This Washington Post feature article purports to show us what life is like in Afghanistan since Old Joe handed the country and billions of dollars’ worth of American military hardware to the Taliban, but true to form, the WaPo studiously avoids the elephant in the room. This is, after all, the establishment propaganda media, so we get exactly one mention of the word “Islamic,” and one brief reference to “sharia law.” In a large-type subhead, the Democracy-Dies-In-Darkness hypocrites tell us that an “atmosphere of stern religiosity” prevails in Kabul, as if a bunch of Puritans had taken over the city, and that’s exactly what these Leftist propagandists want to convey.
“After the Fall: What Afghanistan Looks Like Since the Taliban Takeover,” by Lorenzo Tugnoli, Washington Post, August 4, 2022 (thanks to Darcy):
As I got off the plane at Kabul’s international airport in September, a group of Taliban fighters was on the tarmac. All of them were wearing Afghan special forces uniforms and carried U.S.-made weapons left behind in the chaos of America’s rushed withdrawal. Six weeks prior, I had left a country run by a Western-backed government, where I had carried out several photography assignments in the past year. So I had missed the Aug. 15 fall of Kabul to the Islamic insurgents….
Women were seen less often in public since many had lost their jobs, especially in the public sector. The Ministry of Women’s Affairs was shut down, and its building now housed the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice — the religious police who enforce the Taliban version of sharia law….
Walter Sieruk says
The not so good title of a Washington Post article reads “A new atmosphere of stern religiosity permeated Kabul.”
A much more fitting and accurate heading would be “A very severe brutal oppressive atmosphere of Islamic tyranny permeated Kabul.”
Pray Hard says
Stern religiosity, huh? How cute is that?
somehistory says
Ah, yes, gotta’ make the worst sound not so bad…No mention of the rapes and kidnappings and killings.
If a bunch of “Puritans” had taken over control, they would definitely pour on the religious aspects…and try to make them sound really bad.
And right here in the U.S., a mozlum rule no one wants to acknowledge.

Yes, calling the dragging of afghanistan back into the stone age and islamic primitive barbarism, “stern religiosity” is certainly a euphemistic way to describe things. These left wing news sources will never tell the truth about what barbaric, totally inhumane shit islam really is. Complete inhumanity, which is what the life lived under the Taliban in Afghanistan is, is called merely “stern religiosity”. Nothing but gutless, lying words.
Westman says
The “new” Afghan Taliban atmosphere is just the old Taliban atmosphere, much as the West’s “new” morality is just the same old immorality.
Orthodox Islam is a war mill-wheel that turns forever, grinding up humanity and Muslims for a superlative reward it promises, yet cannot give.
As Churchill said, there is no greater retrograde force than Islam. Afghanistan is doomed, under the Taliban, to be poor and unrespected.
Wellington says
Reminds me again, all other things being the same, if only the Western media was ruthlessly objective in the search for the truth no matter where it would take them. If so, the other rot (e.g., the present Democratic Party of the USA) would be consigned to oblivion in relatively quick fashion (ditto for Islam in the West).
But they’re not even remotely ruthlessly objective. In fact, the MSM is so awful that it has become a laughing stock for anyone who knows what is true and what is false, what is right and what is wrong.
James Lincoln says
Wellington,
Agree 100%.
If the Western media practiced fair and balanced journalism – instead of pushing Leftist propaganda and apologizing for islam – both islam and Leftism could be effectively marginalized…

Dear WaPo
It’s more than ‘stern religiosity’. You remember how you used to tell us about the Handmaid’s tale, and how that would be the condition of American women if Republicans get elected? Well, that’s the lot of Afghan women now: they’re back to being back at home, barefoot and pregnant. In fact, every parody that you’ve ever done of Republicans – the Afghans – even before the Taliban – well exceeded that
You ought to relocate to Kabul and rebrand your paper the ‘Kabul Post’. Or whatever its Pashto or Dari translation is, and hire new writers in those languages

I dont know why anybody is surprised that the current morons in charge of Afghanistan would be any different that the previous Tali Boys but then I read in trash papers like the WaPo suggesting that the ”new” Tali Boys will create more rights of women because they have said they would, however without reading further on where they said, women’s rights will be restored UNDER the LAW of sharia.
The devil is in the details.
Bachi Boys are back dancing in Kabul.. This is known as progress as America has also their own wee Bachi Boys dancing in adult Gay Night Clubs so we must be aware of who we are calling the devil…
