Do you think the university would be prattling on about “academic freedom” and the “freedom of speech” if On Dit had published an article discussing how Islamic jihadis use the texts and teachings of Islam to justify jihad violence and Sharia oppression of women and others? Neither do I.
“University of Adelaide and Antisemitic Student Paper Editor Respond to Complaints About ‘Death to Israel’ Article,” IsraellyCool, September 1, 2022 (thanks to The Religion of Peace):
Following the brouhaha over student newspaper On Dit editor Habibah Jaghoori’s vile article calling for ‘Death to Israel’, the University of Adelaide’s Vice Chancellor office sent the following to those of us who expressed concern:
Thank you for your email to the Vice-Chancellor.
On Dit is a student publication and elected student media editors, rather than University management, carry independent editorial responsibility for its content.
Like other higher education institutions, the University of Adelaide’s support of academic freedom and freedom of speech is reflected in its Freedom of Speech Policy. However, the University recognises that there are legal restraints on freedom of speech, including restraints on inciting violence and vilification on the ground of race. The University deplores religious and racial discrimination including antisemitism.
The University remains committed to a safe and inclusive campus on which all, irrespective of race or religion, are treated with respect.
I have asked for clarification as to what the University remaining “committed to a safe and inclusive campus on which all, irrespective of race or religion, are treated with respect” actually means in terms of definitive action.
Meanwhile, Jaghoori herself has responded by digger [sic] herself a bigger hole while showing just how vile she truly is:
The editor of South Australian student magazine On Dit has clarified to The AJN that “Death to Israel” means “death to the state, to the war criminal IDF, to the occupations and to Zionism”, in an email she also signed off with “Death to Israel”.
The AJN had reached out to the editors of the student publication for comment about the recent article titled For Palestine, There is No Ceasefire.
In her response, On Dit editor and author Habibah Jaghoori emphasised that in her view “Judaism and Zionism are completely separate”.
“The revolutionary slogan of ‘Death to Israel’ is not antisemitic,” she said, adding, “Palestinians themselves are Semites.”…

On a tangential note, and prompted by the photo above, Muslim garb on women I find exceedingly dreary and depressing. I never found traditional Catholic garb worn by nuns either dreary or depressing (educated by them, and quite well, through grade school and high school) but then traditional Catholicism (semi-destroyed by Vatican II) is an enlightened religion and Islam is not, so I think my prejudices here, thoroughly justified I would argue, do influence my thinking on this matter of sartorial selection.

Yes, a nun must undergo several years of study before becoming a nun. Many of them no longer wear the traditional garb but they are well-educated women and they are free to choose whether or not to take their vows as a nun. They don’t normally go around wishing death upon people or their governments either. Actually, in my experiences with them, they seemed to have a pre-occupation with getting eternal life for everyone instead.

Well said and accurate, CES.

It does not really matter to her if a Jew is a Zionist or is even Semitic. The god she worships wants her to fight Infidels. Jews are Infidels. Of course she wants to destroy the country in which Jews live freely and are able to follow their religion without paying the Jizya to Muslims. She not only wants death to the government of Israel, she wants death to any government that is run by Infidels – the current government of Australia included. Deception is her weapon of first choice.

the mozlums need some great big dictionaries from a few decades ago….can’t trust the *new* editions…because they just don’t know the meaning of words; such as “respect.” and neither do those saying that “respect” is expected by everyone, but not bothering to enforce the rule.
this is not “respectful” in any sense of the word to proclaim “death to Israel.” How about “death to islam” or “death to iran,”….after all, iran calls for the “death” of both Israel and the U.S. and they don’t just mean the *nation state* but we are all included in that death wish. and this is true of the topic….she didn’t just mean the ‘nation’ but the Jews who live there…and wherever a Jew may be found.
and, she has such a self-satisfied look on her ugly chubby face…a smirk of arrogance knowing that she won’t be shot down for her threat. One day, she will “reap.”

Australia: University argues for ‘freedom of speech’ after ‘Death to Israel’ article in student paper
Do you think the university would be prattling on about “academic freedom” and the “freedom of speech” if On Dit had published an article discussing how Islamic jihadis use the texts and teachings of Islam to justify jihad violence and Sharia oppression of women and others? Neither do I.
………………………………….
Of course not.
And in any case, pretty much the only speech *not* covered by freedom of speech is calls for violence–and that’s what this here is.
She doesn’t just say “Death to Israel”–bad enough, but a phrase that *might* be just taken as a political slogan, but for the rest of what Habibah Jaghoori wrote–that Israelis be subjected to “merciless terrorism”. She also says that there can be no talks with Israel, nor any ceasefires, and that Israelis cannot be reasoned with, but just destroyed.
She ends with this: “Glory to the Intifada. InshAllah it will be merciless”.
This is a clear call for genocide.
When I was at university in the late 1970s and early 1980s there was a lot of ugly pro-“Palestinian” stuff–but I never could have imagined that a college paper would publish anything so vile as this.

The double standard that we are witnessing on a global scale is frightening. What is more startling is the swiftness with which this double standard has taken hold.
That someone would actually believe, for example, that white is black and, black is white, is beyond comprehension. There was a time when I thought that those on the left lied as easily as they breath, now… I think they lie easier than they breath.
It’s my opinion that evil is on the rise and that Islam is from the pit of hell.

Grimly agree, Milo.
