“The review found in March that Meta’s rules on ‘shaheed’ failed to account for the word’s variety of meanings and resulted in the removal of content not aimed at praising violent actions.”
This is a lot of hooey, for in an Islamic context, being a martyr doesn’t mean simply dying for one’s faith. The Qur’an promises paradise to those who “kill and are killed” for Allah (9:111). That’s what being a martyr involves: killing infidels. This is particularly the primary meaning during the present war. Facebook is just bowing to its far-left pro-jihad base, while continuing to censor foes of jihad terror into oblivion.
“Meta to end ban on the word ‘shaheed’ on oversight board’s recommendations,” Reuters, July 2, 2024:
July 2 (Reuters) – Meta Platforms (META.O), opens new tab said on Tuesday it would lift its blanket ban on the word “shaheed”, or “martyr” in English, after a year-long review by its oversight board found the social media giant’s approach was “overbroad”.
The company has been criticized for years over its handling of content involving the Middle East, including in a 2021 study Meta itself commissioned that found its approach had an “adverse human rights impact” on Palestinians and other Arabic-speaking users of its services.
Those criticisms have escalated since the onset of hostilities between Israel and Hamas in October.
The oversight board, which is funded by Meta but operates independently, started its review last year because the word accounted for more content removals on the company’s platforms than any other single word or phrase….
The review found in March that Meta’s rules on “shaheed” failed to account for the word’s variety of meanings and resulted in the removal of content not aimed at praising violent actions….

Any comment against muslims is censored, but any anti-semitism is welcomed.

When is facebook going to censor pro-hamas and antisemitic rantings ?
bagsgroove says
Why are there so many anti-israel rants on facebook. Clearly facebook has a pro-muslim tendency.

I don’t use fb, don’t read other’s stuff and am greatly irritated that it is on my phone and I am not allowed to remove it.
I’m not about to *pay* someone, through ads, to censor my thoughts.
Helping the idiot billionaire to hide the evils of islam is not something I wish to do.

I don’t use Facebook, since I was banned from it years ago for following a computer game called “Murder in the Alps”. But I do have WhatsApp, and the only reason is that all my family & relatives have it, and it is the only inexpensive way to communicate w/ them especially when we are continents apart. Unlike in the US, other countries charge for texts, and even more if the text is multimedia. Whereas WhatsApp simply relies on internet connections but not much more
Problem now becomes that Facebook freely imports that WhatsApp data, be it phone numbers, images, videos, and one becomes part of Facebook again w/o wanting it. I do have relatives on Facebook but I’m not there myself, except maybe in images of other people

“Shahid” does not mean martyr. It might as well be an imported English word, since no English word captures its meaning. “Shahid” means a muslim who dies waging a jihad, while a muslim who kills waging a jihad is called a “Ghazi”. Would anyone substitute “ghazi” for “holy warrior”?
