Guspardi Gaus says that “Nasi Padang with various menus is a culinary product from Minangkabau and is guaranteed to be a halal food.” He complains that “even in the statement on Babiambo’s Instagram account, he proudly stated that it was the first non-halal desert food in Indonesia.” But if the food is clearly announced to be non-halal, the possibility of Muslims assuming it is halal is minimized. So what’s the problem? It’s an “insult,” as virtually anything can be. And so he is demanding that the restaurant be closed.
“Rice Padang Creations Made From Pork Are Considered Insulting To Minang Identity, West Sumatra Legislators Ask Babiambo Restaurant To Be Closed,” VOI, June 10, 2022:
JAKARTA – Member of the Indonesian House of Representatives from the PAN faction, Guspardi Gaus, admitted that he was surprised by the emergence of restaurants selling Minangkabau specialties or non-halal Padang rice.
According to information received, the restaurant, which serves a variety of Padang specialties made from pork, is located in Kelapa Gading Timur, North Jakarta.
The restaurant, named Babiambo, is currently busy on social media. The owner also promotes through an online delivery platform where various non-halal Minang dishes are clearly displayed, grilled pork rice, pork rendang rice, pork curry, babiambo rice rames and other menus.
“Even in the statement on Babiambo’s Instagram account, he proudly stated that it was the first non-halal desert food in Indonesia,” said Guspardi in his statement to reporters, Friday, June 10.
According to the Legislator for the West Sumatra II electoral district, Nasi Padang with various menus is a culinary product from Minangkabau and is guaranteed to be a halal food. Guspardi was furious with the actions of the restaurant owner who brought Padang rice with pork on the menu. According to him, this should not be allowed…
According to him, the use of the non-halal name Padang rice menu is clearly an insult and hurts the feelings of the Minang community, both in the realm and overseas….
Therefore, the member of Commission II of the DPR asked the restaurant owner to apologize for his impudence in using Minang’s name and identity with a menu of pork and other non-halal foods. He also urged restaurant owners to close their businesses immediately.
“The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is also expected to revoke the business license that uses Babiambo’s name. The Ministry of Information and Information (Kemenkominfo) also acts by blocking all Babiambo’s social media accounts, before causing chaos and chaos,” said Guspardi.

Islam is an honor/shame culture, so any perceived slight to Islam must be punished in order to establish the ‘honor’ of Islam.
This is a perfect example of Islamic supremacism.
No Muslim is harmed by a clearly identified non-halal restaurant. Muslim should simply avoid it if they choose to be 100% halal. If not, they have the freedom to eat pork if they like that.
Islam shows how absurd it all is.

Mortimer, The way islamists bitch and complain about every little thing they don’t like in an attempt to control things reminds me of the people who sit in front of the TV and complain about some TV show being “offensive” all the while with the remote control in their paws.
They don’t have to watch, but it gives them something to complain about. Sound familiar????
mgoldberg says
The problem is that no one will dare enumerate how absurd the muslim complain is and how insulting they are to non muslims. One more time- glatt kosher, a high standard to meet, for kosher eating demands that the owners are certified and regularly that their food is so prepared and it’s the diners who will determine the desireability of the menu items whether the restaurant flourishes or not. But the idea of dramatic insults because a non kosher place sells non kosher items is idiotic, and and insult to those who enjoy eating such foods. And that is what needs to take place here and in all such instances…. humiliating these halal fascists who insist that all non halal is dirty and offensive. It is no such thing. Shoving an edict like these bozo’s are doing to this restaurant is an insult and offensive and should be so demonstrated and scolded for such ideas. Islam is neither tolerant nor peaceful and this once again is just the tip of a very large iceberg.

in the brains of mozlums, no one has any right to anything that mozlums don’t like. If the business pays taxes, they should be represented by some infidels who appreciate the tastiness of pork.

Why is there a Muslim politician in the Philippines, a Christian nation?

Hallal is the worst type of treatment given to an animal where it maximizes the pain and suffering. Besides, most of the animals under islamic custody are sexually violated by mohammadeans before getting slaughtered. So, don’t eat any halal meat.
Hallala is worst type of treatment given to a woman where it maximizes humiliation and suffering.
Both Hallal and Halala need to be banned.
Infidel says
Halal doesn’t just apply to meat: it applies to all sorts of food. In a clear case of ‘bida’ (innovation), muslims have come out w/ a new definition of halal that requires muslims to be employed in every stage of the supply chain of a product in order for it to receive a halal certification. Never mind that muslims weren’t the ones that came up w/ the concept of supply-chains
In India, there was a major controversy over a whole range of traditional Indian products suddenly get halal-certified: it was followed by a call for a boycott of all these products. That’s what needs to happen: we need to boycott halal so that producers are compelled to maintain separate product lines for muslims and non-muslims, as opposed to islamizing the common supply chain for everyone. It’s what Malaysia does in their ‘bhumiputra’ system

Thank you for the explanation. Vey informative.

I just returned from neighboring Singapore a few days ago, and while I was there, I knew it would be tricky to get non-halal meats, particularly chicken (which Malaysia has now stopped exporting to Singapore). So every day that I could pick a pork dish, I did, and ensured that my diet was halal-free

Indonesia: Muslim legislator enraged over ‘insulting’ non-halal cuisine, demands restaurant be closed
…………..
What crap. If it is clearly identified as non-Halal, then it is easy for those who keep Halal to pick something else–just as an observant Jew could avoid similarly labeled non-Kosher food, or a Vegan non-vegetarian food.
But of course this is not really about people being able to easily keep to their diets–this is about imposing Islamic diktats on *everyone*, even though 15% of Indonesians are not Muslim.

The owner of Babiambo has been forced to apologize:

It looks as though his restaurant has been shut down.
Note that he issued this apology *at a police station*–yeah, nothing disturbing about that…sarc/off

Halal is one way to collect money? They certify food as halal and money generated by Halal is used to promote Islam , building of Mosques and helping Muslims only. Over 96% halal in West is by eaten by non Muslims and hence 96% revenue is by non Muslims to help Muslims??
Beneath the Veil of Consciousness says
+1Devasur. That’s the Islamic mindset in a nutshell. They are like spoiled, petulant, manipulative children who always have to have it their way. I pity Western countries as they turn themselves into pretzels trying to please these, as the movie title describes them, “Children of the Corn.”
