Why is this news? Because the Birmingham Mail wants to normalize the idea that Islamic books must be treated with the utmost respect, even by people who are not themselves respectable.

A Muslim mother said she forgave a criminal who ransacked her car but left books central to her faith untouched. The woman, named only as Fatima, lost her son’s Nike sports bag and £25 in cash but the raider left two booklets about Islam neatly on the dashboard even as her son’s shinpads and gloves were flung all over the car.
The 33-year-old posted a video on Facebook of her car after the break-in. She captioned the video ‘Respectfully haram (forbidden)? When they break in to your car but put the Qaidah in a high place.’
Qaidah is an Islamic book detailing the Arabic alphabet. In Islam, some material containing religious text must be placed on high ground out of respect. The crime happened on the morning of Tuesday, April 23.
She posted the video online, urged the thief to get help and thanked them for placing her books in a respectful place.
Fatima, a graphic designer and Islamic teacher from Small Heath, said: “They still have respect for the Quran so there is still goodness in the world. I think one of my kids accidentally left the door slightly open as you really have to slam the doors….
