This is the kind of law that Dearborn’s Sheikh Husham Al-Husainy wants to bring to the United States. Far too many Americans support this, having bought the idea that “hate speech” does not and should not enjoy First Amendment protections. The problem is the hate speech is in the eye of the beholder. For al-Husainy and the Malaysian government, any speech that transgresses against Sharia blasphemy laws constitutes hate speech. If he and his allies succeed in enshrining that principle in American law, it will be the end of the United States as a free republic, and the establishment of Islam as a protected ideology that cannot legally be criticized.
