I’ve been informed by my security team that Stanford administrators will not be ejecting students who disrupt my event tonight.
This is in violation of the policy that Stanford administrators themselves enunciated just one week ago:
“Advancing free speech and inclusion,” by Marc Tessier-Lavigne, President, and Persis Drell, Provost, Notes from the Quad, November 7, 2017:
…What is not acceptable is to disrupt speakers and not allow them to speak. This is inconsistent with our values and carries consequences as a violation of the university’s Fundamental Standard and Code of Conduct….
So for all their talk about the freedom of speech and diversity of opinion, apparently Tessier-Lavigne and Drell are fine with the event tonight becoming a circus of virtue-signalling fascists demonstrating how woke they are by screaming at me for an hour and a half, as happened last April at my event at the University at Buffalo.
I hope that as many students as possible who support the event will show up tonight and prevent this from happening, and allow for a rational discussion of the matters at hand.
In The Coming of the Third Reich, historian Richard J. Evans explains how, in the early days of National Socialist Germany, Stormtroopers (Brownshirts) “organized campaigns against unwanted professors in the local newspapers [and] staged mass disruptions of their lectures.” We have seen just that play out at Stanford: a massive and libelous smear campaign in the Stanford student press, and now the possible disruption of the event itself.
Forcibly suppressing the speech of those with whom one disagrees is a quintessentially fascist act. And it is inimical to the very idea of a university, which is supposed to be a place where ideas are accepted or rejected on their merit alone, after rational evaluation, discussion, and debate.
Tessier-Lavigne and Drell should resign immediately. That is, if Stanford still has any interest in being an institution of higher learning, but it looks as if that ship sailed long ago.
High-tail it to those safe spaces, snowflakes: I’m coming in anyway. I’m bringing something you’re unfamiliar with: the truth. If you fascists of Stanford don’t entirely shout me down, I will tell that truth to you. But I’m ready for anything.
Jan III Sobieski says
Stanford administrators are stalwart members of the Leftist/Terrorist Coalition and as such can tolerant no discussion of Islam so they arranged for Mr. Spencer to be shouted down.
mortimer says
Yes. These neo-Marxist post-modern ostriches have not read the primary Islamic texts and PREPOSTEROUSLY promote themselves as knowledgeable experts on JIHADISM. These academics are frauds and should be seen by students and other faculty as such.
These teachers HAVE NOT READ Robert Spencer’s books nor the primary Islamic texts. They would FLUNK STUDENTS who dared to write a review of a book the student HAD NOT READ, but they hypocritically do that now in the case of Robert Spencer.
Hypocrites. They are frauds.
mummymovie says
Strange, how the left is the new right, and the right is the new left; with islam, not surprisingly, being at the very center of this huge paradigm shift.
I’m not entirely sure we’re all “conservatives” here… in fact, I would bet against it.
Is Nazism a “far-right” ideology?
Of course. The historically reigning of all oppressive systems: supremacist, totalitarian, racist, sexist, genocidal, graphically violent, intellectually primitive and backward.
And sharing all of those endearing qualities (with some new, surreally brutal dimensions) our new globally ubiquitous, inbred friend islam; identically horrifying, savage, and nihilistic in its mad rush toward revealing to humanity a yet unseen nadir; casting upon us all a new X-rated sort of dark ages and perhaps the end of civilization altogether.
Fascism? This ugly stepchild, I haven’t looked up the textbook definition of lately, but it certainly seems to be having a glorious renaisssnce on college campuses as of late.
Reincarnated Neofascism, or Nazism, Islam, etc. – They all stand against certain principles:
Freedom of speech. Civil rights. Womens’ rights. Gay rights. The abolition of slavery of all forms. The rights of children not to be sexualized, sexually abused, mutilated, forcibly married and slaughtered.
These things were once classic principles (though likely back then they couldn’t have imagined the scope of horror islam was capable of offering up) ‘liberal’ societies… principles we always believed were championed by bastions of thought that stood for such ideals; institutions and universities of Stanford’s caliber of yore.
These were things human civilization had had a measurable degree of success at finally casting as out as entirely unacceptable…
Until our own homegrown beneficiaries of wars fought to uphold the freedoms they now unify in steadfast oposition to; our darling, politically correct, blindly multiculturalist ‘safe-spacers’ made it policy to roll out red carpets for jihad murderers who would -and will indeed-muffle their voices and opinions and already have begun to suppress the free flow of ideas offered by folks like Bob Spencer.
One thing’s for sure: We counter-jihadists stand with and for the aforementioned principles. Needless to say, they are worth defending.
And the weathered statues peppered throughout those now Orwellian institutions whose glory Is dying with the light, quietly weep within those hallways and corridors, awaiting demolition; their stewards and custodians having ceded to the spectre of fascism and oppression, ushering in a new unchartered, dark age.
This is why I have switched sides.
Or am I still on the same one?
roger woodhouse says
Excellent mummymovie. That had neatly encapsulated the situation the western world is now facing but is in complete denial. Our politicians(those at present in power)will soon reap the wirlwind they are sowing.Belatedly the British people will be forced to choose sides in the upcoming ‘confrontation’and like the late 1930s admit just which enemy they prefer to fight.Namely totalitarianism or democracy
shaindelgissy says
Mummymovie, you are certainly right that we are not all conservatives. I have always been a liberal democrat. Many freedom of speech issues, and human rights issue in regard to Sharia, which which one would think would be championed by the left, are not being dealt with honestly by them. I am disgusted and do not ally myself with either party at this point. I only will discuss issues. all my family and friends are liberal, and they do not look at these circumstances in which we find ourselves in a completely honest way. I, in fact, have two identities in order to express myself honestly about issues such as immigration and Islam. My prescription for fixing this dangerous time in which we find ourselves is not to attack Islam, but to vigilantly attack all the quality of life etc and human rights abuses that Islam condones such as FGM, polygamy, blocking streets etc etc.

