The wife of late Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi is set to be hanged after an Iraqi court on Wednesday issued a death sentence against her for committing “crimes against humanity,” genocide against the Yazidi people and “terrorist actions.”
Asma Mohammed was arrested in Turkey in 2018 before being handed over to the Iraqis last year, The Associated Press is reporting, citing court and security officials.
Bill Roggio, a senior fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies and the editor of its Long War Journal, told Fox News Digital that in Iraq, “there’s a lot of jihadists and their family members in prison” and that “this is how Iraq appears to be going to deal with it, at least with the high-profile detainees.”
“It’s highly likely that given how family members of senior leaders were involved in terrorist operations, propaganda, it’s likely that she is involved,” he added.
However, he also suggested that Mohammed’s hanging “will be used by the Islamic State as recruiting fodder,” with the terrorist group potentially aiming to turn her into a “martyr.”
Iraqi officials allege ISIS gangs kidnapped women of the Yazidi religious minority and that Mohammed held them prisoner in her home in Mosul, according to Reuters.

Frankly, Who actually gives a damn. It’s one less potential terrorist. The mere fact she stood by him for decades, comforted him when operations went wrong and maybe even bore his offspring is reason enough. I doubt she would protest if she saw an Israeli hostage being executed.

A girl who had worked in Saudi Arabia as a housemaid told me that it was the wive(s) of her employer who tortured her because she was afraid that her husband dumped her for the housemaid. In another case, a foreign female was tricked to marry a Saudian and moved to Saudi. Then his other wives tortured her, probably for the same reason.
So seems like the surrounding makes the Arab wives becoming cruel and mean. But I have no symphaties for those wives, they are as evil as their male counterparts. They are as responsible as their male family members for torturing foreign workers (and wives), thanks to Islam the most evil religion.Probably millions of women from my country have been tortured, cheated and abused in Arab countries with the help of muslims in my country.

I am against her execution. I think murder is the only acceptable justification for the death penalty, and there is no evidence that this woman killed anyone. I read several years ago that she had treated Kayla Muller (whom her husband had brought into their home as a sex slave-concubine) and several Yazidi girls, badly. Assuming it’s true, it’s not a capital crime by most lights. I thought like you, from the time I read it, that she was doubtless just a housewife and mother. Not an Isis enthusiast. Are they assuming she was deeply involved, like the San Bernardino couple? No such evidence has been presented. Al Baghdadi does not seem to have had a close relationship with her, but charted his own course. The Iraqi court said she was a member of Isis and committed crimes against humanity. That she failed to liberate the Yazidi girls. I think nearly everyone living in ash-Sham at that time at least gave lip service to Isis. We all know what happened to those who didn’t. Large numbers sincerely supported the new caliphate, which closely adhered to sharia law. But even though millions of former Nazis lived in Germany after the war, only a tiny number was tried for war crimes. The same here. How could this woman have freed the Yazidi girls? She says she tried to escape herself, but was stopped by the guards. I think she is a traditional Muslim woman, Kirche, Küche, Kinder. It would be unjust to kill her because of the sins of her husband, who blew up himself and one of their children. She has suffered enough, and should be allowed to live quietly with relatives. The Iraqi government should not take out their fury at al Baghdadi on her.
