Without Islam, the United States would not exist.
That’s right: without Islam, the United States as we know it would not exist.
No, Reza Aslan has not knocked me over the head with a rock and taken over the writing of Jihad Watch, using my name. It’s absolutely true: if it weren’t for Islam and Muslims, the United States would not exist today.
Every schoolchild knows, or used to know before public school curricula became far too concerned with teaching microaggressions and diversity to bother with marginalia such as history, that in 1492 Christopher Columbus sailed the ocean blue and discovered America.
Why did he sail the ocean blue? Because he was searching for a new, westward sea route to Asia.
Why was he searching for a new, westward sea route to Asia?
Because the fall of Constantinople to the Muslims on May 29, 1453 closed the trade routes to the East. This was devastating for European tradesmen, who had until then since time immemorial had taken the land route through Constantinople and Anatolia to travel to India and trade for silk, spices and other goods. But when the Muslims conquered Constantinople, these tradesmen would have been taking their lives into their hands if they traveled by these ancient routes. As non-Muslims in Muslim countries, they would have been subject to being taken hostage, or enslaved, or forcibly converted to Islam, or killed outright.
Either there was going to be no more European trade with India, or a new route had to be found.
Columbus’s voyage was trying to ease the plight of European merchants by bypassing the Muslims altogether, and making it possible for Europeans to reach India by sea. And of course, as every schoolchild knows or used to know before valuable class time to teach about the inherent racism of the United States was no longer wasted on such trifles, this is why Native Americans were and often still are called “Indians,” because Columbus, not knowing there was another continent in between, thought he had indeed reached India by sailing West.
The bellicosity and intransigence of Islam ultimately opened the Americas for Europe — and made the United States possible. On this Columbus Day, if you are still able to celebrate it without being knocked to the ground or doused with red paint by Antifa, raise a glass of champagne to Muhammad, and thank him for making the great American experiment possible.

Islam helped form the United States in another way. In response to the depredations of the Muslim North African states (the so called “Barbary pirates”),which were seizing American ships and enslaving, raping and ransoming Americans, the U.S. had to unify enough to form and fund a strong Navy to protect U.S. shipping and citizens. It was Muslim Jihad that compelled this unification.

From the halls of Montezuma to the shores of Tripoly…..That’s Tripoly of Libya, where Muslim Marauder Pirates ravaged trade ships crossing into the Mediterranean. Well, it was all very thought out, and even Jefferson himself studied the Koran, not to be a peaceful Muslim as Obama would have you believe (as he has stated and lied in his presentations)… but to understand why they are taught to enslave or kill the infidel. Obama gave us Lies, Columbus gave us a grand discovery. And the rest is History.

True, the narrative in Australia amongst Muslims is that they were here long before the British or European explorers.
They say there is even archeological proof of ancient mosques in the deserts. In reality these remnants are just the remains of small buildings made by the Afghan cameliers who were brought over in the 1800s to help with the construction of the overland telegraph wire system.
Many australian Muslims believe what their leaders tell them about this and are without doubt that they were here before the white men and therefore more justified in taking their rightful control of this land in the coming years.
tim gallagher says
Yes, any lie will do, Mantel. I heard about that claim the Muslim scum made about Australia. I think it might have been the repulsive Sheikh Hilaly, the one who described non-MUslim Australian women as “uncovered meat” and responsible for their rapes by Muslims. These imams that make these idiotic claims about how Islam made Australia, etc, look like inbred, brain dead knuckle-draggers. Zero historical knowledge. I ignore everything they say. What is really illogical is how they seem to say that once a country was Muslim, then it always stays Muslim territory. They lay claim to it forever. Totally illogical. I think things change. It’s called history. Some place might once have been overrun by Muslims, but was freed. Tough luck, Muslims, just bugger off. I hope that, far from Islam getting back countries it tries to lay claim to in perpetuity, Islam just disappears from the world. That everyone walks away from the primitive, barbaric garbage and it won’t be laying claim to anything anywhere in the world. It’ll be like the vile old Aztec religion. Extinct. I like what Blue Raven says below, Muslims were first on the moon, etc. First in everything. They are full of so much crap.

