Will Sen. Schumer kill the bill? Probably.
First, the actual solutions to what’s happening on campus would be to
- deport foreigners supporting terrorists
- defund the departments are responsible for turning campuses into activism hubs
- restore order on campuses using state or federal law enforcement
2 out of 3 of those are evergreen and even the third would mostly apply to the BLM riots and other forms of political harassment.
The ‘Antisemitism Awareness Act’ falls far short of that. Despite the false claims on social media, it does little more than allow Jewish students to sue colleges for allowing harassment of Jews under the guise of ‘anti-Zionism’. It can also help roll back some of the pro-terrorist propaganda in the classroom.
Will it do that?
The actual bill, which few seem to have read, orders the Department of Education to exclusively use the IHRA definition of antisemitism as opposed to using it alongside other definitions. The practical upshot of the ‘Antisemitism Awareness Act’ would be force the Department of Ed to close the ‘anti-Zionism’ loophole, but in reality there’s no particular reason to think that the same bureaucrats ignoring campus antisemitism now will start taking it seriously now that the House passed a bill ordering it to.
Will the Senate even take up and pass the bill? Probably not.
70 Dems, including the Squad and most of the Left, voted against it. Sen. Schumer has indicated he’s not too excited about the people. Rep. Nadler being trotted out to attack the bill publicly suggests Schumer is getting cover to kill the bill.
The ‘Antisemitism Awareness Act’ is, like a lot of congressional legislation, probably doomed. It does provide grist for antisemites from the Left (and now from the Right) to spread conspiracy theories about it. (No, it does not criminalize the bible. An IHRA definition states that comparing Israel’s fight against Islamic terrorism to Jews killing Jesus is not a political criticism, it’s antisemitism.)
If the ‘Antisemitism Awareness Act’ actually becomes law (and I don’t believe it will), a Trump administration could appoint people who would actually use it as a tool to end some of the abuses by terror-supporting faculty in the classroom.
For now the vote on the ‘Antisemitism Awareness Act’ was revealing when 70 Democrats voted against a bill fighting antisemitism.
That’s what it amounts to and not much else.

I have read a couple of statements by R people as to why they said ‘no’ to the bill.
The Bible says that the leaders…the Sanhedrin, the Pharisees, the High Priest…handed Jesus over to the Romans to have Jesus put to death. The “leaders” back then were like many “leaders” in various churches are today. Wrong.
There were many Jews who were sorely grieved when Jesus was hanged for telling the Truth, and everyone following Him at that time, were Jews (although there were a few Gentiles who saw the Truth in what He said, they were not as yet disciples.)
Some people…not all, by any means….blame the entire nation of the Jews for what happened to Jesus. They may even continue in the blaming by including Jews who live today. That is foolish, just as blaming today’s descendants of slave-owners for slavery.
The reps whose statements I read, were concerned that this new bill would cause Christians to be arrested if they quote the Bible about Jesus being “handed over.”
And who can blame them for being concerned when so many laws are being misused in this time we find ourselves? biden has already shown his willingness to go after a Christian school; tacit approval given for bombing pro-life centers; and bo made a point of having the doj go after the little group of nuns for not insuring baby-killing.
It is not out of the realm of possibilities that the law would be misused against Christians; and not just the ones who hold today’s Jews responsible for Jesus’ death, but also ones who just quote the Bible.

It’s sad when so called “ Christians” blame Jews for Jesus death. These are false converts and most likely subscribe to replacement theology.
Our sins were the cause of Jesus death.
These 70 demons are acting true to their DEMONcRAT nature.
May judgement day come soon so they can make a feeble attempt to explain themselves before king Jesus.
The Istanbulian says
It’s just funny cause if Jesus hadn’t been handed over and crucified, he’d have just been another street preaching look. Are Christians really upset about that?

Anybody who blames the Jews for killing Jesus is an idiot and does not know their Christian theology.
It would make as much sense to blame the Italians or the current citizens of Rome. It was the Romans who crucified Jesus, the Jews had no authority to kill him as Judea was an occupied state of the Roman Empire.
Even more important, Jesus had to die as the sacrificial lamb of God to take the punishment for the sins of the world.
Jesus was a Jew (descendant of King David), his disciples were Jews. The first Christians were Jews who heard the Gospel in their own languages on Pentecost and 3,0000 came to faith that day.
The “Palestinians have had multiple offers of a two state solution and rejected them all. The first offer in the 1920’s was the most generous, offering 80-90 % of the current geographical area of current day Israel and the Palestinians said “No” because they will never agree to Jews being in this area at all.
They want the Jews gone. They probably want all Jews dead. Why? Because the Jews were the “strongest in opposition to Allah.” That is what the Qur’an says and the only provocation they need. I despair of any two state solution.

One thing about your comment….Pilate asked the priests and the Sanhedrin what they wanted done with Jesus and they said they wanted him crucified. Pilate offered to let Jesus go, but they insisted they wanted the criminal Barabbas released.
And when these same ones wanted Pilate to put a guard on the Tomb, he told them that they had a guard and do as they wished
So, these Jewish leaders didn’t have full autonomy, but they did have a measure of authority over their own people.
Matthew 27 and Mark 15 Luke 23 gives the added information about how many times Pilate offered a release of Jesus and that he even sent Him to Herod for examination.
John 18 records that Pilate told them to judge Jesus according to their “own law.” But they said they had no authority to put Jesus to death. This part was so the prophecies about Jesus’ death would be fulfilled. They already had “judged” Him in an illegal night court.
The “vipers’ of the priests, the pharisees, the Sanhedrin were insistent that Jesus be put to death. These men could have saved Jesus from hanging, but they wanted Him dead.
But the Romans carried out the deed.
