The recent Islamic terror attack in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu has reiterated a fundamental and yet often ignored or trivialized fact about Islamic jihad through the course of history, and that is that having a majority of population, or even a significant fraction of population, isn’t the only necessary criterion for Islamic rule or the institutional persecution of non Muslims in a given geopolitical entity. Otherwise, jihad wouldn’t have been so rampant in a state where Muslims make up barely six percent of the total population. To understand this, let’s look at some of the key phases and events of Islamic jihad in Tamil Nadu from its earliest days up to now.
In 1311, Malik Kafur attacked the Hindu Pandyan kingdom in southern India, plundering massive wealth and murdering thousands, thus bringing the Islamic rule to Tami soil for the first time. From that time, it remained under loose Islamic control through the days of Khiljis and Tughlaqs. In 1335, Jalaluddin Ahsan Khan established the Sultanate of Ma’bar, or the Madurai sultanate, in today’s Madurai, Tamil Nadu. On the condition of Madurai under the Muslim rule, Gangadevi writes:
“I very much lament for what has happened to the groves in Madhura. The coconut trees have all been cut and in their place are to be seen rows of iron spikes with human skulls dangling at the points In the highways which were once charming with the sounds of anklets of beautiful women, are now heard ear-piercing noises of being dragged, bound in iron fetters. The waters of Tambraparni which were once white with sandal paste rubbed away from the breasts of charming girls are now flowing red with the blood of cows slaughtered by the miscreants.
Ibn Batuta described Ghiyasuddin Dhamgani’s actions in this way:
The Hindu prisoners were divided into four sections and taken to each of the four gates of the great catcar. There, on the stakes they had carried, the prisoners were impaled. Afterwards their wives were killed and tied by their hair to these pales. Little children were massacred on the bosoms of their mothers and their corpses left there. Then, the camp was raised, and they started cutting down the trees of another forest. In the same manner did they treat their later Hindu prisoners. This is shameful conduct such as I have not known any other sovereign guilty of. It is for this that God hastened the death of Ghiyath-eddin.
One day whilst the Kadhi (Kazi) and I were having our food with (Ghiyazu-d-din), the Kazi to his right and I to his left, an infidel was brought before him accompanied by his wife and son aged seven years. The Sultan made a sign with his hand to the executioners to cut off the head of this man; then he said to them in Arabic: “and the son and the wife.” They cut off their heads and I turned my eyes away. When I looked again, I saw their heads lying on the ground.
I was another time with the Sultan Ghiyath-eddin when a Hindu was brought into his presence. He uttered words I did not understand, and immediately several of his followers drew their daggers. I rose hurriedly, and he said to me: “Where are you going?” I replied: “I am going to say my afternoon (4 o’clock) prayers.” He understood my reason, smiled, and ordered the hands and feet of the idolater to be cut off. On my return I found the unfortunate swimming in his blood.
Now, let’s come to the era of British India. In the year 1946, when the provincial elections were held, the Madras province (which mostly encompassed today’s Indian states of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh) had 29 “Muslim only” electorates, and so all of the 29 seats went to the Muslim League, thus advancing the creation of Pakistan.
In 1993, the Islamic terror organization Al Ummah, founded and led by SA Basha, detonated a bomb in an RSS office in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
In 1997, Al Ummah murdered a Hindu policeman named Selvaraj in Tamil Nadu.
In 1998, Al Ummah detonated twelve bombs within a radius of 7.5 miles in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, killing 58 people and injuring more than 200. They also plotted to assassinate BJP leader LK Advani, but could not do so due to the presence of the national security guard and Indian army. Most of the perpetrators were either acquitted or released post-conviction, including the notorious Islamic terrorist Abdul Nazer Mahdani, who was the mastermind of the Bangalore serial bombings in 2008.
On October 22, 2022, Jamesha Mubin, the jihad suicide attacker who was caught and killed in a premature suicide bombing attack, was detained by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in 2019 because of his connections to Zahran Hashim, the mastermind of 2019 Easter bombings in Sri Lanka. Though he was released on technical grounds because of a lack of incriminating evidence, the federal agency had recommended that the state police of Tamil Nadu to keep him under surveillance. This surveillance was allegedly discontinued when the incumbent ultra left-wing Dravida Munnera Kazhagam (DMK) government came to power last year.
Mubin was recruited for jihad at a mosque in Coimbatore by the preaching sessions of Tamil Nadu Thowheed Jamaat (TNTJ). TNTJ was founded in 2004 for the self-proclaimed purpose of teaching “true Islam” to Muslims as well as non-Muslims. Now, the official stance of TNTJ is that they don’t support any armed or violent activity, but in addition to Mubin, there have been several instances of Muslims who were either directly in touch or were influenced by the teachings of TNTJ committing acts of violent jihad. As a matter of fact, one of the five arrested for plotting and attempting the execution of this attack, Mohammad Thalka, is the nephew of none other than SA Basha himself.
Although now the case has been been taken over by central government, the Tamil Nadu establishment had been actively involved in covering up the entire incident, as when they tried to dismiss any Islamic terror angle by officially describing the explosion as a mere gas cylinder blast. But all this shouldn’t come as any surprise; after all, this is the same ruling group whose topmost office-bearers have recently reiterated their solemn pledge to destroy Hindus and Hinduism.
The systematic sociopolitical marginalization and subjugation of the majority Hindu community, as well as the empowerment of political Islam by the left-wing ecosystem and the ruling political group, as well as the increasing use of statist tactics by governments in India, is the reason for this new onslaught of Islamic barbarity.

This is the barbarity the devotees of “the religion of peace” are known for in India. Therefore the Hindus of India are not as naïve as Westerners, who were spared that depravity by brave men such as Charles Martel.
