“They threatened us, saying that they would not let us live in the village … But we are not afraid. We will continue to stay here.”
It’s the same story the world over, in so many different contexts, and yet international authorities resolutely fail to see the common thread.
“Historic Church Service in Mardin, Turkey, Marred by Attack on Christian Family,” Barnabas Fund, June 13, 2022:
A Christian family were attacked in a village in Mardin province, south-eastern Turkey, shortly before a church service on Sunday, June 5.
The service in Mor Gevargis Assyrian Church, Brahîmîye village, was the first held in the building in almost 100 years, after renovation work which began in 2015.
The Yilmaz family – the only Assyrian family who live in the village – were attacked at their home by a group of around 50 Muslims. The family were at the time entertaining visiting clergy who had come to officiate at the service.
The attackers were led by a Muslim family with whom the Yilmaz family have had a long-standing dispute over land.
The mob attacked the home with stones, sticks and other weapons. They then set fire to wheat being grown by the Yilmaz family. None of the family were injured, and the fire was eventually extinguished after witnesses alerted the police.
“They threatened us,” said Cengiz Yilmaz, “saying that they would not let us live in the village … But we are not afraid. We will continue to stay here.” He accused the attackers of specifically choosing the day of the church ceremony to re-open the land dispute….

This entire story make me cringe inside, not only because of the story it tells but also because it keeps repeating the family “were” attacked. I know English is spoken a bit differently where I live but since the word “family” is singular the singular verb “was” should be used. “Were” is the verb to use when speaking of “families,” i.e., more than one family. Also, “none” is also singular and “was” is the correct verb to use with it. Think of “none’ as being “not one” and that may help.
I just had to get that off my chest. Sometimes small matters bother me the most. Sorry about that and I know I have and will make my own grammatical errors in the future but some errors bother me more than others. I’m really bad about when and when not to use a comma. And, yes, we all eventually go crazy in our own way. I’m get a little closer every day.
CogitoErgoSum says
I’m sure you will see some of my errors already so I will rest my case and move on.

These things also bother me. I spent so many years in school and being graded on such things makes one serious about keeping to the rules of grammar.
The “if I would have” instead of “If I had,” and the way people say and write, “if I were you”…are cringeworthy to me.
So, I’m all okay with your comment.

CogitoErgoSum, I am generally a stickler about grammar–but I think that the story here is of greater import than a rather minor grammatical error–especially since, as you note, this story was likely translated into English.
CogitoErgoSum says
I suppose that could apply to language in any circumstance. What we have to say to each other is more important than the way we say it. Signals with our hands, grunts and grimaces, kicks and slaps and even a club over the head can communicate a message. So okay, I won’t argue with you about it.
gravenimage says
CogitoErgoSum, you know I am not championing poor grammar, let alone “communicating” via crude violence–and I think you know this.
You may decide that The Barnabas Fund in the enemy here, but I still think the main problem is the violent Muslim mob.
We can respectfully disagree here.

