Both patriots and leftists know that Gavin Newsom has transferred California from a national paradise to a crime-ridden hellhole. Democrats are so aghast at the result that they’re touting Newsom as presidential timber, whether as a stand-in for Dementia Joe this November or for The Cackler in 2028. Patriots have taken a dimmer view and will think even less of Newsom’s California after some recent events in the state capital.
The Sacramento Bee reported Tuesday that “the Sacramento City Attorney’s Office warned a chain retail store that it could face a public nuisance charge due to a large number of phone calls placed to police when thieves repeatedly stole from its Land Park location.” Yes, the Attorney’s Office is not going after the thieves. It’s going after the store for reporting the thefts. This is what it means to get tough on crime in Newsom’s California.
As you might expect in light of the fact that vengeful leftist authoritarians run the once-Golden State today, this news comes from “a person with knowledge of the warning who wanted to remain anonymous out of fear they could be retaliated against.” This source said that Sacramento officials “warned they would issue an administrative fine to the Target at 2505 Riverside Boulevard in Land Park, during the past year.” Nor does this information come from a single source alone: “A police spokesperson confirmed the location to the publication after being asked about the alleged warning.”
In fact, Sacramento’s threat to the Target outlet was so egregious that even the leftist apparatchiks in the state legislature were moved to act. Fox News reported Tuesday that “after learning about the city’s warning and comparable actions across the state, state lawmakers added an amendment to a retail theft bill, outlawing these types of threats toward businesses from authorities.”
That’s good, but the core problem still remains — Proposition 47, which California’s addled voters approved in 2014. It classifies retail theft under $950 as only a misdemeanor, which in practice has meant that police often don’t respond to calls involving minor theft at all, as they have many, many more serious crimes to deal with. As a result, flash mobs engaging in smash-and-grab robberies have become common in California, and stores such as Target have no recourse. They simply have to absorb the loss.
Public dissatisfaction with this corrosive and ridiculous law has grown steadily. Los Angeles’ KTLA reported last week that a sign appeared in San Francisco in late June outside of a tony Louis Vuitton outlet: “NOTICE: Stolen goods must remain under $950.” Many apparently assumed that city authorities had placed the sign there, so KTLA felt the need to inform its readers that the sign “was not official” and had been removed, which was not surprising. Authoritarian leftists cannot stand to be mocked.

The problem w/ the Dem lawmakers in Commiefornia, whether Civic leaders or legislators, is that they speak w/ both sides of their collective mouth. On one hand, they relax all the laws thereby encouraging shoplifting upto – what’s it now – $499 or $999? On the other hand, they bitch about the stores not having tighter security, thereby encouraging shoplifting
In San Francisco, from what I read, since I have been fortunate enough never to live there, even during my time at Silicon Valley – a number of pharmacy stores like Walgreens, Rite Aid, etc have closed due to this. One fallout of it is that elderly people who live there, who depend on these stores not just for their meds but also for some daily groceries, now have nothing in the nearby vicinity. Even far, it’s still pretty bad: I was shocked several months ago to read about shoplifting activity in San Jose, which was pretty benign in the 90s & 00s when I lived there
All these national chains, be it Walgreens, Rite Aid, Nordsroms, Gap, et Al should simply shutter in California and pull out. Let Californias either order online, or drive to places like Vegas, Reno, Blythe AZ, etc to buy whatever they need. Only that will finally make the Dems unpopular enough that they’ll be voted out even by the losers who keep voting them in

From the headline I saw, it was a Target store….a place where I have never shopped…which was warned about reporting crime.
What are the police for if not to arrest criminals? What are prosecutors for if not to prosecute criminals, and judges for if not to sentence the guilty?
And what is a “governor,” state ag, or others in office for if not to work for the law-abiding citizens?

I think it’s been quite a while since the “Golden State’ was a “national paradise” but I could be wrong. (I WAS wrong once…I thought I was mistaken but I was wrong.)
It seems to me that if Target is subjected to so many robberies that reporting them to the police is so frequent that it drives the police to distraction I’d suggest Target beef up its security.

How? California has a law by which it does not prosecute thefts of particular amounts, probably $999. So if the security staff of a store catches a thief and turns him over to law enforcement, they typically drop charges against him b’cos he didn’t try & steal enough. To exacerbate the situation in several cities, you have the Soros DAs, like George Gascoigne in Los Angeles (Chesa Boudean in San Francisco at least got recalled) who just refuse to press charges against any criminals (except for anti-woke crimes). So if the store security catches a thief and he’s back the next day, probably even armed, that just makes it more dangerous for them. Some stores have made the solution locking up practically everything, not just the most valuable
In fact, it’s not just California. I have worked in Retail in Virginia, and one of the rules we sales staff had was to not try & disrupt a theft happening, but to just report it to security. In fact, I have heard horror stories about salespeople who tried to prevent a theft, and got terminated for their trouble. When you have a climate that rewards bad behavior, not only are you going to get more of it, you’re even disincentivizing good behavior, such as protecting the company property
All these thieves think that insurance companies will eat the costs. That may happen once or twice, but after a while, insurance companies, who too are in the business of making, not losing money, will push back & demand accountability from their hapless clients for not doing a better job of getting robbed. So the store in question is squeezed from all ends – a government that won’t lock up the criminals that they turn over, the same government demanding that they implement better security while dinging them for calling them too often, insurance companies that refuse to reimburse them after a while (I’m actually surprised that any Insurance company still covers property theft in California)
Which is why, as I expressed above, it’s a wonder that there are any stores left standing

Grime has been steadily getting worse in California over the last decade! For instance, San Francisco used to be very clean, but now you cannot take two steps without treading into human poop or drug detritus!
Even regular grime is out of control in California. It’s so scummy, that even Whizz-bowl-ahh may compare favourably with it before long! Well, perhaps not.
Really, Mr. Spencer, you don’t know as much about California as you think you do. You probably think that Harvey Milk was a dairy producer!
Please stick to grime that YOU know and let others stick to grime/crud/dirt that THEY know! Alrighty??

Anything above fifty dollars should be considered larceny.
A misdemeanor is shoplifting a chocolate bar, a small bag of potato crisps, or a pack of chewing gum. Or, committing fraud by using a few low-value foreign coins in a vending machine.
Even THAT is wrong, and people should be arrested, called out and fined for it.
But then, a lot of Leftists in California and elsewhere think it’s all right to openly deal narcotics, or to openly shit and piss all over the sidewalks, streets and doorways (and in front of businesses), so who gives a fig about shoplifting?

That proposition got voted on & passed years ago by the citizens of California. It’s therefore not so much the residents of the state that I sympathize with: I don’t. I sympathize w/ the store owners and employees, who have to live w/ this criminal activity voted on by their fellow citizens

Anything over 1 dollar should be counted as major theft. There is only one way to stop theft – use the law. If the law allows theft then change the law. If Newsome won’t change the law then arrest Newsome. America is supposed to be an advanced country but if stores are closing because of theft and lack of police action, something is wrong.
