Geert Wilders’ hopes of becoming prime minister of the Netherlands are becoming dimmer in the face of challenges to forming a coalition government. No one expected the talks to be free of obstacles since Wilders’ sweeping election victory in November, but now they’ve broken down altogether. Pieter Omtzigt, leader of the center-right New Social Contract (NSC), walked away from negotiations, thus stymieing “efforts to assemble a working alliance for his Party for Freedom (PVV).” While CNBC reported the reason for breakdown in coalition talks as “shock” over “the state of public finances” and “different financial expectations,” Islam has been a central issue, even if not the only issue.
The Guardian reports:
Besides Wilders’s unconstitutional anti-Islam proposals, the far-right provocateur’s pledges included ending the free movement of EU workers, increasing drilling for oil and gas, putting 14-year-olds before adult criminal courts, and halting military aid to Ukraine.
Wilders responded to the breakdown in negotiations: “The Netherlands wants this cabinet and now Pieter Omtzigt is throwing in the towel while we were still in discussions until today. I don’t understand it at all.”
The fear of fallout from Muslims is most likely the dominant reason for Omtzigt’s sudden departure and refusal to continue in discussions, since coalition governments are not new to disagreement among members on a range of issues, especially economics. The topic of Islam, however, is more daunting. It has defined Wilders’ entire career; he recently called for the recognition that “Islam is a violent ideology.” Recently, a UK government Minister, Mike Freer, suddenly quit due to Muslim death threats. Of course, his quitting was more urgent than Omtzigt’s.
The inconvenient truth is that Islamic texts are littered with calls to commit violence with the goal of conquest. These calls have been obeyed throughout the 1,400-year history of Islam, and continue to be. In early January, Wilders eased up on his position in order to accommodate ongoing coalition talks, withdrawing a 2018 proposal to ban mosques and the Qur’an. This showed his willingness to cooperate with a coalition.
According to France 24 News, “Wilders stunned the Netherlands and Europe by storming to victory in November’s election with an anti-Islam, climate-change-denying manifesto that would ban mosques and the Koran.” It added that Wilders “has already clashed with Omtzigt over parts of the Wilders manifesto seen as anti-constitutional, like its anti-Islam elements but also plans for a ‘Nexit’, or a Dutch exit from the EU.” Wilders’ win was a strong commentary on the Dutch people’s concern about mass Muslim migration, a challenge that Omtzigt and many other politicians may be ill-equipped to confront.
The West, with few exceptions, has kowtowed to Islamic interests for decades, with serious consequences — which will be felt further down the road. One can already see the upheaval in Western countries over pro-Hamas and pro-Houthi demonstrations following the savage jihad attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. As much as the establishment media and many politicians deny it, the goal of obliterating Israel is overtly stated in the Hamas and Palestinian Liberation Organization Charters, and it’s no secret that the Shi’ite Islamic Republic of Iran is behind such goals. Also, Sunni Saudi Arabia blamed Israel’s alleged “occupation” for Oct. 7. The Islamic world stands with the Palestinians; the few Muslim voices here and there who do not are on the periphery of Islam. They are not the issue.
Leftist and lukewarm conservative leaders are afraid of Islam, and have therefore resolved to surrender their countries to Islamic dominance. Fear of Geert Wilders and the potential fallout with Muslims remains overarching. Wilders will be hard pressed to find a party to form a coalition with, despite the fact that he was elected by the people. Let’s hope he sets a precedent and becomes prime minister despite all the obstacles.

The Dutch need to fall behind and give their full support to MP Geert Wilders on his stance against the Islamification of the Netherlands.
Not doing so you risk losing your country to an ideology which is oppressive and violent if you do not submit to their view of the world.
All Western countries need to unite in the pushback of Islam from their countries.

The leftist influence has to be neutralized first.

I totally agree with you! What is wrong with the Dutch? I assume that they liked the evil that the Nazis inflicted on them during WW2???? Wake up Dutch people and here in the USA are the dumb-damn Dems GOING TO EVER WAKE UP???? These groups of progressives lose my trust big time!

Honestly, given the system of exact proportional representation, I never expected Wilders to become prime minister. To do that, PVV would have needed 50+% of the seats, which I’m told no party can do. It’s also not worth coming to power w/ a minority: one is left at the mercy of supporting parties, and doing what they dictate. I think Wilders should let all the other parties form a coalition, & then dare them to continue the policies that have so endangered the Dutch people
Pray Hard says
The Netherlands has been on a destructive course for years. Very hard to turn around.