This is despicable. They want the land and if the Christians are dead, they can move right in and take it. The government surely won’t stop them.
Fitna says
The really awful part is that they’re attacked by Muslims in a Muslim country.
So who does one turn to for real justice when one religious group attacks another? This is like a group of Nazis attacking Jews and hoping the Nazi authorities will take their side.
This is the same situation non-Muslim minorities face in every Muslim-dominated country. They get attacked, daughters kidnapped, raped, forced to convert to Islam, or falsely accused of blasphemy, meanwhile the scumbag Muslim authorities take the side of the Muslim perpetrators.
That war is lost, once the Muslims have your country, then the only rational solution is to flee the country or commit suicide if you can’t leave, or convert to Islam, because what the Muslims will do to you will likely be far worse.
Incidentally even if you do convert to Islam, they won’t likely leave you alone. They’ll ask you to prove your faith by being a martyr. Islam needs to be eliminated.
somehistory says
It must be the worst possible circumstance…to be non mozlum is necessary for many, knowing the evil that islam is…to live in a mozlum dominated/run/controlled country, knowing that they want infidels dead and are more than willing to see that death comes.
Fitna says
Agreed SH, it really is the worst situation to find oneself in for an infidel/non-Muslim.
Most of them are not really aware the danger they’re in which is why they stay in those countries. Perhaps they might have some “moderate” Muslim friends who give them a false sense of security.
But it’s a bit like being in prison, you’re surrounded by dangerous monsters. Maybe 99/100 will leave you alone, but it just takes one.
It’s no wonder than once Muslims become a majority in any nation, they quickly go from 50% Islamic to nearly 100% within a few generations because the persecution of minorities is relentless.
The Muslims in the West appear to be more “civilized” but they carried the same mind-virus their brethren are afflicted with. Given time and once they grow their numbers, they will do the exact same thing to us, because it is the ideology that is the true evil here, which creates evil followers.
somehistory says
that is what happened in Egypt, is happening in India and some countries seem bent on making it happen, as the U.K. and now even the U.S. It seems unreal at times, but then, open this website on any page, any thread and reality hits like a thunderclap and lightening strike. I wish it wasn’t so, but wishing sometimes goes unfulfilled.
Fitna says
Indeed, it’s pretty discouraging hearing of the massive suffering of individuals who happened to piss off the Muslim mob, sometimes just for existing and not being one of them. Sometimes it is their own they attack.
What we see is also the tip of the iceberg. The 1400 yr history of jihad is drenched in the blood of hundreds of millions of innocents, mostly in places like India and the mideast.
It boggles the mind and it’s almost hard to believe, except that it’s well-recorded information.
In the West we speak about the evils of Nazism/Fascism, but we’re not taught about the history of Islamic jihads which kill 20-30 times more humans than Nazism did.
And to this day we’re still bowing to this evil death cult, hoping it’ll spare us, but we’re next in line. People are ignoring the signs, but once the Muslim hordes get activated for jihad, only then people will realize the evil we’ve invited onto our lands.
All the more reason for non-Muslims in the West to put aside their differences and work to defeat Islam here, our survival is at stake.

Yes–horrifying, Fitna and Somehistory. In fact, some Infidels in the Muslim world who report such crimes are then further victimized by the authorities.
Fitna says
Absolutely Graven, they don’t want the real truth getting out. This is why they’re willing to burn embassies and slaughter journalists who dare to speak out about it. They’re sending a message to all of us.
But if we keep silent, it will only allow their power to grow. The West needs to step up and offer full protection to public individuals that criticize Islam…rather to allow them to pick everyone off one by one.
We should also only offer asylum to people who are genuinely trying to escape the Islamic world and send back the unwanted Muslim population that’s invaded our nations.

Agreed, Fitna.

It’s the height of injustice that the Anatolian ‘RUM’ (or ‘Romans’ or ‘Rhomaioi’) cannot live in their ancestral homeland unmolested by Muslim fanatics.
The descendants of the Roman Empire still live in Turkey, and they have lived there from time immemorial as the indigenous people of the region.
The Aramaic-speaking Assyrians are the first nation to adopt Christianity, then followed by the Armenians and Egyptians. The Assyrians have been the MOST PERSECUTED GROUP OF CHRISTIANS in history. This has led to a pope calling the Assyrians ‘THE MARTYR CHURCH’.
Would that Pope Francis had read the history of the Assyrian Christians … he would never again try to convince anyone that Islam is ‘benign’. Islam is aggressive and violent towards the kufaar by doctrine.
Koran 48.29 – “Muhammad is the messenger of Allah
Those with him are VIOLENT (ashiddaa’) against the unbelievers (kufaar),
Compassionate amongst themselves.” – (Richard Bell’s translation)

Rhomaioi are the rightful residents of Anatolia.
Turks are just squatters.

Turkey: Just before historic church reopens, mob of 50 Muslims attacks Christian family
………………………………………….
Who can be surprised by this barbarism?
More:
The service in Mor Gevargis Assyrian Church, Brahîmîye village, was the first held in the building in almost 100 years, after renovation work which began in 2015.
………………………………………….
Assyrian Christians were also targeted during the Armenian Genocide. I am not surprised that there is only one surviving Christian family in this village.
And note they were attacked by *50* Muslims–this is not just a few bad apples.
More:
The attackers were led by a Muslim family with whom the Yilmaz family have had a long-standing dispute over land.
………………………………………….
This is *very* common in Dar-al-Islam–Muslims want an Infidel’s land, property, business, or even daughters, and enables this by physical attacks and false claims of “blasphemy”.
God, I hate Islam.

Sadly this islamic sick idea of a religion is spreading all over the world. The migration invasion of Islam/muslims is vary dangerous and an intentional plan to dominate the countries they are entering.