On Columbus Day, remember: We owe the discovery of America to Islam and Muslims
………………………….
And here, I had assumed this was going to be some claptrap about Columbus having a “Muslim navigator” or something similar.
But the above is quite true. Of course, not all societies are spurred to new achievements by this kind of adversity. The West has proven particularly strong in this regard.
One point well worth mentioning: Europe discovered the New World, the route to Asia, and the size of the globe beginning in 1492–the very year Spain finally freed herself from the Muslim yoke in Iberia. That they then went on to launch the age of exploration is no coincidence.
Wellington says
Many times, gravenimage, over the course of my history teaching career, I mentioned to students that if it had taken Isabella and Ferdinand (more Isabella than Ferdinand, more Castile than Aragon) until 1493 or 1494 to end the last Moorish kingdom in Spain, then Columbus would not have sailed in 1492 but in one of those two years (or even later had it taken the Catholic monarchs even longer to end the Kingdom of Grenada, the last residue of an Islamic polity in the Iberian peninsula, which Islamic presence, as I know you know, went back the whole way to 711). Moorish Grenada was conquered by Spain in January of 1492. Columbus sailed into regions unknown in August of that same year. As you aptly noted, these two events occurring as and when they did are definitely no coincidence. First things first and all that, i.e., rid Spain of the Saracen first and foremost, then finance a dreamer to possibly fulfill his dreams.
A final piece of information, which I strongly suspect you already know, and which testifies to the pronounced regionalism of Spain through the centuries, even to this present day what with Catalonia trying to divorce itself from Spain. It is this: All New World discoveries due to Columbus’ four voyages were attached to Castile alone. Aragon was left out here even though the marriage of Isabella and Ferdinand created, for foreign affairs purposes, a single polity conveniently referred to as “Spain.”
Hope you are doing well, my friend. As always, it is so good to read your posts here at JW. Take care.
gravenimage says
Excellent observations, Wellington. Hope you are also well.
Hugh Fitzgerald says
While Islam of course deserves credit for Columbus’s undertaking, let’s also remember the claim the Europe owes the Renaissance to Islam. This has been stated, with especial force, by Tariq Ramadan, the bought-and-paid-for-by-Gulf-Arabs “professor” at Oxford.
Ramadan insists that the West, that even the Renaissance, would have been unthinkable without the influence of Islam. It’s complete nonsense, as is so often the case with the portentous pronouncements of Tariq Ramadan. The only “influence” on the Renaissance that can be attributed, indirectly, to Islam, is the flight of scholars, clutching their Greek manuscripts, as they fled the Seljuk and then the Osmanli Turks and settled in Italy, and caused what in old-fashioned textbooks (the kind that refer to “Renaissance Europe” rather than the bloodlessly chronological “Early Modern Europe”) used to be called the Revival of Learning, meaning the rediscovery of classical antiquity, and from that, the Renaissance.
gravenimage says
Spot on, Hugh.
And of course, the Renaissance was well under way before the flood of Greek scholars–with as many manuscripts as they could save–fleeing the Muslim conquest of Constantinople in 1453.
rbla says
Take a look at Steven Runciman “The Last Byzantine Renaissance”. The Renaissance began in Byzantium and was transplanted to Italy.
BTW since Muslims were responsible for the discovery of America perhaps all these demonstrations directed against Columbus should really take place in front of mosques.

Here is the scientific ? proof, G:
https://zoneofcompetence.com/2014/08/31/rene-girard-and-mimetic-desire-envy-is-the-key-to-human-behavior/
gravenimage says
I’ve read Rene Girard’s work, and I do not find it comprehensive in explaining all of human behavior.
Were he correct, no human would ever break new ground–after all, he would have no one to imitate.
He also says:
“Whether food, water, or a desirable mate, truly desirable objects are always limited in number. This causes conflict as multiple individuals move toward the same scarce objects.”
This is a reductive view–that everything that is desirable is simply lying around, waiting for the alpha figure to take it. But this is clearly incorrect.
The first farmers did not simply wait around for things to grow and then seize them–they grew their own food, and then worked to improve it.
Gold might have been interesting and shiny even in raw form, but it was not until it was mined and worked that it became of greater value.
I also find his idea that humans are incapable of working together unless they are victimizing a scapegoat to be obviously inaccurate–as well as appallingly cynical. Humans can get together and build a barn or harvest a field without abusing others.
(Of course, if your only point of reference is Islam, this can be difficult to believe…)
Making these assertions on a thread about a man who did something quite unique in history is also an odd one.
gravenimage says
By the way, this is not proof–it is opinion. Girard has some good points–re Christianity, for instance–but many of his opinions do not stand the least scrutiny.
mortimer says
Another great Italian MARCO POLO discovered ISLAMO-REALISM back in the 13th century.
Whereas Marco Polo praised the Brahmins (Hindus) for their “hatred for cheating or of taking the goods of other persons,” regarding the Muslims of Tauris, (modern day Iraq), he wrote:
“According to their doctrine, whatever is stolen or plundered from others of a different faith, is PROPERLY TAKEN, and the THEFT IS NOT CRIME; whilst those who suffer death or injury by the hands of Christians, are considered as martyrs. If, therefore, they were not prohibited and restrained by the powers who now govern them, they would commit many outrages. These principles are common to all Saracens”. (p.63).
This is an accurate observation: Muslims consider that they will receive a DOUBLE REWARD by Allah if slain by a Christian in battle, so they are eager to cross swords with Christians.

