New in PJ Media:
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Ketel One) is thrilled that Old Joe Biden’s handlers have imposed sanctions on Russia, and never one to miss an opportunity, she seized the moment to prop up the Democrats’ failing narrative about Donald Trump’s victory in the 2016 presidential election: “It’s stunning to see in this day and age a tyrant roll into a country,” Pelosi intoned with all the faux-moral indignation and self-righteousness she could muster, adding: “This is the same tyrant who attacked our democracy in 2016.” Well, no. Putin is hardly a poster boy for electoral probity, but the claim that he manipulated the 2016 election in order to put Donald Trump in power has been discredited as thoroughly as any claim can be — except, of course, amid the tangle and confusion of Pelosi’s synapses.
Pelosi also suggested that World War III was in the offing, likening Putin to Hitler and his incursion in Ukraine to the National Socialist expansionism that led to World War II: “This, my friends, is our moment. This is the Sudetenland.” Hitler demanded Czechoslovakia’s Sudetenland in 1938 and received it from appeasers led by British prime minister Neville Chamberlain, before turning to Poland, where his invasion touched off World War II. Pelosi continued: “That’s what people were saying. You cannot ignore what Putin is doing. Nobody, of course, is ignoring it. But you cannot take it any lighter than what it is — a total assault on democracy.”
World War III may indeed be in the offing, for Putin sees the weakness and fecklessness of the Biden administration and clearly saw that this was the time to act and claim the Russian-majority portions of eastern Ukraine and maybe more as well. It is ironic, and cuts directly against Pelosi’s narrative, that Putin is moving while Biden is president after not making a move during the four years of the Trump administration.
Trump himself said of Putin Tuesday: “I think he sees this opportunity. I knew that he always wanted Ukraine. I used to talk to him about it. I said, ‘You can’t do it. You’re not gonna do it.’ But I could see that he wanted it. I used to ask him. We used to talk about it at length.” He added: “If properly handled, there was absolutely no reason that the situation currently happening in Ukraine should have happened at all.”
This is all a far cry from what Biden’s handlers sold us about Old Joe. “Vladimir Putin doesn’t want me to be President,” Biden’s Twitter account boasted on Feb. 21, 2020. “He doesn’t want me to be our nominee. If you’re wondering why — it’s because I’m the only person in this field who’s ever gone toe-to-toe with him.”
There is more. Read the rest here.

It’s useful to get below the level of excessive rhetoric and accusations to the actual motives and results. The talking heads are screaming, “he’s insane”, and of course, there is the powerless rantings of Pelosi looking for a scapegoat.
Putin is very calculating and not concerned about being labeled as evil. Much like Trudeau he considers the ends justify the means and his ends are:
1. Turning Ukraine into Russia’s buffer state instead of the West’s (possible) NATO state.
2. Total control over the existing gas pipeline.
3. Russian control and defense of the Donbas region
4. Open corridor from Russia to Crimea and its naval base.
5. Crippling the Ukraine economy.
Sadly the West has few options. Sanctions on a nation that has learned to survive under former sanctions and has a complete internal economy will not work. Russians still know how to manufacture and China won’t join in sanctions – and China will buy every drop of oil it can get.
The US and EU cannot fight a hot war with Russia because the cost is higher than the populations are willing to pay. Those who have posted on this site are probably aware that most of the Biden supporters will never put their own lives at risk for this (or any) nation.
For Putin, the election of Biden was likely the “tell” that the US was no longer willing to fight an unlimited war.
So now Putin responds to economic threats with the shocking statement that he is prepared to go as far as necessary if any group or nation interferes. Horrific. The economic bluff has been called.
It’s difficult to determine if governments, during escalation, will mis-step. Barring direct outside military intervention, Ukraine and Russia will come to their own settlement.
Millitary Facts:
Active military – Ukraine:255,000, Russia:1,154,000
Fighter Aircraft – Ukraine:70, Russia:792
Total Aircraft – Ukraine:326, Russia:5,552
Tanks – Ukraine:2,100, Russia:12,270
Armored Vehicles – Ukraine:6,990, Russia:26,830
Artillery – Ukraine:3,721 Russia:18,497
Submarines – Ukraine:0, Russia:59
The end results seem obvious but we can only guess at the future. It always has surprises.
One thing we will learn is how much Democrat leadership is willing to spend of other people’s lives and means.

