My 26th and latest book, Who Lost Afghanistan? (Center for Security Policy Press) is available now on Kindle and can be ordered here. The paperback edition right now is marked “currently unavailable,” but it should be available in a day or two at most.
“Bush concluded with a ringing peroration: ‘The battle is now joined on many fronts. We will not waver; we will not tire; we will not falter; and we will not fail. Peace and freedom will prevail. Thank you. May God continue to bless America.’”
“And yet we did waver. We did tire. We did falter. We did fail. Peace and freedom did not prevail. Once the whole thing was done, in an entirely transformed political landscape, even whether God would continue to bless America was not fully clear.”
So writes Robert Spencer in Who Lost Afghanistan?, a poignant look at how the refusal to take seriously the motivations of America’s enemies in the Global War on Terror set off a 20-year slow motion defeat that will impact U.S. national security for decades to come.

I’ll be reading this one. Sadly, it was *never* possible to civilize Afghanistan, a place statistically 100% Muslim.
James Lincoln says
The ENORMOUS cost in blood and treasure could have been avoided if US leaders had taken the time to learn the TRUTH about islam.
Not the whitewashed version fed to them by muslim brotherhood front organizations.

Every time I see/read Bush’s post-9/11 “Islam is peace” speech I’m reminded that it is CAIR’s Nihad Awad standing right beside him.

I am surpised that the US leaders made the sam mistake as half a century before with S Vietmen where they trained and eqioppid the army to fight the North. They mostly surrendered like the Afghans did. If the USA had fought alongside the army they had trained and especially given air support, the Taliban could havebeen wiped out.

I have rewritten as there were so many typos: I am surpised that the US leaders made the same mistake as half a century before with S Vietnamese where they trained and equiped the army to fight the North. They mostly surrendered like the Afghans did. If the USA had fought alongside the army they had trained and especially given air support, the Taliban could have been wiped out. The T’ban are guereilla fighters once they were out in the open and massed they could have been obliterated

The rules of engagement for US military forces since Vietnam make it impossible to win a war.

The catastrophe that Joe Biden created in Afghanistan, it’s worse than terrible.
Just think of all those Americans and out good Afghans friends he abandoned in Afghanistan to be encountered captured tortured and murdered by the bloodthirsty Taliban.
To make matters even worse Biden admitted many unchecked and unvetted “refugees” into and throughout the United States, a number of them, not doubt are criminal and secret jihadists scheming and waiting for the time they consider engaging in murderous violence.
The innocent people who will be murdered by them will guilty and likewise Biden will also then have their blood on his sinister wicked and destructive hands.
All that evil in Afghanistan would never have happened if that President Pretender, Joe Biden just threw away and totally destroyed nearly twenty years of progress accomplished by the blood sweat and tears and even the deaths of many Americans as well as those blood, sweat and tears of America’s allies.
Also, Biden threw away more than trillion of the American taxpayer’s money that was invested in for the betterment and development of Afghanistan.
This tragic scenario didn’t actually have to had happen in Afghanistan because the generals of the Pentagon who are strategic military advisers to the President strongly counseled Biden not to have a sharp, sudden withdrawal from Afghanistan but instead have and start a gradual drawback of the US armed forces after September 11, 2021.
The problem was that the arrogant conceited and stupid Joe Biden refused to heed or listen to the wise council of the intellects of the Pentagon. Therefore, is this complete catastrophe with the Taliban total takeover of Afghanistan.
In the ancient but wisdom filled book by Sun Tzu entitled THE ART OF WAR, it is written “He will win who has the military capability and is not interfered with the sovereign.”
That awful incompetent and probably even treasonous villain, Joe Biden, ruined everything.
Walter Sieruk says
That horrible treacherous Joe Biden must really likes America’s enemy, the Taliban, since he gave away Afghanistan to them. Biden truly is a villainous traitor of the most horrendous sort.
On the night Television program Sean Hannity 8/17/21 on Fox News ,the former United States President Donald Trump was interviewed by Hannity and Mr. Trump had spoken about this Biden withdraw from Afghanistan and Trump ,truthfully declared that “Nobody had ever handled a withdrawal worse than Joe Biden.”
He further stated that “This is the greatest embarrassment in the history of this country” and Trump then mentioned how the other countries are watching all this and that “China is laughing at us.” because “China does not respect us anymore.”
It’s all very obvious that this awful lack of respect of all the fault of that terrible man, Joe Biden.
Donald Trump had also well said “What is now happening in Afghanistan is unbelievable”
Walter Sieruk says
The Taliban victory is the outcome of horrible man, Joe Biden in Office seems to have no end or limit
.
That fiendish man, Biden, created the catastrophe of the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan and simultaneously inspires more zeal in Islamic terrors organizations around the world.
Walter Sieruk says
That treasonous US “President” Joe Biden, has aided and helped the murderous Taliban enemy conquer Afghanistan and even let the America and American people hating Taliban have new high quality US military equipment.
Likewise, Biden is a traitor to all the families and friends of those US soldiers, who had shed their blood, were killed and terribly maimed for life by the Taliban. For creepy traitorous old Joe just ‘gave away” Afghanistan to the Taliban.
Biden also has betrayed many Americans and the good Afghans who really aided the US military in the land by abandoning them all to the vicious and murderous Taliban
Furthermore, Biden really does not care about those thirteen Americans who died or the other American who died in Afghanistan because of either his incompetence or treasonous orders.
Therefore , Joe Biden is very, obviously is ether completely incompetent and despicably treasonous. In the first or second case Biden should not have been allowed be enter the Office of the Presidency in the first place.
As that catastrophe, he created in Afghanistan and letting the Taliban obtain may high quality US military equipment.
As the former US President Theodore Roosevelt that the Office of the Presidency in not only a powerful position but “a very strong man” is needed for the Oval Office. Joe Biden is not a strong man but as already stated is weak and feeble.
Roosevelt also, rightly, believed “a man holding that very important Office “should be sharply watch by the people [and] held to a strict accountability by them.”

No one ‘lost’ Afghanistan. We never had it. At some point, we all have to accept the fact that we cannot help people who don’t want to be helped. The Afghans played along with us for two decades but it was always their country and they weren’t going to embrace democracy, freedom or Western values. The best thing we can do is protect ourselves from them. Aside from killing Osama bin Laden, our involvement in Afghanistan was a fool’s errand.
