Vladimir Putin on Tuesday delivered a state-of-the-nation address to the Russian people, and the contrast couldn’t have been sharper with Old Joe Biden’s Feb. 7 barrage of Leftist propaganda in his State of the Union address. Putin hit the West hard for its trendy gender madness and other manifestations of the dominant woke ideology. He even warned that if it kept up, Western nations were heading for “spiritual catastrophe.” One doesn’t have to think that the solution to all this is invading Ukraine in order to grant that the man has a point.
There are many in the West today who are ready to take the opposite of any position Putin takes just because Putin has taken it, and it certainly must be granted that the Russian strongman may only be saying such things in order to weaken support for Ukraine among American conservatives (many of whom are turned off already by the lingering suspicions that the whole thing is a money-laundering operation for Democrats). Still, if Putin’s disdain for “woke ideologies” is a put-on, he sure has mastered the lingo. Even if he doesn’t walk the walk, he certainly talks the talk.
“The Anglican Church,” Putin said, “is considering a gender-neutral God. May God forgive them for they know not what they do.” They certainly don’t. The idea that the Church of England would consider itself empowered to change something so fundamental about Christianity’s teachings regarding the nature of God indicates that it doesn’t really believe in Christianity at all, and thinks that the faith is infinitely malleable, able to be adjusted in any way the believers deem necessary in order to suit their own perspectives and proclivities. This is the opposite of what Christians have believed throughout the ages. Putin seems to understand that, while the learned Anglican divines do not.
“Millions of people in the West,” Putin added, “understand they are being led to a real spiritual catastrophe.” That is also true, and Putin knows why: according to a Tuesday report in the UK’s Daily Mail, he declared: “Look at what they do with their own peoples: the destruction of the family, cultural and national identity, perversion, and the abuse of children are declared the norm. And priests are forced to bless same-sex marriages.”
This coincides with the March 2022 statements of the Russian Orthodox Patriarch Kirill of Moscow: “We have entered into a struggle that has not a physical, but a metaphysical significance. … Pride parades are designed to demonstrate that sin is one variation of human behaviour. That’s why in order to join the club of those countries, you have to have a gay pride parade. If humanity accepts that sin is not a violation of God’s law, if humanity accepts that sin is a variation of human behavior, the human civilization will end there.”

Straw man anyone ? The age of Christianity is two thousand years old give or take a few decades, ,yes Christianity was not a religion during the pharaohs .If we go back further 100,000 years ago written language was not used by humans ,does that mean written language has not be used though out the ages by humans ? As long as Christianity has been around in it,s many different sects in Europe, Africa ,Asia and the Americas ,homosexual behavior has been consider a sin ,same sex marriage has not been acceptable. Did Christians have same sex partners in those times yes ,but it was consider not right by the laws of the church it is called living in sin and according to churches teaching against the law of God. You can have same sex marriages by civil law in most western countries with the same rights as a heterosexual couple ,just not get married in a Christian church .Forcing the churches to change their laws to justify your lifestyle choice is wrong ,you are free to follow the rules or not ,if that makes you angry or upset you are free to leave the church. There are bylaws and rules to many organizations ,many religions have rules diet rules ,pray rules, in modern society not following the rules of the Christian church will not get you jail time ,or fired from your job, or social nework ban ,or trouble getting housing ,or even accepted in society in general.

For those on the Left, and even some on the Right, who wonder why a lot of us on the Right don’t loathe President Putin, this is why! Had he been anything like Justin Trudeau or Jacinda Ardern, he’d be a folk hero! It’s worth noting that no Soviet era leader – not Stalin, not Brezhnev – was anywhere near as loathed by the Western Left like Putin is today
Incidentally, this is one place where the Left’s globalism breaks. While our own and Europe’s communists loathe Putin w/ a vengeance, the old school communists of Cuba, Nicaragua, Venezuela seem to have embraced Putin as the legitimate successor to Brezhnev. This despite the fact that the Communist Party of the Russian Federation – CPRF – is to this day an opposition party in Russia, not an ally of United Russia – Putin’s party
Incidentally, I daresay that for all it’s allegiance to the West and its desire to be a part of NATO and the EU, Ukraine still has socially more in common w/ Russia than it does w/ its wannabe allies. They don’t give a carte blanche to the LGBTQIA+ grooming crowd in Lviv any more than they do in Sochi

Also, while the Russian Orthodox Church is certainly better than any of the Protestant or Catholic churches for rejecting the Nicene Creed of Wokism, it would be nice if they also declared islam an enemy faith. After all, it’s not like the Chechens tolerated them, and I doubt that the -stans will either the more they islamize

Then, I have not actually heard of any Ukrainians who agree with the Russian social values of robbing, raping, and murdering civilians–do you have citations?

