A UN ‘Peacekeeping’ Force for Gaza Would Be a Terrible Idea

Outsourcing security to the UN is not a plan.

The Biden administration is obsessed with post-war scenarios for Gaza.

There are roughly 4.

1. Israel reclaims some measure of control over Gaza

2. Hamas remains in power

3. The Palestinian Authority, another terror group, takes control over Gaza

4. A UN “peacekeeping force” secures the area

The EU and the Biden administration like 3 and 4. Having the PLO take over is a terrible idea. The PLO will demand some sort of concessions, likely state recognition, a lot more money and weapons, and will end up cutting some deal with Hamas.

But a UN force is almost a terrible idea.

First, despite all the talk about the Saudis or the UAE, neither are remotely likely to want the thankless job, and that’s even if Israel were foolish enough to allow foreign Muslim forces inside its borders. No Arab Middle Eastern nation is likely to go for it.

Second, Israel has learned a long time ago that turning over security to the UN combines sheer uselessness with enemy collaboration.

UN forces on the Gaza border and a divided Jerusalem in the 1950s, turned a blind eye to Islamic attacks only to pop up to condemn Israel.

Before major regional conflicts, UN forces routinely departed at the behest of the invading Muslim armies. They still do. When Hezbollah wants to attack Israel, the UN’s blue helmet brigades take to their heels.

A UN peacekeeping force would just act as shields for Hamas, denouncing Israel while doing nothing to stop the violence. We know that because it’s how UN peacekeeping forces have operated in the area since Israel’s rebirth. There’s a consistent pattern of useless coward and corrupt complicity.

Outsourcing security to the UN is not a plan.

  1. How about chopping off some of the northern end of Gaza, surrounding it with a security fence, and the UN troops are stationed within?

    If they come out on the Hamas side, Hamas shoots at them and if they come out on the North, Israel shoots at them. And the compound can serve as a testing ground for improved targeting of Hamas rockets.

    Problem solved. Business as usual.?

  3. I doubt whether Israel would be foolish enough to let the pro-Muslim, pro-Hamas United Nations be in charge of anything. After all, the scum from the UN took weeks to condemn the hamas atrocities against women in the Oct attack. I think Israel would be well and truly awake to what the scum from the UN are all about and that is support the MUslims.

    • Well stated and where was the UN when Hamas was digging tunnels and erecting missile launching pads?

      • Well that’s true, Ray. The other thing that I have heard commentators here in Australia mention is that the UN run schools where Palestinian children are taught to hate Israel to a ferocious degree. I think that the commentators made the point that our government was sending money to support these schools, so taxpayers are funding such evil schools and their brainwashing of Palestinian kids which a lot of Australian taxpayers would be very unhappy about. To my mind, the UN seems to be a pretty disgusting body that has an evil effect on things generally.

        • Tim, on a lighter note, having lived in Canberra for a little more than four years, I was never able to discover who Bob is. If you could tell me I would really appreciate it. ?

          Regarding the UN, I believe that most of here are of the same opinion, which is that all nations of the free world such as Australia, New Zealand, the UK, the US and the EU as well as Japan should withdraw and spend money more efficiently for ourselves.

        • I agree, Ray, that most free, democratic western countries should ditch the UN. It seems to be mostly a waste of space. I live in Sydney, have only ever bothered to visit Canberra couple of times in my life though I have travelled overseas, etc, as most Australians have. It just has no appeal for me. How did you enjoy your time in Canberra? Were you in the diplomatic service?. I can’t help you on the Bob issue. That went right past me but then a lot does. I tried to phone a friend of mine who might understand if it is some type of a joke, but couldn’t get in touch with him. He had lived in canberra and gets the place more than I do. I’m totally out of the loop I guess. Canberra, I suppose because it is so much a bureaucrats, public service type city, is pretty much the most left wing place in Australia. They always seem to elect left wingers and are very radical on all sorts of social agendas and crazy social experiments. I suppose it is because they rely on government money and know that left wing governments will always throw the money around and employ plenty of public servants. They seem to love far left Greens down there among Canberrans. All the best to you.

        After all, one of the hostages, at least one, was being held by a un ghoul in gaza.

    • Yes, I was posted to the Embassy as the senior network and cyber security officer but I traveled all over the Pacific and places such as Afghanistan, Pakistan and Thailand. I would drive to Sydney to work at the Consulate which was always a great drive. I remember working there during the 2000 New Year because of the worry about problems with networks and watching the bridge illuminated and the fireworks was fantastic. The question about Bob is sort of joke as when one asked a question, some of the Aussies would retort, “Who’s Bob.”

      By the way I congratulate your government for telling Biden to take a hike concerning the escalation in the Gulf.

      • do you mean “Bob’s your uncle”? which means somethings easy, borrowed from the Brits but widely used in Oz.

      • In one of the towns where I lived for quite some time, there was a tree and on it was a sign, “Bob’s tree.”

      • Thanks for the information, Ray. I can’t help you with the Bob saying, Ray, and I have never heard anyone say it. maybe it was a really, really localised saying among Canberrans. Maybe marc has it right. When you look into a lot of Australian saying they do come from England. I have heard the “Bob’s your uncle” saying but not for a long time. Almost gone out of use these days I suspect. The fireworks do look great mainly because Sydney harbour is so spectacularly beautiful whether during the day or in the night with the fireworks reflected on the water. I live a long way from the Harbour but occasionally go and see it and the beaches, etc. You know, on that idea of not sending a ship, I heard a commentator on defence matters saying that our defence has become so run down and inadequate that we don’t have ship that we could send, which is not a good thing at all. I see massive problems up ahead for Australia, which is still a terrific place to live, with China, that huge and increasingly dominant and bullying power in our region of the world. I’m old enough not to worry too much about it but, for younger people, I’d be worried about Australia’s future with China kicking all countries out here around. I just thought, that retort about Bob wasn’t something to do with your accent or some such weird thing, was it?

          I remember how John Howard ran your nation and it was great being there. One other thing about Howard is how well he and Kim Beazley worked together to accomplish a great deal. I think that a lot of our nations could learn from those two gentlemen.

  4. Last year alone the United Nations general assembly passed fifteen resolutions condemning Israel (this years figures will be much higher). One condemning North Korea, one condemning Syria, and one condemning Iran. There has never been a condemnation against the Palestinian authorities. Over the years Israel has received hundreds of condemnations from the UN.
    One can only come to the conclusion that hamas is not the only enemy of Israel, it has a much bigger one in the United Nations.

  5. I wouldn’t mind it if one day the UN headquarters gets invaded and that those biased Israel hating UN bureaucrats get dealt with. It would be so much fun to watch that footage. Maybe the mossad can arrange such a thing.

  6. My post-war scenario for Gaza – at a minimum:

    Israel takes back complete control of Gaza.

    All muslims are expelled from Israel – and no more work permits.

    • I absolutely totally agree with you James 100%. Get the lot of them out and let Israel take complete control of Gaza. This tiny Jewish state that only compromises 0.1% of the Arabian Peninsula is a blessing to the world.
