Turkey has been challenging Greece’s sovereignty for some time, bullying Greece with provocative statements and threats of war.
Turkey is an Islamic country with a president who has ambitions of a revived Ottoman Empire. Turkey should not be in NATO.
In December, Turkey threatened Greece, warning that Greece could lose sovereignty of the Aegean islands. Last month, Turkey’s Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu accused Greece of ‘”sponsoring terrorists,” and warned that “they will pay a heavy price.” A week prior to that, Joe Biden’s handlers ditched Greece’s EastMed pipeline project to ship Israeli gas to Europe in order to appease Turkey, which further emboldened the Turks.
Only three weeks ago, Greek City Times reported that Turkey violated Greek airspace 60 times in a single day.
Now that the world is focused on the Russian invasion of Ukraine, woe be unto Greece. Turkey is taking full advantage, again violating Greece’s sovereignty. Note the persistent harassment and intimidation tactics routinely used by Turkey against Greece.
A global shift is happening swiftly in the absence of America. Respect for its figurehead president Joe Biden is in short supply.
“Turkish fighter jets fly over Greek islets,” Ekathimerini, February 24, 2022:
A pair of Turkish F-16 jets flew over the islets of Anthropofagi and Makronisi in the eastern Aegean on Thursday morning…
Three minutes after 10 a.m., a second pair of fighter jets flew over the sea islets…

I hate to suggest this, but given that Turkey is right now allied w/ Ukraine, Greece should reach out to Russia. They’re not gonna be supported by NATO, despite being a member
Which is another reason I’d like to see NATO ended, rather than expanded. There is no mechanism to kick Turkey out of NATO
raja says
Infidel,
Yes, marriages of convenience must have limited shelf life. Turkey should have never been added to NATO. Islam has punched holes in anything UN, that includes NATO through evil Turkey.
Infidel says
The worst thing is that NATO doesn’t even have a mechanism of expelling anybody, otherwise what Turkey helped Azerbaijan do to Armenia would have been sanctionable under NATO
Frank Anderson says
I suggest it is much more likely the current occupant of the White House is regarded with disregard and contempt instead of mere absence of respect. Every action taken since taking office has weakened and compromised the US.
Keith O says
Quite a few of the people I’ve spoken with here in Australia regard Biden as a pathetic old man who should not be in charge of a garage sale let alone an entire nation.
James Lincoln says
Sounds about right, Keith O.
About the only thing that Biden could handle would be ringing the bell for the Salvation Army.
But his heart wouldn’t be in it.
raja says
Keith O,
I agree with you completely. This also proves that how a bot president can be installed by ex-presidents like Clinton and Barrack Obama and a pol party.
Eternal vigilance is the need of the hour whether in US or any corner of the world.

I have been expecting something like this to take place. Typical Erdogan move to take advantage while everybody is focused on Ukraine. It wouldn’t surprise me if he pulls something on Cyprus, provokes Greece or Armenia. There’s a lot of bad actors in this play, and he’s one of them.

Yes–very disturbing, GreekEmpress.

Turkey violates Greek airspace with F-16 aircraft as world focuses on Ukraine
…………
I’ve been worried about China, North Korea, and Iran following the Russia model of unprovoked aggression, and somehow didn’t remember the same threat from Turkey.
I’m sure thugs all over the world are closely watching what is going on in Ukraine and deciding whether they can do the same.
Weakness in the West tends to enable this. Glad that Putin has run into more resistance than he bargained for in Ukraine, though.
Infidel says
All this is reminding me of WWII. After Poland fell, the Soviets invaded Finland, so that when Germany started Operation Barbarossa, Finland too understandably joined them. We may end up w/ a Moscow-Beijing-Ankara axis
Here, Turkey is on the right side of things by opposing Russia, making it politically harder for leaders in the West to oppose them when it comes to Greece. Incidentally, Saudi Arabia – which considers Turkey (aside from Iran) its leading threat, is now on Russia’s side on this. Although I think they are thankful to Russia for shooting up oil prices, and therefore helping them too buy time in re-architecting their economy
Frank Anderson says
We are all entitled to an opinion, or even several. I think counting Turkey as a reliable ally to Ukraine OR NATO is as totally delusional as expecting China to use its “good offices” to discourage Putin from his invasion. I cannot help noticing that Russia, China and Iran are lumped together in news programs as threats, but NO mention is made of North Korea, which is run by a multi-generational group of madmen.
If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, swims like a duck, and looks like a duck, it is probably not an eagle. Remember the effort made by France to draw Italy into an anti-Nazi alliance. How did that work out?
Infidel says
Honestly, South Korea is strong enough to defend itself from the North, and there is no neighbor of Iran’s that is helpless: Saudi Arabia, Emirates and Bahrein are all pretty well armed, while Kuwait and Qatar make up in grovelling what they lack in power
No, the real threats are Russia, China and Turkey. Iran and North Korea – bad as they are – don’t belong in the same club
gravenimage says
Yes–this emboldens all aggressive thugs.

With a dim-wit in the white house all the crazy are going nuts. Joe has got to go, but having camel in charge is scary or worse yet N.P. We have TV sit com actors running the country rather than actual leaders.
