Insight into the selective indignation involved in falsely accusing Israel of “genocide” while ignoring actual genocides can be found here: “The Real Genocides the World Ignores,” by Shoshana Bryen, JNS.org, January 19, 2024:
Rwanda: From April-July 1994, an estimated 800,000 people—one-tenth of the entire population—were killed and much of the remaining population displaced.
This was an attempt by the Hutus to hunt down and wipe out the Tutsis, not simply to expel them. That qualifies as a “genocide.” It finally came to an end when Tutsis managed to organize an armed resistance, leading the Hutus to agree to a peace settlement.
Bosnia: In 1992, more than 200,000 Muslim civilians were systematically murdered and two million became refugees at the hands of the Serbs. Rape was a systematic part of these atrocities.
This was a case of ethnic cleansing by the Serbs, who were determined either to kill, or cause to flee, the Muslims in Bosnia. Two million of those Muslims did flee.
Cambodia: From 1975-1979, 25% of the population died from starvation, overwork and execution under the Khmer Rouge.
This was neither ethnic cleansing nor genocide, but a case of politicide. The Khmer Rouge under Pol Pot tried, in their bizarre version of Mao’s Communism, to create a “classless society” by killing off the entire educated class of Cambodians, to reduce the populace to a single class of peasants, who would be the only ones left in the country at what Pol Pot called “Year Zero.” Despite the number of those who died, either killed or deliberately starved to death, this colossal murder never received the worldwide attention — with protest marches all over Europe and North America — that the so-called “genocide” in Gaza is now receiving.
East Timor: During a 24-year occupation by Indonesia that ended in 1999, more than 20% of the population was massacred and 80% of structures in the country were incinerated.
Guatemala: From 1978-1983, government forces carried out massacres and civilian executions of an estimated 200,000 people. There were at least 40,000 “disappearances.” The Maya population constituted 83% of the identified victims. The event is known as the Maya Genocide….
Did you read about the “Maya Massacre” in Guatemala at the time, or subsequently? No, neither did I. This was an attempt at “genocide.” Almost all of those killed were Mayans. They were not being forced out in an attempt at “ethnic cleansing,” but were being deliberately wiped out. Again, one wonders why so much more attention is given to the so-called “genocide” in Gaza than was ever given to any of.the genuine massacres and attempted genocides, with many times the number of deaths as in Gaza, including those in Bosnia, Rwanda, Guatemala, East Timor, Cambodia, Sudan.
China gets special mention.
The country’s 1958 “Great Leap Forward” destroyed the agricultural system, causing a famine in which 27 million people starved to death. This was not directed at a specific ethnic group, so it may not qualify as genocide; but in 2021, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken called China’s treatment of its Turkic Muslim Uyghur population a genocide.
Blinken is wrong to call China’s treatment of its Uighurs a “genocide.” The Chinese government is not trying to eliminate the Uighur people. Instead, it is attempting to weaken the hold of Islam on the Uighurs, by making it more difficult to practice Islam, tearing down mosques, prohibiting “religious beards,” supplying a sanitized version of the Qur’an that removes all references to the killing of non-Muslims, and placing one million Uighurs into re-education camps where an anti-Islam message is drummed into them. Some may find this policy to be deplorable, but it is not genocide.
Despite all these examples of mass killings, some of which rise to the level of ethnic cleansing, and others to the level of genocide, the international community prefers to focus on defaming Israel for daring to conduct a legitimate war of self-defense launched only after Hamas raped, tortured, mutilated, and burned to death 1,200 Israelis and carried off 240 more as hostages.
Will the International Court of Justice do the right thing, and absolve Israel of these accusations, so malevolently brought by the government of South Africa? The ruling ANC is trying to deflect its people’s attention from the country’s crumbling economy and endemic corruption, and onto that handy universal scapegoat, the tiny Jewish state that, for the fourth time in its life, after the wars of 1948, 1967, and 1973, is again fighting for its survival. Let us hope.

