“Reforming” Saudi Arabia is cruelly cracking down on its female dissidents more than ever. Saudi Arabia is one of the world’s foremost Sunni countries and a strict Sharia state. In mainstream Islam, women have no rights. They’re seen as inferiors; according to the Quran, women must be fully covered, to prevent themselves from being abused. (Quran 24:31, 33:59). The Saudi male guardianship program is in accordance with the Quran also:
“Men have authority over women because Allah has made the one superior to the other, and because they spend their wealth to maintain them. Good women are obedient. They guard their unseen parts because Allah has guarded them. As for those from whom you fear disobedience, admonish them and send them to beds apart and beat them.” — Qur’an 4:34
The Saudi practice of male guardianship for women continues to oppress and degrade women, contrary to the occasional optics. The treatment of Salma al-Shehab is an indicator of how Saudi Arabia intends to keep on oppressing women in the name of divine law in Islam, the Sharia.
“Saudi activist sentenced to 34 years in prison for Twitter activity,” by Celine Alkhaldi, CNN, August 17, 2022:
(CNN)Saudi women’s rights campaigner Salma al-Shehab was sentenced to 34 years in prison on Monday for her activity on Twitter, according to court documents viewed by CNN.
Al-Shehab, 33, was also banned from traveling outside of Saudi Arabia for another 34 years.
The PhD student at Leeds University in the United Kingdom had been arrested in January 2021 and was subjected to questioning sessions over a period of 265 days before being brought to the Specialized Criminal Court, according to independent human rights organization ALQST.
She was initially given a six-year sentence late last year — this was increased to 34 years after al-Shehab filed an appeal, according to the documents.
The charges filed against her by the Public Prosecution included “providing succor to those seeking to disrupt public order and undermine the safety of the general public and stability of the state, and publishing false and tendentious rumors on Twitter,” ALQST said.
Al Shehab told the court that without prior warning, she was “propelled” into the months-long investigation, during which she was kept under solitary confinement, according to the court documents.
The mother of two also asked the court to take into consideration the need to care for her children and sick mother, the documents said.
ALQST’s Head of Monitoring and Communications Lina Al-Hathloul told CNN that al-Shehab had been arrested for supporting her sister Loujain al-Hathloul — a prominent activist who spent more than 1,000 days in jail following a May 2018 sweep that targeted well-known opponents of the kingdom’s since-rescinded law barring women from driving — and other prisoners of conscience on Twitter.
Lina Al-Hathloul said in the ALQST statement that al-Shehab’s sentence “makes a mockery of the Saudi authorities’ claims of reform for women and of the legal system,” adding that it “shows that they remain hellbent on harshly punishing anyone who expresses their opinions freely.”…

They cannot allow any dissent, even if the person is just ‘liking” what some other person says about the lack of freedom.
mozlums present themselves as ‘perfect’ and when their imperfections are outlined, pointed out to others, revealed, questioned or in any other way makde known, the one making the imperfections known must be punished….to stop that person and to terrorize any others who might have been thinking along the same lines.
satan must keep his identify secret….”he keeps transforming himself into an angel of light,” and any exposing of his real demonic personality, must be harshly punished. the mozlum “governments” around the world are doing the devil’s “desires.”
Poor woman. Poor kids. No justice from satan’s ‘kingdom.’

And American women keep saying “its never been as hard as it is now to be a woman in America”. I laugh in their face and suggest they move to Iran or Saudi Arabia.
tim gallagher says
Spot on, Namer. All western countries give women a pretty pleasant life, certainly compared to these primitive Muslim countries.

Yep.

It’s very simple, if we allow Muslims to take over, then freedom is dead and we’ll end up like Iran or Saudi Arabia or any other Muslim hellhole country.
Therefore, Islam must be stamped out in free nations completely. Not one mosque should be allowed to stand, all Quran should be banned, and Muslims must be deported if they refuse to leave Islam.
Could it be any more clear that Islam is an enemy to the West?
JimJFox says
Wishful thinking, sadly. Best we can hope for is all-out civil war until Islam is eradicated from Europe, other countries to follow.
When Iran is proven to have the bomb the only option for Israel’s survival is pre-emptive nuclear strikes on its known nuclear facilities. Which would give thought to the others…
Japanese fanaticism based on supposed racial superiority was ended by such means though Islam will be far harder. It would however be sent into retreat lasting decades IMO.
Islamic jihad would/should be paused per its doctrine of “attack only from a position of strength”.

