Turkey should indeed leave NATO. It is not a reliable ally or friend of the United States, but has rejoined the jihad force. It is long past time for a reconfiguration of our international alliances on the basis of a recognition of the reality of the jihad threat.
“Erdoğan’s advisor: NATO behind all coups, Turkey must review membership,” Stockholm Center for Freedom, November 20, 2017 (thanks to Joshua):
Yalçın Topçu, a key advisor of Turkey’s autocratic President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, on Monday said NATO was behind all coups in Turkey, stating that it is time to review membership in the alliance, Habertürk daily reported.
Topçu’s statement comes at a time when tension is high between Turkey and NATO due to an enemy chart scandal during a NATO drill in Norway. The image of Atatürk, the founder of Turkey, was displayed by a technician as a target during a NATO military exercise in Norway held between Nov. 8 and Nov. 17. In a second incident an alliance officer posted defamatory comments about President Erdoğan on an intra-NATO social media site. The technician and the military officer were later sacked, and Ankara withdrew 40 soldiers from the drill.
“NATO is behind all coups [in Turkey] and defense industry dependency. It is time to review our NATO membership,” Topçu said in a statement on the enemy chart scandal in Norway. “NATO is not a military pact but the contemporary shape of neo-colonialism. It is economic and political dependency,” Topçu added, calling on the Turkish people to stand with President Erdoğan in the 2019 elections against the “impudent” and “dishonest” moves of NATO.
Meanwhile, Ardan Zentürk, a columnist for the pro-government Star daily, has said Turkey will fight a war with NATO, adding that whoever says they “will not fight” should leave the country now.
Starting with a recent scandal in which Atatürk was portrayed as an enemy on a war chart during a NATO drill in Norway, then adding US aid to Kurdish forces in Syria, a court case against Turkish-Iranian gold trader Reza Zarrab for violating US sanctions against İran and the US refusal to extradite Fethullah Gülen, who the government accuses of masterminding a failed coup in Turkey last summer, Zentürk in his article said: “The US is not now administered by Americans who are accountable to the American taxpayer. Low-life people from the neocon/Zionist lobby with deep media connections have launched an operation against our country by turning [US President Donald] Trump into a puppet.”
“The ‘emergence of the East’ has started under the Erdoğan-[Russian President Vladimir] Putin agreement. The first achievement of this rise should be the immediate closure of İncirlik Air Base [in Turkey’s Adana province] if the imperialist attack continues,” said Zentürk.
Claiming that a conflict between Turkey and the US is inevitable and that Turkey is at the point of “to be or not to be,” Zentürk said: ” It is clear that we will fight one day. … I recommend that those who say ‘I am not part of this fight, my property and comfort come before my country’ leave the country today.”
Both Islamist and ultranationalist/Eurosianist circles in Turkey have been pushing the idea of closing NATO/US bases in Turkey and leaving the alliance.
The Yeni Şafak daily, a staunch supporter of Erdoğan and the government, on Sunday said NATO plans to attack Turkey in 2018.
The ultranationalist Aydınlık daily on Sunday called for the closure of NATO bases in Turkey. The newspaper, which is known for its pro-Eurosianist line, on Saturday had called on the Turkish government to leave NATO.
Erdoğan’s ally the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader Devlet Bahçeli on Saturday strongly reacted to the NATO enemy chart scandal, saying it is time to review Turkey’s membership in the alliance: “We were here when there was no NATO. It will not be the end of the world if it’s necessary that we leave the organization.”
Erdoğan on Saturday said the NATO enemy chart incident was caused by vile people, adding that the issue cannot be resolved with a simple apology….

