Christian element way too large. What is really going on? Anybody?

The current crisis is borne of oil prices skyrocketing – this in a country that’s oil rich and its #1 export is oil. Sounds like a Venezuela story. Not surprising when one considers that until some years ago, it was run by the same guy who ran it during Soviet times, and where the Communist party was there in all but name. Oh, and remember in 1991, when it was for 15 days the only republic remaining within the Soviet Union – all other republics, including Russia, had bolted
The demographic picture you painted is something that the Kazakh government has been trying to pull off. The Northern Steppes of that country is like Crimea – mainly Russian, and the Kazakh government has been trying to Kazakhify that part for most of history, like having the capital there. However, they’ve been doing it surreptitiously enough to not attract Putin’s attention like in Crimea or South Ossetia. Note that China claims that all of Kazakhstan belongs to it, and Turkey has been rekindling Turkic pan-nationalism and Kazakhstan is a member of the 5 country ‘Turkic council’, which has Turkey, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan and most recently Uzbekistan in it. So unlike in Ukraine, Putin already has 2 rivals courting Kazakhstan
Right now, Russia has sent in peacekeeping troops to prop up the regime, and I would fully support them if Putin took the opportunity to reclaim the Russian parts of the country for Russia. Note that historically, that part of the country in pre-Soviet times wasn’t a part of Turkistan: the Soviets had a policy of attaching Russian territory to other republics to try and dilute Russian nationalism, which was the biggest challenge to Soviet globalist ‘World Revolution’. Which is how Ukraine got Crimea and Kazakhstan got the Kazakh Steppes. Otherwise, if you look at a map of Central Asia in medieval times, Turkistan included only the southern part of that country

I suspected if any commenter could provide me a solid and informed explanation about current matters in Kazakhstan it would be you, Infidel. Thank you. And I didn’t know until now that China claims all of said country.

Sometimes, I think he should be a “contributor” to these pages, so the rest of us could be better informed.
The university professor I had who was a former Special Agent with the FBI went to one of those “stans” to instruct the pd on hostage negotiation procedures. Can’t recall which stan it was, but it seems like this one.
Any country full of mozlums is a troubled country.

Wellington,
100% correct about Infidel – he’s one incredibly well-informed guy.
I know my limitations, and only comment when I know the subject matter and have something to add.

I second the above, Infidel.
You are a wealth of information.

Thanks, Wellington, Lincoln, Somehistory and GreekEmpress
Actually, for this topic – anything Turk, SAFI is also incredibly well informed

Infidel,
You have shown that you know a lot about a variety of subjects discussed here.

I agree–Infidel is a font of information, especially regarding Asia. Thanks again.
Yes, Kazakhstan is authoritarian, no doubt–and generally I would be sympathetic to demonstrations against the regime. But *beheading police* is not “demonstrating”, and all too many opponents of the regime seem to be bent on imposing Shari’ah–the country is 72% Muslim. My impression is that this is a situation somewhat similar to that of Iran under the Shah–not good, but capable of becoming *much worse*.
Walter Sieruk says
Those murderous Muslims who beheading that police officer and the other lawless ruffians , be they all Muslims are not, aren’t the “good guys” but but death inflecting villain.
The Bible informs it’s reader the a murderer “will not inherit the kingdom of God”. Galatians 5:21. [N.K.J.V.]
Furthermore, In the last book of the Bible in gives a list of all those who will “have their part in the lake of fire which burns with fire and brimstone..” one on those mentioned on that list are “murderers”
Furthermore, in Romans 13;1-4 in teach that genuine government authorities are actually part of the ordinance of God and to resist them to to resist the ordinance of God .Therefore they who do so “will bring judgement o themselves.”
Those wicked terrible men in this case, did something even worse than resist police officers . They literally murdered them.
mortimer says
They obviously condemned the policeman as a kafir and then finished him off following the decrees of Allah in the Koran.

Yes–since the officer was defending a leader who has not imposed Islamic law he was fair game for Jihad murder, as though he was an Infidel (even though stitistically he was probably Muslim himself, he wasn’t Muslim *enough*). The same is true of the president, Tokayev.

Kazakhstan: Muslims behead police officer amid nationwide protests
………………
So much for the idea that Kazakhstan and the rest of the ‘Stans are “moderater”…
Infidel says
That was probably true 30 years ago, when Communism just ended, but the idea that nothing has happened b/w then and now to make the region more islamic is too big an assumption