Tactical Nuke on the Kabba for starters then Tehran!

Not to justify what the Saudis are doing here, but the reason they’re probably doing it is to ensure that they can crack down on other dissent, such as jihadists and islamic dissent – as well. They are pilloried for the murder of Jamal Khashoggi, but while the latter didn’t deserve to be murdered, he was not a saint: he was very much a supporter of the muslim brotherhood. While Salma al-Shehab is right about the lack of freedoms for women in her country, the situation today – from women being allowed to drive to now women being allowed to initiate divorces and rent property alone w/o a mahram – is significant. Yeah, that country still has ways to go, but to equate it to what it was under the brothers, let alone father, of King Salman is to ignore a lot that’s happened
The sad part is that most of the worldwide woke left would rather continue to view that country as though nothing has changed, while turning a blind eye to actual human right abuses in countries like Iran, Yemen, Somalia, , “Palestine”, Pakistan and Bangladesh

Infidel–with all respect–the idea that Saudi Arabia doesn’t really hate equality for women but just wants to be able to crack down on Jihadists makes no sense. Despite these reforms Saudi Arabia is still one of the worst places in the world for women–and this is because of Islam, not despite it.
DavidR says
Shariah is a convenient excuse for the Saudi family to protect their sick “royal” lineage and it’s comorbid power and wealth. These people who are born into money and unearned domination have to act as if they deserve it, which includes severe punishments for anybody who points out the obvious, in this case a 34 year long slap in the face. But the fact that Salma wasn’t sentenced to death reveals the shallowness of the Saudi clan’s devotion to Shariah as they maneuver along the border that separates righteousness from self righteousness. This problem is inherent to Islam which is why the Arab “Spring” unwound after so many first, and subsequently last, “democratic” elections. When Democracy and Shariah get together Democracy often wakes up to find it was just a one night stand with Shariah flat out lying when she claimed love at first sight till the end of time just a few hours earlier.

These Muslim countries are such a bad joke, totally lacking in any humane attitude, especially to women. So the Saudi idea of justice is that this woman lodged an appeal against her 6 year long sentence, so then the evil, inhuman vermin in charge of the justice system throw a tantrum and say, how dare she appeal, and make the sentence 34 years, basically destroying her entire life since her entire life will be spent in jail.. There has to be special place in Hell waiting these subhuman vermin that run places like Saudi Arabia. Human beings they ain’t.
Keith O says
What isn’t covered in this story Tim, is that this woman and almost every other woman that has been arrested for similar things, has been tortured, raped, bashed, starved etc.
There was a story that was leaked by a former guard at one of the jails, what he described was like something out of a spy novel when it came to the torture techniques used.
These included but were not limited to the insertion of rough metal objects into the vagina and then hooked up to electricity.
Multiple rapes of all orifices.
Electric shocks over naked body using wet sponges and car batteries.
Basically, the worst type of shit you can think of and the women are told when they are released that one word of this will land them back inside. With this fear tactic, it’s no wonder we hear bugger all about this.
tim gallagher says
I’m not the slightest bit surprised about any of that, Keith O. The savagery of people in these Muslim countries is truly inhuman. Islam produces sadistic monsters in vast numbers. Ho about the idea of justice in this story though. The woman appeals so the vengeful scum give 34 years instead of 6 years. Their idea of justice is totally evil, a complete joke. They are inhuman scum who run such countries. Her life is obviously over with such a sentence and with those tortures that you mention..
Keith O says
Basically, the world needs an enema to cleanse it of the shit that is islam.
tim gallagher says
An excellent idea, Keith O.

Saudi Arabia: Women’s rights activist gets 34 years in prison for her tweet criticizing the country
………………………………..
Disgusting–this *poor woman*. Why are we still pretending that Saudi Arabia is a civilized nation? Even here there are some who mistakenly believe that Saudi Arabia is reforming and leaving the horrors of Islam behind–sadly untrue.

Because they have lots of OIL!

Robert, Quran 5:33 is what the Saudis have used on this occasion!