It is Black Pepper (Piper nigrum) that fueled the whole age of discovery. In English Tudor times (circa 1500 AD) Black Pepper was worth more than it’s weight in gold. A handful of Black Pepper could purchase a substantial residence in London. The other other spices, cloves, Nutmeg, Mace, Turmeric, etc where valuable but not as valuable as Black Pepper. In the15th and 16th century nobody in Europe knew where Black Powder came from. Its source was hidden and controlled by the same Islamic powers who have held today’s world hostage with oil, a Black Pepper cartel. The Dutch, Portuguese, and the Spanish all sent out expeditions to make it to India which at this time was the center of the Spice trade. It was the Portuguese who reached India first and afterwards the Dutch. Once India was reached the search for the source started in earnest. History repeats itself today when The Spice Islands were finally discovered the spice fueled economies of the Middle collapsed. Today with have a similar thing happening with the price of oil.

Just as the Renaissance owed so much to the Islamic occupation of Anatolia which forced so many talented Christians to flee to Western Europe.

Islam tries to insert itself into everything to gain a foothold, as if:
* Written History started 1400 years ago in the Arabian peninsula.
*Columbus was thought on sailing by Muslims (no Muslims were ever know for being great navigators, as the Portuguese did all their job of discovering African coast lands).
In reality, Spanish kings were too busy cleaning up Spain from the Islamic scum, so they couldn’t offer any resources to Columbus, which could have allowed him to discover the Americas by 5-10 years earlier than 1492. That was the real Muslim contribution to the Americas; delaying the discovery.
FYI says
The simple truth is that America was discovered when the great prophet muhammed built a steam and camel-dung powered submarine out of wood and mud and landed there in the year 834.The next year muhammed, after writing the complete works of William Shakespeare, invented the goat-powered rocket and travelled to the moon to meet his moon god allah with his bumbling sidekick, jibreel.
Alright,alright..that is clearly made up:but then so is the fact that mo was “the perfect man”, the koran is “the perfect book” and islam is “the religion of peace”.
And now remember that anyone who dares say that islam is a religion of peace must suffer the late Ayatollah Khomeni’s famous curse..

Good, witty comments, FYI. Your inventions about Muhammad writing Shakespeare”s works, going to the moon, etc., are, indeed, no bigger lies than the garbage that Muhammad, the vile, murdering paedophile, was the “perfect” man. How evil is Islam, and how barbaric are the creatures who are adherents of Islam, that they could possibly consider a man as evil as Muhammad, a “perfect” man. Muslims just have a completely upside down morality. They just love evil. Allah has to be Satan if he chooses Muhammad as his chosen one, his prophet, his “perfect” man. To decent, civilised people, Muhammad has to be one of the most evil and imperfect of men. Not someone to try to imitate as Muslims do.

Yeah, I read some where that Columbus might have been a secret Jew from writings, and secret symbols he used in letters to his son. But in reality he was a devout Catholic. He stayed in a monastery and read the books in the library where he got the idea of a land to the West. He was a lay member of the Franciscan order and was buried in their habit. There was a push in the 1920’s to have him canonized a saint but it fell through.

Interesting research in Michigan shows that the large pure copper deposits of the Upper Peninsula have been mined for over 2000 years. That has been known for a while but now estimates of the amount mined reveals nearly 1000 times more mined than what the native Indians used. So who mined it and where did it all go?
It’s been suggested it was the copper from Michigan that helped support the Roman Empire. 30-50 ships each summer for a several hundred years could account for the difference. Which might explain the tribes of blond haired, blue eyed Madan Indians on the Missouri that Lewis and Clark met. Smallpox wiped the Madans out by 1810.

Jacqueleen says
This article says plenty….and I’m opposed to flattering Islam in any manner, shape or form. This historical account shows how ruthless and violently aggressive Islam, the peaceful religion and the Muslims have been Always warring with surrounding nations…Queen Isabella had the right idea when she evicted every Muslim and banned them from re-entry to save her country. Then, Columbus was more than likely looking for the back door to surprise the Muslim warriors. Another observation is that Islam is not a religion but rather a pretense while engaging in the politics of the day. The obvious intent of the Muslims is to conquer the world….HAVE THEY CHANGED? THE ANSWER IS “NO!” There is no such thing as a peaceful Muslim. Muslims are the same today as they were hundreds of years ago…..Remember, they follow the dictates of the Koran which remains the same….EVICT AND BAN EVERY MUSLIM TO SAUDI ARABIA FOR FINANCING THEM AND TO YEMEN FOR TRAINING THEM…..Let them live in the desert and battle among themselves. Isolation is the only way to deal with Muslims.