Maybe they should ask Ukraine, or Moldova, or Georgia what life is like behind the new iron curtain. Or ask Yemen or Mogadishu or Raqqa about the glories of dar-es-salaam. Or ask a Greek or an Armenian or a Kurd how their neighbors will greet this development.
ac says
If Ataturk would live today he would be called the-biggest-Islamophobe-of-all-times! He was as anti-Islam as it was possible for the head of the state in which he managed to constitutionally abolish the institution of the caliphate!
But Erdoğan is an Islamist, but for his own goals, not the goals of ISIS or whatever….
My guess is that the person who presented the image of Ataturk as a “NATO enemy” is actually a competing Islamist (for example, an ISIS or some other similar) fan (because he used Erdogan’s name too). And that it was possible for that person to do this in the NATO exercise only speaks about the unbelievable ignorance of the military involved.
Which is fully unsurprising, given the amount of disinformation made by the top politicians, starting from the former US presidents (both G.W.Bush “religion of peace”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ynG7bcH6ss
and Obama “The future must not belong to those who slander the Prophet of Islam”) but most of the European politicians still cluelessly repeating their claims.
Read about Ataturk, he made great things. Erdoğan still uses the picture of Ataturk as the background of his speeches but his are very opposite of Ataturk’s ideas.
Infidel says
I do not trust a single one of them,, most of them are closet Jehhaadis and will UNITE against the Khufar.. So as far I am concerned. Ataturk is a Jehaadi.
ac says
You really, really don’t understand anything.
Ataturk died in 1938, and he was the biggest anti-jihadi ever lived:
He FORBADE the caliphate and the caliph, the same institutions that existed for centuries and that ISIS, Muslim Brotherhood and a lot of others try to establish again!
gravenimage says
Yes, Attaturk opposed Islam in many ways–but he also did absolutely nothing to stop the Armenian Genocide, including the destruction of Smyrna.
An equivocal figure, over all.
Richard says
Yes, in a sense, Erdogan is the opposite of Ataturk who abolished the Caliphate, yet for many centuries Turkey WAS the Islamic Caliphate and it certainly appears as if Erdogan wants to bring it back. Indeed, Turkey would probably be in the best position of any Islamic state to do so, although the Arab states most certainly do not have fond memories of their treatment during it.
Westman says
Maybe it’s time the TYT (The Young Turks) changed the organization’s name to TFYT (The Former Young Turks).
It’s sad to see Turkey dropping out of relevance in the world after its great progress under the Ataturk reforms. The result of life under Sharia is always mediocrity.
gravenimage says
Westman, I’m afraid the Young Turks did nothing to stop the Armenian Genocide, either.
Even these “reformers” were fine with slaughtering Infidels.

Turkey should be dismantled and divided. The Bosphorus should be controlled by a Western country.

Great idea, let’s take Turkey back from islam. Like Myanmar, we could evict all of the muslims.

