Not only are the Shi’ite Houthis trying to gain control of the whole of the country, but al-Qaeda also controls a small amount of territory and is working for the same goal, albeit with slimmer chances.
“In Yemen, 3 killed in clashes between suspected al-Qaida militants and pro-government forces,” by Ahmed Al-Haj, Associated Press, June 11, 2023:
SANAA, Yemen — Clashes between suspected al-Qaida militants and Yemen’s pro-government forces in the country’s south killed three men Saturday, a military official and tribal leaders said.
The fighting broke out Saturday evening when militants thought to be al-Qaida members attacked the United Arab Emirates-backed Shabwa Defense Forces near the town of al-Musnaiya in southern Shabwa province with machine guns, two tribal leaders and a military official said. The three spoke on condition of anonymity.
They said the gunbattle in the oil-rich province lasted for several hours, killing two Shabwa Defense Forces fighters and one militant before the militants finally withdrew.
Yemen’s ruinous civil war began in 2014 when the Iran-backed Houthi rebels seized the capital of Sanaa and much of northern Yemen and forced the government into exile. A Saudi-led coalition including the UAE intervened in 2015 to try to restore the internationally recognized government to power.
Al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula, also known by its acronym AQAP, is active in several regions of wartorn Yemen, including Shabwa and other far-flung provinces and is considered to be one of the more dangerous branches of the terror network….

So wonder which faction Fatima Mohammed and Mehdi Hasan support?

I hope we don’t send our military in or offer sanctuary to ‘help’. Once again we’d be helping out only to have it thrown in our faces sooner or later when their children or grandchildren re-write history and say we oppressed them and owe them reparations.
People need to begin learning a few historical facts. For example, when Colonialist Europe went into Africa the tribes were at constant war, Muslims were slaughtering & enslaving hundreds of tribes and taking over their lands. When Colonialism ended many Africans did not want Colonialists to leave….not yet….they were’nt ready. We see by evidence that was true…they were not ready
Slavery was abolished across the world because ENGLAND said no more. At great cost of treasure and British lives England was the catalyst that put end to slavery almost everywhere. What do the English get in return? Demand for reparations, to be sneered and looked at by nonwhites as evil. Same in America where there was a Civil War…..highest death toll in all American wars put together.
Hells bells. Why did we even bother?