Instead of asking Robert to give solo talks, conservative students at U.S. universities should set up debates between Robert and others. I realize that some adversaries will refuse to debate Spencer, but students could certainly find someone to debate him. I think that kind of event would perhaps get Robert’s message more easily across to university populations, and it would also get the left to shut up and listen to the debate, if only to hear Robert’s opposition. The left, the people from whom we most need to gain “converts” — after all, what’s the use of preaching to the choir? — would listen to a debate where two sides are represented, and the result would be that seeds would be planted in many young minds, and at least a few — perhaps many — would be influenced or changed. What is happening with the current solo speeches, I suspect, is that many students get to stay in an impregnable bubble and learn of Spencer only the slanders peddled by various activists.
PRCS says
eduardo,
Given his shoddy treatment and several colleges/universities, I, too, think a change in tactic might be in order.

Same here. This is Stanford’s moment to display a protocol, behavior, and decorum, befitting a stellar university, a quality that Berkeley’s students were unable to muster. We shall see….
Diane Harvey says
Seems to me that however this turns out, Spencer comes out the winner. The revelations about the left and its principal incubator, the colleges, have been exposed for the totalitarians that they have always been. Because so many have over these last 10-15 years learned the actual nature of Islam, and have asserted a principled pushback against the fairy tales, the left has become even more strident.
Just as a point of information for all the cupcakes and pumpkins out there, Robert Spencer didn’t write the Qur’an, the hadith, or the Sira. He just tells people what’s in them.
Keys says
He wins either way by others hearing and seeing the truth and reality.
Perhaps Fox News could cover the expected disruption (but Stanford Admin. may have banned news coverage); then have Robert Spencer on to talk about free speech in a healthy democracy. Have the above mentioned President and Provost on as well to expose their hypocrisy.
Norger says
“Robert Spencer didn’t write the Qur’an, the hadith, or the Sira. He just tells people what’s in them.”

I just finished watching a couple of the local 11 o’clock news programs.
NBC surprised me by being fairly impartial. The reporter spoke to people holding a few different positions and showed clips of Robert speaking, allowing him to fully explain his position.
ABC, on the other hand, introduced the segment by noting Robert is author/speaker against Islam. The reporter cut and pasted a choppy segment so that Robert seemed a bit manic and his supporters mouthy. When she asked Robert whether he was a racist and against Islam, only the first line of his answer was aired – Islam isn’t a race, Jihad isn’t a race. While I have no idea whether or not the UCBerkeley graduate reporter is a muslim (and frankly don’t care), she is generally the reporter bringing stories in about perceived grievances against Muslims so no shocker that for whatever reason she spun a narrative.