I think trying to civilize another Muslim country would just create another quagmire.
Just kick them out of NATO and isolate them in Dar-al-Islam.
Stan Lee says
There can be no doubt that Erdogan has invested his energies and thoughts into an Islamic Caliphate centered in Turkey. His goal is to create in Turkey a great military power, as the former Turkish Empire was, bringing all Muslim states into the Erdogan orbit. Presently, he fears Russia and its established presence in the Caucasus region, which he tries undermine and break away from Russia. But, he knows that Russia is stronger than Turkey, and the equalizer could be nuclear weaponry developed by Turkey. There are enough Islamic states from which Erdogan could receive help, but whether those states want to see Erdogan in control of Islam is the big question for Iran and Saudi Arabia, which also seek to dominate.
Turkey’s first military fight could be with either one of those top Islamic military powers. But, since Turkey is also a NATO partner, NATO would be obliged to back Turkey, which creates a conundrum within NATO, unless it can determine that Turkey is an aggressor rather than a defender.
Guy Forester says
I doubt that any of the muslim countries in the ME want to be ruled by Turkey again. They left a lot of hard feelings behind when they were booted out. Not only that, but the Arabs, Turks, and Persians all believe they are superior to everyone else. When you have 3 superiority complexes competing in the same playground, it can be very interesting.
Turkey’s current love affair with the Russians will be very short lived. I think we should honor this request and remove all NATO (95% US) assets from Turkey. If they want a shooting war, I would recommend the following:
1. Take out the Turkish Air Force and Navy. They are now land locked and have only their immediate neighbors to attack.
2. Remove the Turkish military from Cyprus, which they illegally invaded and NATO did nothing about.
3. Push the Turks out of Istanbul and rename it Constantinople.
4. No further economic or military aid to Turkey. They can now rely on friends like China, Iran, and Russia. I can guarantee you, that love affair will be very short lived.
Chand says
Yup, Guy Forester, they are already close to Russia and Iran( those three just met in Sochi over the future of Syria), and consequently China now. A grand anti US — NATO alliance seems to be a future scenario. They just might support the Assad — Hezbollah alliance against the US — Saudi one.
Like you say…………………………………..”When you have 3 superiority complexes competing in the same playground, it can be very interesting.”
ME dynamics seem to be changing fast.
Chand says
Guy Forester says: “Take out the Turkish Air Force and Navy.”
But you are kiddin’ here, right? Third world war for sure……………………….or Fourth.
We are already in the 3 rd WW (although an asymmetric one) against Islamo-Arab-Fascism.
TH says
It appears that the main reason for Turkey’s desire to leave NATO is that it is cosying up with Putin. Rather strange as Russia was the principal enemy of the Ottoman Empire and it took much territory from it in several wars. It didn’t lose the Crimean war because Britain and France supported it. I guess it’s all part of Erdogan eventually becoming the new Caliph. An Alliance between Turkey and Russia is more dangerous to Europe than to the U.S. Of course, the Europeans are no longer willing to defend themselves.
Sarah says
There is not an Islamic nation on the planet that is a developed, first world nation. When you bring in Islam, its apparently impossible to have a thriving, peaceful, self sustaining, strong country with fairness, justice, equality, minimal corruption and basic human rights for all.
Turkey was slowly getting there. Ataturk should have been worshiped for what he did for the Turks. Turkey had it all there – they were so close. So close to earning that membership to the EU, if not as an equal, then as a rapidly approaching one. An economy growing by leaps and bounds, a nation that could self sustain, feed itself, manufacture and devote resources and energies to research and development.
Gone now. That referendum was the signalling point. The descent has begun, its beginning to gather speed as it rolls downhill, now.
I know that the reason why Turkey has retained their NATO membership is mainly due to their strategic location – and to prevent them from becoming a Soviet ally. And therein lies the rub. A SOVIET ally. The Soviet Union is dead and buried. That’s not to say that Russia, especially under Putin, doesn’t have its own dangers to the world – but the Soviet Union is gone and with it, the original justification for Turkey’s NATO membership.
These days, their membership value lies in their strategic access to the Middle East. There not much value as an access point to the Middle East, if they’re going to align themselves with the Islamic nations in that region. Who exactly does NATO think, that Turkey will choose to ally with, in the coming Iran/Saudi war? Because like it or not, we the West, WILL get dragged into it. And apparently we’re on the side of the motherf@*king Saudis. Because that just makes total sense ?!?!?!
Turkey will stab us in the back, when we’re the most vulnerable and need their support. Mark my words. Get them out of NATO, we really don’t want them involved in any alliance for the coming war. The value of a strategically located military base or two, is not superior to the value of cutting off Turkey’s access to intelligence and military information that they will garner as a NATO member.
Chand says
What you predict, Sarah, is already beginning, looks like. A Turkey-Russia-Iran alliance and them tying up with Iran-Assad-Hezbollah against the US-Saudi alliance is ongoing, looks like. Turkey was the wild card here but now it seems it is definitely tilting towards Russia against the US-NATO.
Guy Forester says
Chand: Unable to reply to you above. Please note that I recommend that we take those actions only if Turkey really wanted a war, as in they start it. I should have made that more clear. Otherwise, unless absolutely necessary, I would not recommend trying to invade Turkish territory other than Cyprus, IF they attack Greece or any other NATO member, then we would need to remove Turkish ability to attack. Fighting a ground war in Turkey would not be like Iraq. More like Afghanistan, but against a truly formidable foe.
Wellington says
Turkey under Erdogan (what a shit) remaining in NATO makes a mockery of NATO.
Kick Turkey out of NATO, whatever the short-term cost, and bring virtually all Eastern European nations into NATO. If Russia were smart, which it has NEVER been, clever but NEVER right (huge difference), it would have been, by now, in NATO too, but Russia’s traditional xenophobia and hatred of the West to this very day (thanks, Putin, for nothing here), goes to a large extent (though certainly not completely so) to preventing a truly united Western alliance against the Islamic world.
And, for the record, it was stupid by America and the West to allow for an independent Kosovo. See, I am making an attempt to be balanced here but, please, I need no more propaganda about Holy Mother Russia being something noble and the West something wicked or depraved. Enough of this shit. Which is why Russia needs a George Washington, Abraham Lincoln or Winston Churchill type (even a Charles de Gaulle type would do). None in sight. All Russia has right now leading it is a clever (and massively corrupt) ex-KGB officer who thinks tactically, not strategically, and with no true vision at all. Not nearly enough.
epistemology says
As usual couldn’t agree more, dear Wellington. Turkey doesn’t belong in NATO, the Turks are aliens. Atatürk was a good man, but his times are over, the Turkish country he created doesn’t exist anymore. Today’s Turkey is on its way back to the Ottoman empire with their sultan Erdogaga.
I wish Russia would join NATO, from a cultural point of Russia is part of the West, part of the Judeo-Christian culture. I think Putin is a very intelligent guy, very rational, so his moves are calculable.
As for Kosovo, it’s Serbian territory, the Muslim Albanians don’t belong there. The old Yugoslavia consisted of six states which became independent later and Kosovo was always a Serbian province. I love the Serbs, they’re great freedom fighters and they saved a lot of Jewish lives in WWII.
All the best to you and yours my friend, take care.
tgusa says
I have serious doubts that NATO is capable of fighting a winning war against this adversary at this time. It is not the soldier, it is their leadership. If and when full scale war does become necessary we will need a huge reorganization. Perhaps it is best to just go ahead and start now.

