The New York Times today has a huge puff piece on Tariq Ramadan by Deborah Sontag. Ramadan is the self-proclaimed moderate Muslim who was going to teach at Notre Dame this year until DHS revoked his visa. The Times piece doesn’t say anything new, but it makes it clear that his being denied a visa by DHS has made him into the latest darling of the Left: free Mumia! Admit Tariq!
This illustrates the dangers of anti-anti-terrorism. Sontag’s article shows no awareness of the Islamic doctrines of taqiyya and kitman, religious deception (see Qur’an 3:28 and 16:106). It assumes that DHS is acting for base political reasons. It underscores the necessity, given today’s political climate, for DHS to reveal why they have barred him from the US.
Instead, the article concludes by saying that Ramadan has been invited to reapply for a visa. Ten to one he gets it this time, and the whole thing will make DHS look like the Keystone Cops. Well, they have brought it upon themselves.