Yes Infidel, you did pick up on that. I remember reading one of your posts just after the election, were you clearly stated he needed more votes.
࿗Infidel࿘ says
Yeah, John, the British “first-past-the-post” system lends itself to a lot more stability. Even though it has the unfortunate effect of guaranteeing a Tory-Labour duopoly, where other parties like Britain First have no chance of coming to power

Good comments gents.
Whilst once it could have been considered ‘democratic’ even, the first past the post in the UK is now is now just a vote for 2 sides of the same country destroying coin.
Both sides are deeply infected with the pro islamic disease.
I feel sad for the lovely folks of the Netherlands, they had a real upswell of hope & positivity, with regards to pushing back against the islamic invasion.
Now it seems the light of hope has started to flicker somewhat.
& like the UK one day soon, Parliament might well just be one giant mosque.

@Infidel: I agree with you that Wilders should remain in the opposition, but I’m not so confident about daring them ‘to continue the policies that have so endangered the Dutch people.’ They wouldn’t blink an eye. Especially Mr. Omtzigt is what in Dutch is called a ‘dwarsligger’: a crossbeam with the intent to obstruct everything not originating from himself, and continually argues that Wilder’s ideas are unconstitutional. For a good comment on this point read Jeeves, below. What we need is a revision of the concept/idea of freedom of religion. This freedom was derived within a completely Christian arena, called Europe and has ab-so-lu-te-ly NOTHING to do with mohamedanism: zilch, because it is founded on the belief that, whatever practice may show, (Christian) religions are based on the search for and practice of the good/love. And this does not hold for mohamedanism. Therefore it must be argued that the freedom of religion can not be upheld for a ‘religion’ (pfff) which eggs its followers on to antisemitism, slavery, child rape and rape, cruel and unusual punishment and outright murder and genocide (a.o.t.). That is the only proper argument against Mr. Omtzigt. That and the renunciation of the Geneva refugee convention and art. 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights (right to family life/ family reunification), criminalizing most organized forms of migration to the EU, the requirement of double passports (so you can always refuse people with no passport and can always take the EU passport away and eject them). Things like that. We have to take these things into consideration. We must be constructive on our part.

Pieter Omtzigt walked away in, shock” over “the state of public finances” and “different financial expectations…”
Let’s see now….paying for non-assimilating migrants, giving away its unreplaceable military hardware, and funding a proxy war on credit to satisfy NATO demands? And you don’t want the debt and a lost war hanging around your neck? Rutte left you a big mess and is now moving on to a position in the EU where he can leave a mess for more EU states.
Is that what’s bugging you, Pieter? Got to top of the palace wall and discovered that behind the facade, it’s a shack?
Gird up the loins, Pieter, and join Wilders. There is no way out of the EU crisis but to get the nation on its own feet. The Golden Goose(Germany) is sick, deindustralizing, and can’t lay more eggs. Von der Leyen can strut but only lays Cowbird Eggs.

I once read a book by Mr. Covey. He was writing about leadership. He wrote: What’s good leadership? Climbing into the highest tree of the surrounding jungle, looking around you and shouting to the folks below: ‘Hey guys, wrong jungle!’

I hope that Wilders, who sees islam clearly for the evil thing it is, gets the chance to try to stop the rot in the Netherlands. Only Hungary, Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia have it right when it comes to islam. The average person in those countries seems to see islam and its followers clearly while, in western europe, they just can’t seem to get their act together. Time is running out and the citizens of Western European countries had better wake up soon because the Muslim takeover is happening quickly in those countries..

Jeeves says
The most problematic obstacle is formed by the constitutional protection offered to mohamedanism in the form of freedom of religion and freedom of speech. The problem is that protecting the constant incitement to violence against unbeliever, child rape, antisemitism, slavery, etc., etc. achieves the opposite effect, to wit: silencing criticism thereof, thus encouraging the incitements and the behaviours mentioned, in short encouraging criminal behaviour and punishing legal behaviour countering this. It’s a schizoid total legal overkill, with unintended effects.
We must urgently revise these concepts of freedom of religion and freedom of speech.