Wow–I actually agree with Ibrahim itace muhammed on something. Yes, Turkey should be kicked out ot NATO.

Turkey should be kicked out of NATO. Erdogan is serious about reviving the Ottoman Turkish empire. It may sound crazy to you but it makes sense to Erdogan. Here in the USA we think in terms of democrats and republicans. In other countries they have different political formations based in ideologies that are strange to us. The point is it makes sense to them. We must view Turkey on it own terms, not as someone reading the Sunday NYTimes.
Yes ground war is coming to Europe. If the lslamization of the West does not cease NATO will be fighting Turkey; and every other Islamist already in Europe.
Eric
Richard says
Your point is absolutely right, Eric. You may recall in the Spanish Civil War General Franco bragged that he had four columns of troops advancing on a city and a fifth column inside it. The Fifth Column in the Christian West are all the Muslims. When the Allies invaded Sicily in World War II, what really did the Italian Army in were the Sicilians who performed guerilla operations for the Allies against the Italians – including changing road signs, misdelivering ammunition, food and other supplies, etc. This, by other means, is what the western nations will experience in any war against an Islamic nation. The Italians considered the Sicilians Italian citizens. The Sicilians, however, considered the Italians foreign occupiers of their beloved nation, just as most Muslims in America will never – and can never- consider themselves part of our non-Islamic society, which is anathema to them.
John Forbes says
TURKEY I SEE AS THE MOST DANGEROUS NEIGHBOUR AT THE MOMENT!

ERDOGAN IS NOT A DEMOCRAT & POSES VERY SERIOUS THREATS TO THE PEACE IN THIS AREA!

We should already be terminating our military presence in Turkey. All of our weapons need to be removed immediately before the new Ottomans seize them.
