“The effect of liberty on individuals is that they may do what they please: we ought to see what it will please them to do, before we risk congratulations.”
-Edmund Burke
I’ve just read that Omar Khadr is suing the Canadian government for 20 million dollars. As it turns out, the Muslim who travels abroad to engage in terrorist activities, or simply to take tea with terrorists, can make a lot of money upon returning home. For every Muslim suspected of terrorist activities or associations—and subsequently arrested and interrogated because of those suspicions and associations—there is a tow-truck lawyer waiting in the wings to cash in on the prospect of suing the Canadian government for untold millions.
After being arrested by American authorities and sent to Syria for interrogation, and after receiving 10.5 million dollars from the Canadian government for its alleged complicity in his “ordeal” in Syria, Maher Arar intimated (via video satellite) to American oversight committees back in 2007 that, “I now understand how fragile our human rights and freedoms are, and how easily they can be taken from us by the very same governments and institutions that have sworn to protect us. I also know that the only way I will ever be able to move on in my life and have a future is if I can find out why this happened to me, and help prevent it from happening to others.” Arar, apparently, fails to comprehend that such misfortunes befell him because of his business with Abdullah Almalki (an associate of Ahmed Khadr, an Egyptian-born Canadian and alleged senior associate of Osama bin Laden, and also father of Omar Khadr), with whom he dined at an Ottawa restaurant back in 2001. But as it turns out, Canadian and American intelligence organizations are not to be alarmed if Muslims keep company with suspected al-Qaeda terrorist operatives or their friends.
Now, after being exonerated by a Canadian tax-payer funded 23 million dollar commission named after him, Mr. Arar is litigiously free to make bold tweets like, “T. Blair justifies the invasion of Iraq bc S. Hussein was killing ppl. Using the same argument can Iran invade Israel to remove Bibi?” As a university professor he apparently considers himself qualified to promote his many devoted twitter fans and their notion that in Western democracies all white people are evil and therefore free of police harassment and only non-whites (but not necessarily black Jews), are subjected to such misfortune; that all Muslims arrested for suspected terrorist activities are “mentally deranged” and are merely being “entrapped” by government security apparatus.
In a recent National Post article it was revealed that “…the Senate security and defence committee said some foreign-trained imams have been spreading extremist religious ideology and messages that are not in keeping with Canadian values…” The report “is urging Ottawa to explore options for the training and certification of imams as part of a wide-ranging set of recommendations aimed at confronting the threat of terrorism.” The article points out, however, that the report “represents the views of the Conservative majority but lacks the backing of Liberal members…” No surprise there. Canadians familiar with the direction the Liberal Party of Canada has been headed with Justin Trudeau at the helm (which is into the dark night of vote-whoring) will not be shocked by such multiculturalist naiveté and obduracy.
An expected objector to the committee’s urging is Ihsaan Gardee, executive director of the National Council of Canadian Muslims. He complains that, “We are deeply concerned by the suggestion that imams require a special vetting as opposed to any other faith.” Well, Mr. Gardee, it just so happens that, as the report noted, it is only Muslim imams—not Christian preachers or Jewish rabbis—“spreading extremist religious ideology.” The only connection Christians and Jews have in this matter is the fact that they are primarily the targets of the extremist religious ideology these “foreign-trained” imams are spreading. Gardee laments that the very suggestion “portrays them as a threat rather than a partner in national security.” How can Canadians be so rude? 18 Muslims plan to behead our prime minister, another shoots an unarmed honour guard at our National War Memorial in Ottawa, another runs over and kills a Canadian soldier, “93 had sought to join Islamist extremist groups” abroad, and we have the audacity not to allow your ‘foreign-trained” clergy carte blanche and into the fold of our national security family. What were we thinking?
“We are in bondage to the law in order that we may be free,” wrote Cicero. But exploiting these laws for the sake of Islam’s imperialist agenda, which is the subjugation of all non-Muslim peoples, is not the freedom Cicero had in mind, I’m sure. The freedoms provided by Western democracies were never intended as an agency of opportunity for those violently opposed to these freedoms. But this is what is happening today: we have Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas and Hezbollah flags being waved around in downtown Toronto, across the street from the Israeli Consulate, by Muslim activists who are not the least bit ashamed of openly supporting these terrorist entities whose vision of the future Middle East does not include Jews and the State of Israel; whose Quranic vision of the future in a world ruled by an Islamist Caliphate promises a violently systematic oppression of all other religious. Hence Efraim Karsh warned, “…the fact is that the fuel of Islamic imperialism remains as volatile as ever, and is very far from having burned itself out.”
So, as regards these particular Muslim religious of today, we have seen what they are pleased to do, and it is not to uphold democratic traditions. Democratic traditions for them are merely opportunities of exemption from prosecution in order that they may promote hatred primarily against Jews and Christians, but also against those Muslims of dissenting opinions. And it is common knowledge that certain imams are preaching extremism from their mosques here in Canada (never mind the virulent antisemitism being propagated from the Arab world via the internet). I’m sure Ihsaan Gardee is quite aware of this but feigns ignorance. I’m sure also he perceives that Canadians—real Canadians—, and especially those involved in the administration of our national security, are not ready to risk congratulations just yet.