The rationale taken in this article is the wrong one vis a vis Israel. The reason, can be summed up in this simple sentence. Israel has NOT committed genocide by any definition of the term! Comparing Israel’s current activity to actions taken by other countries at different time periods only sows confusion and and creates a sense of legitimacy where there there is none.
Walter Sieruk says
That so called “International Court of Justice’ is in really doing a terrible injustice even considering those false and slanderous and libelous accusations of genocide against Israel when it was that demonic dangerous and deadly Jihad entity, Hamas that stated that current war in the Middle East by invading Israel, on October 7,th ,
For it was Hamas using its jihadists stooges then attempted to commit genocide against the Jewish people and the jihadists of Hamas even went further in heinous evil by kidnapping many Israel’s and raping many Jewish females . Those Hamas jihadist are so cruel and vicious that they even took Jewish infants and burned them to death while they were still alive.
In spite of all those facts, some despicable people want to exculpate Hamas from all is wicked jihad terrorism and release its jihadists from the monstrous Islamic evil that they have so vicious committed and are very guilty of.
To add to this m libelous and slanderous of false charges of genocide are made against Israel about it heads of government and the IDF.
Such charges are as absurd as they are also wrong. Those changes are very absurd.
Related to this, the Bible informs its reader that “Acquitting the guilty and condemning the innocent – – the Lord detests them both.” Proverbs 17:15. [N.I.V.]
Walter Sieruk says
The “international Court of Justice” is in reality dong the wrong thing, very wrong.
For that claim by the enemies of the Jewish State of Israel is a false completely claim.
One genuine newspaper had put it this way “One accusation is that Israel has engaged in genocide against the Palestinians. However, the facts show a vast increase in the Palestinian population, from 156,000 to 2,100,000 in Israel…” [1]

In recent history, there are many cases of genocide. When attending university, taking courses on crime, terrorism, law, etc. I had to write a paper on genocide and give examples. I found them to be sickening and so difficult to read and write about them.
There are so very, very many. But, from what has come out of Israel in the days and months since early Oct. of last year, it is ever more evident that the mozlums are the ones intent on genocide…and in fact, hamas has declared that to be their goal regarding the Jews.
to even be questioning this in the “international court of so-called justice,” shows just where the majority of the world stands on this subject.

Did the court or the UN intervene in any of the examples that Hugh Fitzgerald? NO. Only because the USSR was absent from the Security Council when the vote to protect South Korea did it pass. That is the only time that nations went to war under the UN flag. When Dag Hammarskjold was killed in 1961, the organization should have been dissolved as it has been irrelevant since that day.

Taliban in Afghanistan, Al Qaeda and Boko Haram in Pakistan, and Fulani militants in Nigeria are wreaking havoc. UNO has not yet made any effort to eliminate these terrorists.
The daily expenses of ISIS and other terrorist groups will require millions of dollars. But no attempt has been made to find out where the money for these terrorist groups is coming from, where the weapons and ammunitions are coming from, and to stop it.
There are no human rights available to the citizens of China, North Korea, Pakistan, Iran, and Saudi Arabia. Why UNO has not yet intervened in these matters and why not interested to save the citizens.
Poverty, hunger, famine, and starvation are rampant in Yemen, Nigeria, Somalia, Sudan, and other countries. But UNO is not interested to stop this.
Russian aggression in Ukraine but the UNO is a mute spectator unable to do anything.
Hamas fired more than 100 rockets on Israel on 7th October, nobody talks about the aggression but accusing only Israel.
But, the UNO is only concerned with homosexuals, transgender people, and abortion.
75 years have passed since the formation of UNO. Yet it did not attempt to achieve the main objectives of the fathers who created it. The first, second, and fourth objectives are about peace and tranquillity between nations. The third purpose is about hunger, famine, starvation, and disease. UNO should be interested in achieving its four main objectives.
But, UNO is going the other way. UNO is acting against its purpose. UNO has deviated from its main purpose.
The present world is moving against the Natural Order and Moral Order
Therefore, UNO must be restructured or abolished.