The military numbers you provided above are Russia’s total – everywhere from Kaliningrad to the Bering Sea. Of course, they’ve moved the bulk of their troops to Ukraine, since they have no threats from North Korea, China, Mongolia, Kazakhstan or even Georgia
I think that Putin wants to re-annex the 2 countries that Russians in general think of as a part of their own – Belarus and Ukraine, and the reason they haven’t attached Belarus as yet was so that they could get Ukraine first and then re-unite Russia, Ukraine and Belarus. The other thing Russia may be trying to do is to make both Ukraine and Belarus client states. It worked well for them until 2014, when Ukraine had Yanukovich and Belarus had (and still has) Lukashenko, so that may be what they are after. Getting Belarus gave Russia a bridge to Kaliningrad, while Crimea is easily attached to mainland Russia across the Kerch Strait: it’s Mariupol that’s cut off from the Black Sea by Russia
It would also put all Ukrainian oil and gas under Russian control, and cut off Europe’s options of having a gas pipeline from Ukraine to Central or Western Europe, instead of getting oil and gas from Russia
The biggest debacle in all this is Russia and China coming together, which is a deadlier combination than the WWII combination of Germany and Japan
Westman says
I respect your clear thinking, Infidel.
Those totals are also Ukraine’s total figures. Russia claims it can raise 34 million soldiers, if necessary.
I hadn’t considered Ukrainian energy production. Thanks for pointing it out.
I can’t decide whether to be sadly bemused or appalled by the rhetoric coming from government, “experts”, and talking heads. It just makes them seem more feeble like the great wannabe jihadists and their boasts.

Also, Belarus already acts like a sattelite of Russia’s. Ukraine is more independent.
Infidel says
Yeah, Belarus is anything but an independent entity. Ukraine was pretty much like that when Yanukovich was president

pelosi, in her speech, described putin as wanting “Hungary”…and then proceeded to list Poland and other nations without saying “Ukraine”…at least in the clip provided, she did not mention the country russia is threatening and invading.
pelosi is an old fool, a tool and a witch. And most of all, a liar.
Infidel says
Hungary, while a part of NATO, has been supportive of Russia the last several weeks. People here may be fans of Orban, but Hungary is the least reliable Western ally when it comes to not just Turkey, but also the likes of China and Russia

No surprise here Somehistory, rather than speak out against evil, he usually chooses to side with evil.
somehistory says
That’s all too true, John.
By the way, I did read what you wrote about having a good diet in order to stay healthy. I try getting veggies…had mostly veggies in my growing up diet, not much meat in those days…
When I was a kid, we lived on a farm and had fresh from there or a garden every day. Now, it’s harder due to having to shop for things and then try to keep them “fresh” longer.
I was told by a doctor a few years ago while having an mri, of blood vessels, that I am “very healthy.”
When first dx’d with the mgus, there was not much about it online. One thing it said was “no symptoms,” but there really are symptoms, several in fact. I’m supposed to go every six months for tests to see its progress, but I don’t. They can’t do anything to stop it from progressing, so why should I bother going, I ask myself.
Anyway, thank you for your helpful suggestions and I will keep trying to eat right.

Thanks for your reply Somehistory, and for the previous information you gave me about the green tea. Like I said before I do remember reading about that tea 30 years ago, but it was something that went to the back of my mind. So I’m going to order some on line tonight.
You were so lucky to have lived on a farm, my cousin was a farmer and when I was a child he would take me with him to the farm. I spent all my summer holidays on the farm, I have so many beautiful memories of those days.
Take care Somehistory, and keep eating healthy.
somehistory says
Thank you, John
Working on the farm was very hard, esp as a little kid getting up at 4 to pick strawberries in the cold., or in the heat of summer dropping pepper plants for my father, hoeing cucumbers, etc.
But, looking back, I do feel that it was a good thing to be able to work hard and eat well for many years of my life. It’s more difficult to do either, now. The good beginnings helped me then and keep me going now.
I’m glad that you have many good memories from your farm visits.
I hope the green tea helps. I know it does me. I can tell a difference if I run out or get too ill to even steep tea for a few days.
I will keep trying to eat right and thanks again.

The plastic faced geriatric fool should put together battalions of lgbt, blm, antifa, greens, feminists, capitol police, pink haired college professors, bail jumpers and crack heads to go over there and confront the Russians.
The democrat media and the democrat party are having a spastic fit because we are not on board with their craziness.

Pelosi Uses Ukraine Crisis to Push Failed Democrat Russian Collusion Narrative
…………
So tiresome. Also note that Putin did not invade Ukraine during the Trump administration, despite this supposed “collusion”. Instead. Putin waited for a weak president like Biden.
Wellington says
Quite true, gravenimage, but it will still be lost on the vast majority of those who were foolish enough to vote for Biden (real votes and not all the fake votes). This would include RINOs like Kasich and Whitman. Hatred of Trump and believing in stupid ideas took precedence over re-electing a man who would have seen no incursion into Ukraine were he still President.
And so thank you all you rubes who actually did vote for Biden. Shame on you forever. You sicken me.
gravenimage says
Grimly true, Wellington.
OLD GUY says
Nancy Pelosi what a waste of oxygen. Why anyone votes for this piece of TRASH is beyond comprehension. She is the worst of what a public, elected office holder should be.
