“Copenhagen Retreats in Cartoon Crisis,” from Zaman.com, with thanks to Kaosktrl:
The Danish administration’s retreat of its support for the insulting caricatures of Prophet Muhammed that appeared in the daily newspaper Jyllands Posten, mellows the tension between Denmark and the Muslim world.
The Copenhagen administration signaled a pull back when the Islamic countries, the United Nations (UN) and the European Union (EU) showed fierce reaction.
Different religions should be approached with tolerance; the Danish government respects Islam as one of the most vital religions, said the Danish Foreign Minister Per Stig Moller in a telephone conversation with the Secretary-General of The Arab League, Amr Moussa.
Denmark would never opt for a clash of civilizations, insisted Moller, agreeing with Moussa over the need for mutual respect between different religions as well as for politicians to keep away from participating in the press.