My and our prayers are with you. Please be careful. We need you and your fine mind to continue unabated.
Stanford is clearly not even a low tier university in the sense of teaching logic, deductive reasoning and the Socratic Method. It does not teach its students to think but, instead, to emote. We need emoters like a hole in the head. It seems to a a bastion of broken promises and liberals who cannot tolerate any point of view except their own.
I won’t ever encourage another person to attend such a poor school . The US government should defund it immediately. I am speaking as an academic with multiple graduate degrees and two terminal degrees. Defund it and close it down.

There you have it. The Standford Admin, with the obvious support of the Stanford Board, has just green lighted violence at the Spencer speech. I hope the Stanford lefties do not try a Garland repeat, but I put nothing past them.

What a sad commentary on University life at Stanford that the administrators have to give such a long winded explanation of defense of speech. All they really need to say is provide two points.
1. Hecklers veto will not be tolerated, no exceptions.
2. Students disrupting events will be expelled for the quarter..
American Gentile says
If Robert Spencer’s speech tonight is disrupted, please write a polite but firm letter to both the President and Provost of Stanford University reminding them of their commitment to stop the disruption of speakers, as stated on their blog https://quadblog.stanford.edu/2017/11/07/advancing-free-speech-and-inclusion/ on November 7th, 2017, when they stated “What is not acceptable is to disrupt speakers and not allow them to speak. This is inconsistent with our values and carries consequences as a violation of the university’s Fundamental Standard and Code of Conduct.” They need to keep their word and we need to remind them and call them to accountability for failure to do this. Please remind them that if the leadership fails to keep their word, then who can we trust?

Really is hard to believe, except that we’ve seen it time and again before. Out-and-out totalitarianism. One would think people at a university of such prestige would see how myopic it is to throw away a foundation of our civilization for what they perceive as a short-term gain; then again, it seems our civilization for them isn’t something to be preserved but dismantled. Frightening. This will have to go to the courts.

Robert comes prepared with the best evidence he can muster to back up his claim that Islamic Texts contribute significantly to the Violent Jihad that Militant Islam is currently waging against our universal civilisation. Those who attend his lecture in order to silence him come prepared with fashionable attitudes and ideologically fixed positions; people ready and willing to make up stories on the run. This is the tired type of battle that has been fought for years but fortunately Robert and the entire Jihad Watch Crew have the necessary stamina, and as Robert has indicated, over time, truthfulness has a way of sinking in and overcoming seemingly insurmountable obstacles.

It’s not a concern of bigotry. These people know well what is going on. The issue is money. Petrodollar funded exchange students have become a boon industry for American Universities. This is the place to be for students from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE, Iraq, Bahrain, Kuwait, etc…They spend millions and millions. Criticism of Islam is taboo and the University administrators don’t give a flying phuque about principles. Money speaks louder than principle and I can assure you that Antifa will be attending. Soros funds the core of Antifa, and Soros in turn is just a proxy financier for the overcapitalized Muslim Brotherhood Sheikhs who drop loads of cash in his untraceable offshore accounts. Soros does the bidding of his patrons and you can be sure he will have his thugs disrupting your event. Money is the principle speaking, not debate, politics or religion. Give Stanford a million and they too will find Jews hiding behind rocks:
Bukhari (52:177) – Allah’s Apostle said, “The Hour will not be established until you fight with the Jews, and the stone behind which a Jew will be hiding will say. “O Muslim! There is a Jew hiding behind me, so kill him.”
Or Atheists:
Bukhari, volume 9, #57: Narrated Ikrima, “Some atheists were brought to Ali and he burnt them. The news of this event, reached Ibn Abbas who said, “If I had been in his place, I would not have burnt them, as Allah’s messenger forbade it, saying, “Do not punish anybody with Allah’s punishment (fire).” I would have killed them according to the statement of Allah’s Messenger, “Whoever changed his Islamic religion, then kill him.”

This is more about “political correctness” and Leftist fascism than anything. After all, the students are not directly receiving petrodollars for acting this way.

Students are easily led, and easily brainwashed. They typically lack the depth of knowledge to form critical and principled thoughts on in-depth subjects. A few well paid, well coordinated activists will easily lead a misguided movement. Funding from the top can lead to toxic activism, and leadership at the University is clearly setting policy that excludes the “dialogue”.
