To listen to the spokesmen of the Hamas-linked Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), Muslims are the main victims of “hate crimes” that result from the “Islamophobia” that has apparently been sweeping the nation in the two decades since the 9/11 attacks. It turns out that even among the handful of supposed hate crimes against Muslims, the perpetrators have often turned out to be fellow Muslims. Here are some examples from just this year. Most recently, there was the hysteria about homicidal “homophobia” when four Muslims were killed in separate attacks in Albuquerque, New Mexico. After President Biden and the state’s governor, and everyone in between, had denounced this “hate crime against Muslims,” the murderer turned out to be another Sunni Muslim, Muhammed Syed, who was determined to have killed all four because they were Shi’a. Muslims have often claimed to have been the targets of “hate crimes,” but it often turns out that there is no police report of such crimes, no evidence whatsoever beyond someone’s claim. The FBI has been unable, for example, to find evidence that “hate letters” that were claimed to have been sent to several mosques were ever sent. CAIR has claimed as a “hate crime” a second grade teacher’s readjusting a student’s head covering, which she thought was merely a cap worn over the girl’s hijab, but turned out to be the hijab itself. The incident blew up, and the teacher was accused of deliberately “tearing off” the girl’s hijab. That teacher in Maplewood, New Jersey, Tamar Herman, is now suing CAIR and a Muslim Olympic medalist, Ibtihaj Muhammad, who criticized her on social media, for defamation and for causing irreparable harm to her reputation. What started as a simple misunderstanding between the plaintiff, who is Jewish, and one of her second-grade students, who is Muslim, was transformed by the defendants’ complicity in a parade of outrageous, false, defamatory and antisemitic statements. A man attacked a mosque with an axe in San Diego; he turned out to be a Muslim. A Muslim preacher claimed to have been stabbed, but there was no police report or hate crime record to back up his claim. In Canada, a man attacked a mosque with an axe. After Prime Minister Trudeau had strongly condemned “this act which has no place in Canada,” the perpetrator was caught – a certain Mohammad Moiz Omar. In Dearborn, Michigan, a man who set fire to a mosque turned out to be – you guessed it, a Muslim. In Virginia, a Muslim lawmaker continued to repeat that a student pulled off a Muslima’s hijab, even though the charge had been proven false.
And false claims about anti-Muslim hate crimes keep being made. A Muslim student at the University of Maryland claimed that someone had tried to rip off her hijab; the Muslim Students Association on campus was quick to respond: “It has come to our attention that yesterday a hate crime has occurred to a Muslim sister of ours on campus. As you can imagine, we are shocked, disgusted, and outraged that an event like this has occurred to one of our own sisters in Faith. As Muslims, our Faith requires us to stand up for Justice, especially for those who are constantly under oppression.” But the police reviewed every frame of the video footage of where the assault was claimed to have taken place and could not find any evidence that such an attack had taken place. The Muslima had simply made it up, to get attention, to stir things up, to win sympathy.
Robert Spencer has reported on another such faked incident that occurred in Northern Virginia, where a Muslim girl who was then a sophomore at Fairfax High School claimed that she was the victim of an “Islamophobic” attack. She and a purported eyewitness claimed that “several students made offensive drawings referencing Muslims, Jews, and George Floyd. “When they confronted these hate-filled, no doubt MAGA-hat-wearing white male offenders, the crude louts made offensive comments and one got very close” to the Muslim girl.
According to WJLA in Northern Virginia, a Muslim girl who is a sophomore at Fairfax High School claimed that last Tuesday, she was the victim of an “Islamophobic” attack. She and a purported eyewitness claimed that “several students made offensive drawings referencing Muslims, Jews, and George Floyd.” When they confronted these hate-filled, no doubt MAGA-hat-wearing white male offenders, the crude louts “made offensive comments and one got very close” to the Muslim girl.
According to that girl, mayhem ensued: “My backpack bumped into him, and then he got mad, and he pushed me, and he grabbed my hijab. So I punched him in the stomach because he wouldn’t let go. And he threw me across the room and I hit my whole left side on the chair and desk.” She claims that “she eventually wound up on the floor and had difficulty breathing.”
By her own account, the Muslim girl has been thoroughly traumatized. “I haven’t been able to eat, keep food down,” she told WUSA, “‘cause of the stress, and how, uh, disgusted I am that, uh, I had to go through this at my school where I should feel safe.” She said, however, that she was fighting for justice for every girl who wears the hijab. “It’s for every hijabi out there. Every Muslim girl, every Muslim person, every Muslim guy. It’s not, uh – it’s a daily thing that we go through, and people are trying to cover it up and make it look like, uh, an accident.” She also charged that “the school is trying to cover it up, and said I had a panic attack, which did not happen.”
