“Iran and Turkey signed preliminary agreements covering investment, diplomacy, media and business, among other fields, and pledged to triple bilateral trade, to $30 billion….”
Why is Turkey still in NATO?
“Putin holds talks in Tehran with leaders of Iran, Turkey,” Associated Press, July 19, 2022:
TEHRAN, Iran — Russian President Vladimir Putin held meetings Tuesday in Iran, seeking to deepen ties with regional heavyweights as part of Moscow’s challenge to the United States and Europe amid its grinding campaign in Ukraine.
In only his second trip abroad since Russian tanks rolled into its neighbor in February, Putin met Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on pressing issues facing the region, including the conflict in Syria and a U.N.-backed proposal to resume exports of Ukrainian grain to ease the global food crisis.
As the West heaps sanctions on Russia and the costly campaign drags on, Putin is seeking to bolster ties with Tehran, a fellow target of severe U.S. sanctions and a potential military and trade partner. In recent weeks, Russian officials visited an airfield in central Iran at least twice to review Tehran’s weapons-capable drones for possible use in Ukraine, the White House has alleged.
Iran rolled out a long red carpet for Putin at Tehran’s Mehrabad airport, where Iranian Oil Minister Javad Owji greeted him warmly before he was whisked into his presidential convoy to the city.
But perhaps most crucially, the Tehran trip offers Putin a chance for a high-stakes meeting with Erdogan, who has sought to help broker talks on a peaceful settlement of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, as well as help negotiations to unblock Ukrainian grain through the Black Sea.
Turkey, a NATO member, has found itself opposite Russia in bloody conflicts in Syria and Libya. It has even sold lethal drones that Ukrainian forces have used to attack Russian troops. But Turkey hasn’t imposed sanctions on the Kremlin, making it a sorely needed partner for Moscow. Grappling with runaway inflation and a rapidly depreciating currency, Turkey also relies on the Russian market.
Speaking to Erdogan at the start of their meeting, Putin thanked him for his mediation to help “move forward” a deal on Ukrainian grain exports. “Not all the issues have been resolved yet, but it’s good that there has been some progress,” Putin added.
Erdogan praised what he described as Russia’s “very, very positive approach” during last week’s grain talks in Istanbul. He voiced hope a deal will be made, and “the result that will emerge will have a positive impact on the whole world.”…
“Our relations are developing at a good pace,” Putin said at the start of the meeting with Raisi, noting that Moscow and Tehran “strengthen their cooperation on international security and contribute significantly to the Syrian settlement.”…

If Turkey were not in NATO, Putin would make a move on Turkey. Russia needs to control the Straits.
Infidel says
I’d be all for the Russians conquering and controlling both the straits and the Sea of Marmara. I’m not one of those who rejoices in the “virtual landlocked” state of Russia

The congress of the SOCIOPATHS. All three men see their country as an empire and themselves as the emperor. All three men are living in a delusional, past-tense, historical psychodrama.
This sort of delusion is unacceptable in the 21st century.
All three need a psychiatrist.

Turkey is at least a tad less in denial. They have foreigners – like the Free Syrian Army, the Libyan GNA, Hamas – to do their bidding. There are some Arab countries, which despite being Arab, are happy to rally behind Ankara – countries like Somalia, Yemen and the Pali Authority. They have the support of non-Arab muslim countries like Pakistan and Malaysia. They have an ethnic alliance w/ 4 of the -stans. In the 21st century, this is the closest thing to the empire the Ottomans had – where all the countries involved are independent, but are happy to accept Turkey as an alternative leader of the ummah

Throw in Xi, the piece of evil shit that runs China, and wants to run the world, and the collection of scum of the earth would be complete. I guess the maggot that runs North Korea and a few other scum, say Pakistan’s leader, would also need to be there as well. It’s all a bit reminiscent of those lovely human beings, Stalin and Hitler, getting cosy with one another many years ago.

Add to that the leaders of Venezuela, Cuba and Nicaragua’s Daniel Ortega – the only leader from the 80s that’s back in power today – and that should complete the pack
tim gallagher says
I’ve heard a bit about the disaster that Venezuela has become because of its socialist government, Infidel. I had no idea that Ortega was back. Here in Australia, we don’t bother all that much with South America I would say, not our part of the world, but concentrate more on Asia, but also Europe and the USA. I have to say that I used to work at an organisation, way back in the 1980s, which had lots of left wing wankers, and they seemed to think Cuba was almost a utopia. I thought back then what wankers they were and haven’t altered my view. I always figured Cuba had to be the usual crap hole that socialist countries are bound to be. Of course, the leaders of all islamic countries could be added to this list of evil political leaders.
Infidel says
Just like ex-muslims open a good window to islam, Cuban emigres open a good window to Communism, especially the way it is in Cuba. I have a book on Che Guevara written by one such guy – Humberto Fontova, who fled Cuba and now lives in New Orleans. He describes all of Che’s activities to a ‘T’, and also reveals how racist the guy was. Had Twitter existed in Che’s era, he would have been canceled today on the basis of some of his statements, had he been dumb enough to publish it
tim gallagher says
Sounds like an interesting book, Infidel. I used to listen to the left wing clowns, who seemed to think Cuba would be a great place to visit, and was amazed at the level of their delusion and idiocy. Fortunately there weren’t many of them. Talk about not having a clue.

Do you know anything about bible prophecy, Walter?
I know the antichrist will come from somewhere in the Middle East, or Europe. When I saw this headline, I went to look at Daniel, and this verse came right to me! Interesting…but might not be anything that fits…
But “horns” in prophecy, has always had the meaning of “countries”.
As for the ten horns, out of this kingdom ten kings shall arise, and another shall arise after them; he shall be different from the former ones, and shall put down three kings.
Daniel 7:24