Putin is on record as having addressed this: he has always been very critical of Soviet leaders for transforming Russia from a monolithic state that it was under the Tsars, to a loose federation of republics that easily came apart once the CPSU regime ended. He has no love lost for communism, despite his KGB history. He’s been more a fan of the Romanov regime that ruled everything from St Petersburg to Vladivostok to Khiva to Yerevan
Also, while we may agree on the right of countries like the Baltic republics, Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova to secede from the Soviet Union/Russia, do you also think that applies to the -stans? If so, look at the Caucuses: Azerbaijan, which was very much kept in check during the Soviet regime, has become a pretty belligerent country on its own: claiming not just large parts of Armenia but also Iran’s Azerbaijan. You now have Turkey having wet dreams of having a Turkic empire across the Caspian Sea. All of this would have been inconceivable had the Soviets never made Russian Turkistan republics separate from the RSFSR. I’d submit that Putin was right on that one as well!

Well, homosexuality became legal in Ukraine in 1991. Then, there have been gay events in LGBT events in Kyiv, Odesa, Kharkiv, and Kryvyi Rih, and they have been protected by Ukrainian police. There have also been protests against these events, mostly by the Ukrainian Orthodox Church [Moscow Patriarchate] (separate from the Orthodox Church of Ukraine and managed by the Kremlin).
There has been *nothing* there like the Russian Chechen imprisonment and murder of homosexuals. And there is deliberate state persecution of homosexuals in the regions of Ukraine seized by Russia.
There is no same sex marriage in Ukraine, nor civil unions. But there have been petitions asking for its legalization, and last year President Zelensky asked the Government of Ukraine to consider legalizing same-sex marriage. Of course, nothing can be done so long as the country is being invaded.
More than half of Ukrainians agreed that gay, lesbian and bisexual people should enjoy the same rights as straight people, while 21% disagreed. In Russia in 2013 a survey found that 74% of Russians said homosexuality should not be accepted by society. So views between these nations do not appear to be completely identical.
Then, I think that most Ukrainians are concerned with the Russian invasion at this point, and consider Russian abuse of civilians to be the most pressing issue.
As for the Soviet Union, Putin may have hated giving the SSRs an out after the Soviet Union disintegrated, but this does not mean that he hated the USSR itself. In fact, he said, “The breakup of the Soviet Union was the greatest geopolitical tragedy of the 20th century”.
Putin has been inconsistent on communism; I think he mostly respects the Soviet Union’s brutish strength, in much the same way that he respects the Tsars and wants to be a latter-day example.
I’m not sure what to say about the “Stans. Certainly, Russia having a large Muslim population is very dangerous, but so is having independent Muslim states on their border.
Turkey is definitely a threat, as it long has been.
But the Faustian bargain made with Kadyrov of Chechnyan with a Shari;ah state right on Russian soil, seems a particularly bad deal. Not sure that this is actually preferable to their having seceded.
And Putin’s constant appeasement of not just Kadyrov, but Muslims throughout Russia is little better, including his building then a mega-Mosque right in Moscow and inviting Erdogan and Abbas to the opening.
He hoped to get thuggish Muslim soldiers to abuse civilians in Ukraine, but after a big show last year where Chechnyans seemed more intent on making Jihad videos than actually fighting, we have heard little about this.
I *do* think that the “woke” agenda and pushing transgender on children is terribly unhealthy, and I have said this her many times. I consider this an aberration, though, and not a intrinsic part of Western values as Putin pretends.
Then, divorce rates are actually *much* higher in Russian than in the rest of Europe and in North America.
And Putin has lauded Islam as a bulwark against the values of the West–this is true, if one applauds such horrors as child marriage. And here is Russia’s children’s rights ombudsman Pavel Astakhov, spouting apologia for child marriage, and claiming that women are “shriveled” at the age of 27.

Of course, Putin is also lauding kidnapping, rape, and murder as Christian values, which is rather troubling.
As for Patriarch Kirill, he has said that dying while killing Ukrainians “washes away all sins” and that committing genocide is a “test”. Ugly stuff.