Fairfax High School students were having none of this attempted cover-up. After all, they have been taught all their lives that, ever since 9/11, Muslims have been particular victims of discrimination, harassment, and hate crimes, and that only bigots and white supremacists would fail to stand in solidarity with them. And so they eagerly fell into line: around 350 Fairfax High students protested outside the school on Thursday morning, saying that they were angry not just over the “Islamophobic” attack but also the school’s response to it.
This was because the Muslim girl who said she was attacked claimed that “both she and the male student who allegedly pulled off her hijab were given one-day in-school suspensions and forced to serve them on Wednesday in the same room.” Why were the attacker and his victim given the same punishment? Fairfax school officials wouldn’t say, and Ibrahim Hooper of the Hamas-linked Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), always ready to jump on any claim of an “Islamophobic hate crime,” fumed: “It is the responsibility of administrators and educators to ensure the safety of all students, and by allowing the suspected assailant to return to school – where he reportedly threatened more students – they have failed in that duty. This incident must be investigated as a possible hate crime by law enforcement, and the alleged assailant must be suspended while the investigation takes place.” A petition was started at Change.org, demanding that school administrators act more decisively in connection with this incident; as of this writing, it has more than 27,000 signatures.
It was a marvelous orgy of victimhood for everyone, but then the Fairfax Police Department brought it all to a screeching halt. WTOP reported Saturday that “a City of Fairfax Police Department investigation has determined that a physical altercation at Fairfax High School on Tuesday was not a hate crime. … The investigation revealed there were no racial comments made by either student,” according to police. The female student confirmed “her hijab became partially undone during the altercation, exposing her hair.” She also told police that the information posted on several social media sites, stating that racial comments were used during the altercation, were false.
Don’t be surprised. In reality, many of the most celebrated claims of harassment of women and girls wearing the hijab turned out to have been faked by the victims themselves. In one such incident, an eleven-year-old girl in Toronto made international headlines with her claim that a man had followed her and cut her hijab with scissors. After an investigation, police concluded that the attack never happened. Likewise, Yasmin Seweid, a Muslim teen, claimed in December 2016 that Trump supporters on a New York subway tore off her hijab and no one in the packed subway car helped her. She, too, garnered international media attention, and she, too, made up the whole thing. Shortly before that, a hijab-wearing Muslim student at San Diego State University also falsely claimed that she was assaulted by Trump supporters. In July 2017, a Muslim in Britain falsely claimed that a man had pulled off her hijab in a “race hate attack.” In November 2016, a University of Michigan Muslim student claimed she was “accosted by a white man who told her to remove her hijab or he would set her ablaze with a cigarette lighter.” She also fabricated the whole event.
But no one has accused Jews of fabricating the antisemitic attacks that have become endemic, from New York to Los Angeles. The latest report, on religiously-based hate crimes in LA County, is one more alarming evidence confirming the rise in antisemitism.
Los Angeles County has released its report on “hate crimes” committed in 2021, and as always, Jews are overwhelmingly the victims. The details are here: “LA Hate Crimes Highest in 19 Years, Jews Targeted in 74% of Religiously Motivated Crimes: Report,” by Andrew Bernard, Algemeiner, December 8, 2022:
The Los Angeles County Commission on Human Relations, a government body that reports to the Board of Supervisors, recorded a 23% increase in reported hate crimes last year, from 641 to 786.
Religiously-motivated offenses spiked 29%, from 86 to 111, with 74% of those incidents targeting the Jewish community. That number does not include crimes motivated by white supremacy, where Jews were once again the most targeted group with 45% of incidents, or “Crimes Related to Terrorism or Conflict in the Middle East,” a category in which every recorded incident in 2021 targeted Jews.
Keep that in mind the next time you hear CAIR complain about “anti-Muslim hate crimes.” Every single incident of “crimes related to terrorism or conflict in the Middle East” in 2021 targeted not Muslims in L.A. County, but Jews, only Jews.
The report notes that that marks a significant shift, as crimes in that category in previous years were largely directed at Muslims or Middle Easterners. The report gives an example of one such attack from last year. “Five Jewish men were dining at an outdoor restaurant. They observed a caravan of vehicles with Palestinian flags. Suddenly, 3 men jumped out of a jeep and ran toward the victims. They shouted, ‘Do you support Palestine?’ and ‘Are you f— Jewish?’ They punched and kicked the five victims and threw glass bottles at them.”
