NYC: ‘Palestine’ scrawled under ‘Israel’ in Biblical quote at synagogue

The vandal doesn’t realize it, but the Biblical quote undermines the whole claim that the “Palestinians” are the indigenous people of the region. Or maybe he does.

The Park Avenue Synagogue was vandalized on Friday with pro-Palestinian graffiti, according to the New York City house of worship.

The synagogue said on Instagram on Friday that it was disheartened to announce that its building was defaced, adding, however, that the synagogue was secured ahead of Shabbat services that evening.

“It is shocking, and it is distressing, and it is a reminder of the world outside and what we face as a Jewish community in this moment of time,” Rabbi Elliot Cosgrove told his congregation at the Friday night services.

A crowd gathered outside of the Manhattan synagogue to show solidarity with the congregation, according to

Cosgrove, who urged congregants to be agents of change against the rise of hate in the country.

According to pro-Israel activist Hen Mazzig, the excerpt of the biblical figure Balaam’s blessing (Numbers 24:5) on the synagogue’s facade was defaced. A photograph that he published showed that “Palestine” was scrawled under the word “Israel” in the quote, “How great are your tents, O Jacob, your dwelling places, O Israel.”…

  1. Vandalizing a place of worship shows nothing but hate, ignorance, and stupidity. Within certain age groups we appear to have a surplus of such.

  3. All of the synagogues and churches will need to install cameras…hidden from the perp’s view…so they can give the pics to the police. Vandalism is still a crime, no matter who is responsible.

The following is crystal clear to me, to wit, being pro-Palestinian is just another way of being anti-Semitic, just as being anti-Zionist is a thinly veiled way of also being anti-Semitic (and never mind that Zionism created the only free polity in the Middle East, where some two million Israeli-Arabs, the vast majority of whom are Muslim, enjoy far more freedoms than do Muslims in any other part of the Islamic world—courtesy of that, oh yeah, oppressive “ism” known as Zionism).

    First of all, there was never a “Palestinian people.” Second of all, the whole Palestinian people rot only goes back to the 1960s. Third, all of this Palestinian people shit is just one more way to delegitimize Israel. Fourth and finally, if one knew the history of the modern Middle East ( a big “if” lost on so many of the rubes now demonstrating on American college campuses), they could only conclude, if fair minded, that after the ending of the Ottoman Empire in WWI, then so much of said decrepit empire was fair game and the Jews ended up with only a tiny sliver of this once immense empire but then Jews having anything, let alone a real nation, is not allowed per Islamthink or, even more sadly, Western Leftthink. Oh yeah, a connection here because both Leftism and Islam are totalitarian ideologies and thus free polities like Israel are verboten.

    Long live Israel. And kudos to the IDF, the more moral military in history.

      • Wellington, I believe it’s AI. I know many times I have written a word and I look back and the word has been changed. Not only does it try to decide what I wish to write, but it goes on to change what I have written. I’ve seen it happen time and again.

        • Enemies seemingly are everywhere, eh, somehistory? Well, I don’t want to be paranoid, far from it, but there is that old line about just because you are paranoid that doesn’t mean they’re not out to get you (the forces of evil and of fools aplenty are certainly out to get Trump).

          I thank you for your comment, which tended to exculpate me but, honestly, in this particular instance I believe the mistake was definitely mine. After all, a hall mark of conservatism is owning up to one’s own mistakes, contra Leftism. As examples, when has Biden apologized for anything—or AOC—or the Wicked Witch of the West, i.e., Nancy Pelosi, or Senator Cheeseburger, aka Senator Schumer?

        • I agree, Wellington. I know sometimes I make mistakes (every day, I have to cry some, as in the song), but I have seen the ai thingy with my own eyes, so I know also that some of the errors are not my own. This is likely true of you and others here.

          My daughter and I had to laugh over the ‘cheeseburger’ incident. She prepares great cheeseburgers, but she always waits for the meat to be done before adding the cheese.
          Schumer’s cheese would have ended up in the coals.
          And his “daughter’s wife”…icky and worse than the burned cheese.

          Yes, many are the errors which are dismissed so easily by some….the ones you listed and more…and many are the things that they commit on purpose.

          The family is doing pretty well. I hope the same for yours. With no credit given to those fools in charge of things and the direction pursued so vigorously toward the abyss.

      Re: Islamthink. For supremacist Muslims, it’s even unlawful for the North Sentinelese to have their own little island near India, with their own language and culture, presumably. No! Those people need to be massacred, raped and pillaged, and forcibly converted to Islam, and made to speak Arabic.

    • You say this most eloquently. What was left after WWII were the Muslim Brotherhood who were allies of the Nazis and who are today’s Hamas.

  6. If “Israel” is writen at a mosque, it will be a hate crime. If “Palestine” is writen at a synagogue or a church, it is only vandalism according to the west authority. Of course according to Islam, it is a jihad act rewarded by the devil pretending as Islamic god.

    • True ,but we live in a two or three tier system in America according to how violation to laws are applied what are the charges that applied .. If you are higher up on the victimhood scale or a member of the victimhood party (democrat) your crime is down graded .If you are not on the victimhood scale or not registered that high on it you are “the oppressor “.If you are the “oppressor” little or no evidence is needed to either jail you or fine you into bankruptcy .Our currant system of justice is very much like progressive sharia keeping anyone who publicly disagrees with the progressive democrats with the fear of losing their jobs if they not only express an open opinion against the democrat’s agenda ,but do not pander hard enough with company woke policies ..

  7. In addition to the biblical verse in the photo, let me add something that some readers of this space will know. Israel is mentioned 47 times in the Quran (e.g. Q.2:40); Palestine not once.

    • And those things say a heck-of-a-lot. More than just the two words might seem to say.

    • Jerusalem is mentioned all over the Bible.It is of key importance in Biblical prophecies so much so that it has a lethal warning associated with it :Zechariah 12 v 9

    Yes–this ancient quote proves that Jews have lived in the Levant for thousands of years–far longer than the Islamic conquest. I doubt that the perp would care, in any case.
