In 2019, NBC published a report, “Turkey’s attack on Kurds in Syria betrays those doing the fighting against ISIS — and dying.” But such is the character of Turkey in its ruthless pursuit of regional and global influence; its agenda includes a harsh crackdown on the Kurds. Turkey under Erdogan is essentially an aggressive jihadist country with ambitions of establishing a global caliphate. As the world’s eyes are on Gaza, Turkey now sees a golden opportunity to escalate its historic oppression and persecution of Kurds.
“With world’s eyes on Gaza, Turkey attacks Syria’s Kurds again,” by Amberin Zaman, Al-Monitor, December 7, 2023:
AMUDE/QAMISHLI, Syria — The Turkish drone hung silently in the late night sky, shining its light on a nameless hamlet close to a Russian military base south of Amude. The Turks usually targeted vehicles carrying military personnel. But they were ordinary people and had no reason to worry, thought Ronak Mohammed as she, her husband, Munir, and her brother Ciwan piled into the family car. Within minutes, the white Hyundai erupted in flames, shuddering violently as shrapnel and broken glass flew everywhere.
“The drone stayed there for an hour and a half after it dropped its bomb,” Mohammed recalled, as she sat stricken on the floor of her family home in Amude, her face swathed in bandages and her eyes filled with fear. Munir, who was driving, also survived the Nov. 23 drone strike with minor injuries. The couple had been married for a month. However, 35-year-old Ciwan, who sat in the passenger seat, succumbed to his wounds in the hospital, adding to the swelling list of civilians who have died in Turkey’s ongoing military campaign against Kurdish-controlled northeastern Syria. “Why did they do this?” she asked.
Turkey has long claimed that the Kurdish-led administration in northeast Syria and its military arm pose a threat to its national security because of their links to the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), and has since 2016 mounted three major ground offensives against the Kurdish-led zone occupying large swathes of territory. The escalation began after the government of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan ended peace talks with the PKK and with it a two-and-a-half-year-long mutually observed cease-fire, during which Syrian Kurdish leaders would frequently travel to Ankara as part of an envisaged deal that would incorporate Syria’s Kurds as well.
The United States’ military intervention in 2014 against the Islamic State (ISIS) on the side of the Syrian Kurds was a key factor in upending the talks as age-old Turkish fears of the United States’ purported agenda of creating an independent Kurdish state…….

We are ignoring what Turkey is doing in the same way that Western countries in the 1930s ignored what was going on in Germany. One day, Turkey will unleash a major Eurasian war. It has Arab allies like Qatar, Yemen, Somalia, Algeria & so on, it has Turkic allies like Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan & so on, it has islamic allies like Pakistan, Taliban, Malaysia. They have been interfering in their neighbors, be it Armenia, Iraq, Syria. If the Iran regime falls, I can see Turkey marching in to prevent a secular regime from taking over. That will give them a working sphere of influence that rivals the Timuride empire in the 15th century
If Turkey can’t be removed from NATO – and all the evidence suggests that it can’t – then NATO needs to be disbanded & Europe needs to do what it wanted, and create its own armed forces, or alliance
Ray Jarman says
Infidel, I could not agree more, especially about NATO being disbanded. That could solve many problems including the funding of a replacement organization.
Trump highlighted the European nations not putting into the pot their agreed percentage of the burden. I cannot attest to the present situation of Temporary Duty (tdy) funding but even in the early to mid-nineteen eighties, the US military performed most of the funding for travel to NATO sites from Belgium to perform inspections, conferences and upgrading of communications equipment at military bases where NATO forces were located such as Izmir, Diyarbakır, and other sites throughout Europe. The US even paid the salaries for the Turkish military working as military security guards at SHAPE, Belgium which no one complained as Turkey still possessed a Kemalist (secularist) government and operated in harmony with its partners for the most part. That has all changed now and as you stated, NATO needs to be disbanded along with American participation in the Un-United Nations.

