As usual an interesting discussion between Robert and David. BTW, the word Muhammad used to describe those Muslims who do not wish to fight with the “Infidels” but instead want only to live in peace and comfort with them is “hypocrites.”

During this David Wood , Robert Spencer discussion the very first thing that that brought up is that many Muslims want the police to stop using the word “Islamist.”
So they want the term “Islamist” be removed from counter terror policing,, that might be a good Idea but not for the reason those stealth jihadist object to that word.
The reason is the term “Islamist” should be dropped it’s such a fake word, a made up post -9//11 “word”
A much more accurate term that should be used because it’s sticking with reality would be to two word term “Muslim terrorist.”
For it’s a very good idea to be clear in the choice of words and use it’s best to have plain speech. For example an extremely cruel man, Muslim or non-Muslim, isn’t “sick ” but evil. Likewise a violent , dangerous jihadist , shouldn’t really be called an “Islamist ” but called a “Muslim terrorist.”

I like David’s idea of ‘muslim-lite’ or ‘islam-lite’ to describe muslims who are not interested in killing us, subjugating us or doing any of that, but just do the 5 pillars, if that, and stop there. Maybe we can start using MINOs for muslims who are not jihadists, until they prove that they are, at which point we simply start calling them muslims
As I have pointed out many times, give me the Arabic/Turkish/Urdu/Farsi word for ‘islamism’ that is different from ‘islam’

In this Robert Spencer ,David Wood conversation turned to the very important subject of the justified and righteous revolt by the Iranian people against that horrific and hideously oppressive malicious and murderous tyrannical Islamic regime of Iran.
The Iranian people are engaging in bitter and strong protests against those cruel malicious and murderous tyrants in power of that cruel and opressive Sharia based dictatorship of that Islamic regime of Iran.
In other words , those vicious despots of that horrendously horrific Islamic regime have provoked the people way too far.

Sorry. This is just another episode in the endless cycle of modernisation v traditionalism that goes on in all Muslim societies.
The Muslim narrative goes: ‘We’ve modernised and that is the root of all our problems. Back to Shariah. No we’re backward and we must modernise’. On and on and never acceptance of the lack of basics like human rights, gender equality, equality under the law and free elections.

Sadly all too common. I support the protests in Iran against the headscarf, but I doubt in many cases this is actually a rejection of Islam.

I dunno – in a survey done 2 years ago, they found that only 32% of Iranians were shi’a muslims, while >40% were a combination of atheist/no-faith/agnostic/spiritual. Zoroastrianism shot up to #2 in the sweepstakes
Given all that, I tend to agree w/ RS that the demolition of Ayatollah Ruhullah Khomenei’s home in Khomein was an indication of their disgust w/ Iran, not just this regime. I think they are past the point of drawing meaningless distinctions b/w the regime and islam

In that friendly dialogue between Robert Spencer and David Wood they made mention of the brave and courageous Iranian athletes who are the World Cup players to refused to sing the national anthem of the Islamic regime of Iran to show their solidarity with the terribly oppressed people who are trapped in that “mullah tyranny” which denies them their basic human rights and natural freedom that are within reasonable limits.
It had been said ” All that is needed for evil to trumpet is for good men to do nothing.” Just the fact that those good men are taking a awful risk by not singing the national anthem of the wicked oppressive malicious and murderous Islamic tyranny of Iran shows that good men who are protesting that vicious tyranny and therefore they are doing something.

Just an aside as it was brought up. The game of football was I believe invented in England before the US was created. The ball is mainly propelled by kicking it, in fact carrying the ball is against the rules, so the logical name is football. The brutal contact sport invented in USA where the players have to armour themselves against injury and they are often seriously injured anyway, does not involve kicking the ball around as it is mainly carried by the players. So the name American football is erroneous.

Agreed–the World Cup *never* should have been held is an unfree Islamic hell hole like Qatar.

Agree w/ you! I understand what RS is saying when he mocks the idea of not using your hands in a sport, but if they did, why would they call it football?
Anyway, I find that sport more boring than test cricket from the 70s and 80s, when the bulk of matches used to be drawn

A jihadi walks into a bar: A jihadi arrives in Germany – thankful that he managed to sneak through the border and get into the local welfare office he decided to celebrate his gratitude by going into a bar and thanking everyone inside.
‘Thank you for allowing me into your country and giving me food, shelter, medical care and money’ – he said to the first man.
‘Oh I’m not German – I’m a Syrian’ said the man.
He approached the next man he said -‘Thank you for allowing me into your country and giving me food shelter, medical care and money’
‘Oh I’m not German. I’m an Arab.’
He then met a Turk, a Pakistani and a Moroccan.
The last man he spoke to in the bar said he was an Iraqi, so he asked him – ‘then where are all the Germans?’
The Iraqi looked at his watch then looking up and said ‘Oh they will be working.’

One thing I wonder, looking at the thumbnail picture – what percentage of soccer fans have Bud as their favorite beer? Budweiser was hoping to make a dent in that demographic, but that has been sabotaged by the Qatari authorities. I’m glad that Budweiser is threatening to sue FIFA, and hope that FIFA reads the al Thanis the riot act – threatening to pull out and reschedule next year in one of the other countries – if beer isn’t allowed in the stadiums
