Think of all the things that please you that would not be possible in a world ruled by Islam. The other day I made a list of 31 songs and routines that have pleased, amused, or enchanted me, and after I had listened to them again, I could not imagine even one of them being produced, much less tolerated, in a society where Islam dominates, and Muslims rule. The accepted carefree and amusing and tender relations of men to women, as variously expressed in these pieces, would horrify Muslims. So would the aplomb and self-assurance of the women, none of whom are the least bit submissive in their approach to men. Their costumes would clearly violate the Muslim prohibitions on dress. Their dances would appall. And the humor in many of these songs would be anathema to the agelasts of Islam. Ayatollah Khomeini was not alone in declaring that “there is no fun in Islam.” Finally, the musical instruments that were used to make all of this music violate Muhammad’s insistence that musical instruments are forbidden.

I’ve sometimes wondered if the Islamic prohibition on music was because they could not surpass the musical traditions of the cultures around them – maybe if it isn’t possible for Islam to be demonstrably “superior” in any given context, then the context itself must be wrong….
Siddi Nasrani says
I think that Mohammad was a total control freak & just loved the power over people.
He was a sad, miserable grumpy being & so he made everyone in the same image, No music,
No singing, No dancing, No merriment, No fun, No laughter, No wine & No love of life.
But he loved fighting, plundering, murdering, lying & having Sex with anybody he chose.
That is my opinion for what it is worth, but don’t take my word for it, read the Koran, Hadiths & Sira for yourself & make up your own mind up.

And no art or romantic love, either. There are few visions as grim as that of the “Prophet” Muhammed’s.
Alkflaeda says
Definitely agree with the quote marks around “prophet” – I believe that he was actually a trance medium rather than a prophet.
gravenimage says
Thank you, Alkflaeda. I don’t consider Muhammed an actual prophet.

Alkflaeda,
Interesting point, I never thought about it quite that way.
milo minderbinder says
Maybe… Islam is partially correct on the issue of music.
“If one should desire to know whether a kingdom is well governed, if its morals are good or bad, the quality of its music will furnish the answer.”
– Confucius (551-451 BC)
Alkflaeda says
That would make total rejection of music a sort of prequel to taqiyya, because the discerning would have nothing to go on…
gravenimage says
I doubt it, Alkflaeda–there are lots of cultures that have not been that creative when it comes to music, but whose people still enjoy listening to music, their own or from other places.
The prohibition on music in Islam is something much darker.
Alkflaeda says
You are right – I believe that the being who gained a faithful representative and follower in Mohammed, is the same one we see trying to obtain worship from Jesus in Luke 4:6-8
Alkflaeda says
PS Just realised I need to join the dots here, as I previously said that Mohammed was a medium – I actually believe that mediums are in contact with demons, not with the spirits of the dead.

Westman says
It may be that Muhammad had an accident or fight in which he received a severe concussion that resuted in periodic seizures and the onset of SSDS(also named SCDS), a condition in which loud sounds become disorienting and music may become nauseating.
The onset of SCDS usually comes later in life after some head trauma. Muhammad was about 40 when he began believing he was a prophet. It has been noted that revelations from him were preceded by a seizure.
It seems likely that Muhammad prohibited music because it caused vertigo or nausea for him due to his rare disorder. Believing and selling himself as Allah’s only spokesperson, he would have no hesitation to control his environment by denying music to others.

Thanks for that wonderful list, Westman! I think that “What a Wonderful World” is one of the most hopeful of all songs. Truly beautoful.

Islam is satan’s religion so everything is in reverse, that’s why they love death the way we love life. In order to be a good muslim you must hate, allah commands it of you, Hate is so important in the islam they even have a doctrine called al-wala wal-bara (sacred hatred). So music brings joy and pleasure to people, so allah is not having that.
tim gallagher says
Well said, John. Yes, islam is certainly a hate filled type of religion. islam is so evil and nasty in so many ways. No music, no visual arts, but plenty of murdering non-believers, plenty of raping non-Muslims and plenty of pedophilia as in the child brides. islam is a disgraceful religion and Muslims should be ashamed to belong to it. If you are an evil person, islam is the perfect fit.
gravenimage says
I think this from Islam was largely in opposition to Judaism’s love of life.
Alkflaeda says
Great point – and maybe one that indicates the true spiritual provenance of Islam.

“We love Death the way you love Life”: Muslims who believe this are welcome to commit suicide at any convenient time.

You are right, what a good idea. But alas to please Allah they have to murder an innocent kuffar at the same time to please Allah.

too true, sadly.

I guess, as a comedian, they’d murder ME even Before I got my chance to ridicule them, lol!!

Yep. Islam hates mockery of itself and all laughter, as well.

We Love Life The Way You Love Death
…………………………………………..
Thanks for turning this around, Mr. Fitzgerald!
That pious Muslims brag about loving death is just grotesque–we should make it clear that loving life is *not* a weakness–it is healthy and good.
And thanks for this great list–I know most of these songs, but a few are new to me.
I know you have Peggy Lee’s “Why Don’t You Do Right?”–here’s the wonderful animated scene from “Who Framed Roget Rabbit?”, where we–and Bob Hoskin’s detective character–are first introduced to the astonishing Jessica Rabbit:

Neither the song nor this animation could ever have been created in a Muslim nation.

Agreed Gravenimage, thanks for the great list Mr Fitzgerald.
I thought this was just a list that Hugh had provided us with, as I’ve only just cottoned on that they are actual links. What a wally I am.
gravenimage says
I’m still working through them, John. All great stuff!
Did you know that Robert Spencer plays the saxophone? Whenever he has enough time–s rarity these days, I think, but still pretty cool!
John ..Smith says
Sorry Gravenimage, my reply to you is below.
John ..Smith says
Yes I know Robert plays the saxophone, I have heard him mention it from time to time in his interviews.
Like you, I’m also working through this excellent list that Hugh has so kindly compiled for us.
As for the obscene clip you provided us with, well, what do I say. A half naked Jessica Rabbit strutting her stuff, and not even wearing a burqa. Like all good muslims I was deeply offended.