The fact that the US has military bases in both Turkey & Qatar – which are as bad as Iran when it comes to internationally supporting jihad – is just maddening! I know why we can’t have it in Saudi Arabia, but at this point in history, I’d rather have military bases in Bulgaria or Greece, rather than the one at Incirlik. Similarly, for the Arabian Gulf, I’d rather have bases in the Emirates or Oman, if needed, rather than Al Udeid Air base. Instead, we have them in 2 of the worst actors of the region: it’s like having bases in Iran

No argument here, Infidel.

I’ve always thought Turkey would start its shenanigans in the Balkans, Greece, or Cyprus. But your scenario makes more sense. Bolster the Arab, Turkic countries, and Islamic alliances, consolidate power, then strike the non-Muslim world.

Yup…Erdogan is a dangerous man…

If only someone had the courage to stand up and call out Turkey’s genocide of the Kurds and last century’s first Holocaust of the Armenians (Bibi…are you listening??). Turkey has already crapped their dinner plate with their comments about Israel’s military campaign. Col. Richard Kemp, a former UK combat commander who noted that Israel has the most humane military in the world, added today that the ration of combatants to civilians killed in Gaza is 1 to 2 (one combatant to 2 civilians). Kemp stated in normal warfare, and since WW2, the ratio of civilians to combatants is around 1 to 9. Of course since Hamas conflates their terrorists to civilians in their questionable casualty count, that ratio of civilians deaths compared to combatants may be much lower.
Mick says
Sorry to repeat that Israel are the main arms supplier to the Shi’ite Azeris, who have killed thousands Armenians in NK, and expelled 100k stragglers.
Reasons:The Times of Israel wrote that Israel and Azerbaijan are staunch allies against Iran; 30k Jews live in Azerbaijan.

Hard to post a comment here…why…

Erdogan is a big-headed self-opinionated danger to the world, shame Turkey is in NATO. Untrustworthy as is anyone who wishes to bring about a CALIPHATE. Heaven forbid Turkey ever gets into the E U, 85 million more, no thanks.
OLD GUY says
Erdogan is an EVIL little man with visions of grandeur and himself being ruler of the world. Sick little bastard.
James Lincoln says
Erdogan seems like the current version of Saddam Hussein.
And he’s the leader of a NATO country?

There’s the trinity of God, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost (or Spirit). Now we could call that the “Good” side. And so what is the opposite of that? Well, since Satan loves to copy everything God does (for the purpose of people BELIEVING that they are following God, when their actually following Satan unknowingly), we now have the “evil” side, which is, Satan, the Antichrist, ad the False Prophet.
I have to agree with MANY theologians, or any teachers, that have studied the bible, and/or bible prophecy. for MANY years, in what they all agree on.
Satan, of course, will be himself. As for the Antichrist, people have been putting that label on certain, very evil men, for centuries. Even Hitler himself, was given the label of being the Antichrist. But as many of these evil men, have lived, and have now passed on, people STILL want to put the Antichrist label on who they see as very evil. I’m sure anyone reading this, have seen even Biden being called the Antichrist, a time or two. And I have to agree, he is very evil. But I cannot agree, as we are given, in our bible, the characteristics of this very evil person, who WILL BE the Antichrist.
And so, I can list these characteristics, of the Antichrist, on request, but perhaps you can ask what they are, with your computer, in a search box.
But what I, and many bible prophecy scholars/teachers/theologians, all agree on, whether right or wrong (as no one will really know, until he actually shows up in person), is the leader of Turkey, being the best choice for the Antichrist. And so we wait to see….as I sadly see the 7 year Tribulation coming right around the corner, and I’ll keep the idea of the when and how that comes, for another day.
And again, for who will be the last of the trinity, or the False Prophet, as this will be the “religious” arm of this evil trinity, I again, with MANY bible prophecy scholars, teachers, and theologians, all agree, that the Catholic pope, as evil as he shown to be, along with all the Catholic evil symbolism, throughout the church, will have the label of the “False Prophet”. As well known, throughout the whole world as he is known, and as members as there are, in this “religion”, how could Satan refuse, having this pope, by his side?