Robin Toma, the commission’s Executive Director, said that while some of the increase in hate crimes may be due to better reporting encouraged by a local LA program, the nationwide spike in hate crimes suggests that what’s happening in LA is not a reporting aberration.
The FBI and national Jewish groups have also recorded spikes in hate crimes and an increase in the number of such crimes targeting Jews. FBI Director Christopher Wray in November testified to Congress that antisemitism was the motivation in 63% of all religiously motivated crimes, while the Anti-Defamation League’s Audit of Antisemitic Incidents 2021 published in March recorded the highest level of antisemitic incidents since the ADL began tracking them in 1979.
According to FBI head Christopher Wray, 63% of religiously-motivated crimes all over the country were directed at Jews, who constitute less than 3% of the total population. These antisemitic attacks are at their highest level ever, since the ADL began tracking them forty-three years ago. What is not said by officials either at the FBI or in our police departments — because they don’t want to be accused of “Islamophobia” — is that the antisemitic virus has been spreading all over the world, carried especially by the tens of millions of Muslim migrants who have now established themselves in the countries of Western Europe and North America.
In New York City, the statistics are just as appalling as in LA. Antisemitic hate crimes have gone up 125% since last year. And while Jews make up only 18% of the city’s population, they are the targets of 60% of all religiously-motivated hate crimes in New York. This is not quite as bad as in LA County, where Jews make up 7% of the population, but 74% of the targets of such religiously-motivated hate crimes.
It would be useful to know who, exactly, is committing these antisemitic crimes, so that we can understand better how to bring this scourge under control. How many of these acts can be attributed to Muslims, prompted by the ideology of Islam, and how many are caused by “far-right white men” of the David Duke and George Lincoln Rockwell variety, whom we have been led to believe are the main culprits? And so they were, once, several decades ago. But not know.
What does the Qur’an say about Jews? Robert Spencer’s useful compilation of Quranic verses about the Jews is provided below:
The Jews in the Qur’an are called the strongest of all people in enmity toward the Muslims (5:82); they fabricate things and falsely ascribe them to Allah (2:79; 3:75, 3:181); they claim that Allah’s power is limited (5:64); they love to listen to lies (5:41); they disobey Allah and never observe his commands (5:13). They are disputing and quarreling (2:247); hiding the truth and misleading people (3:78); staging rebellion against the prophets and rejecting their guidance (2:55); being hypocritical (2:14, 2:44); giving preference to their own interests over the teachings of Muhammad (2:87); wishing evil for people and trying to mislead them (2:109); feeling pain when others are happy or fortunate (3:120); being arrogant about their being Allah’s beloved people (5:18); devouring people’s wealth by subterfuge (4:161); slandering the true religion and being cursed by Allah (4:46); killing the prophets (2:61); being merciless and heartless (2:74); never keeping their promises or fulfilling their words (2:100); being unrestrained in committing sins (5:79); being cowardly (59:13-14); being miserly (4:53); being transformed into apes and pigs for breaking the Sabbath (2:63-65; 5:59-60; 7:166); and more. They are under Allah’s curse (9:30), and Muslims should wage war against them and subjugate them under Islamic hegemony (9:29).
It is this sort of information that CAIR, and other Muslim apologists, want to hide from Jews and from the general public. Too bad. We have a right, and a pressing need, to know the sources of this latest wave of hate.
It would also be useful to measure any spike in such attacks on Jews following the recent spate of celebrities spouting, or endorsing, antisemitic messages, with Kanye West, who keeps doubling down on his praise of Hitler and contempt for Jews, leading the list. If it can be proven that his statements have provoked actual attacks, perhaps he can be silenced not just on Twitter, where Elon Musk has silenced him, but on every conceivable platform on social media. His words encourage the hatred of Jews that so often leads to violence against Jews. It is doing so today. His praise of Hitler, his placing a swastika inside a Star of David, his incessant antisemitic remarks every chance he gets, all constitute, as Elon Musk said, “incitement to violence.” Kanye has 28 million followers on Facebook. Why is Mark Zuckerberg not following Elon Musk’s example and banning Kanye West from his site? Why has Telegram, that temporarily banned West for a “racist” remark made about Trevor Noah, then reinstated him, not again banned him, and this time for good, after his long series of antisemitic remarks that go so far as to praise Adolf Hitler? Why should he not be cut off, on all the social media platforms, from his 30-million-strong audience of suggestible admirers? Make him a prophet in the wilderness, a vox clamantis in deserto no longer being heard. His being permanently cut off from his horrifyingly large audience will do them, and us, much good.
