Brava. Long overdue. Why should we subsidize our enemies? The US should withdraw from the UN and expel it from New York.
“Haley at U.N.: The U.S. Will Remember This Day When It Was ‘Singled Out and Attacked,’” by Conor Beck, Washington Free Beacon, December 21, 2017:
U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley on Thursday spoke ahead of a U.N. General Assembly vote to condemn the U.S. decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, and said the U.S. will remember those who vote against it.
“I’ve often wondered why, in the face of such hostility, Israel has chosen to remain a member of this body, and then I remember that Israel has chosen to remain in this institution because it’s important to stand up for yourself,” Haley said.
Egypt called for a vote at the U.N. General Assembly after the United States vetoed a resolution put to the Security Council rejecting Washington’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and its intention to relocate the U.S. embassy there, CNN reported. The U.S. cannot veto General Assembly motions, which are non-binding.
Haley accused the U.N. of disrespecting the United States by attacking its Jerusalem decision.
“We’ll be honest with you, when we make generous contributions to the U.N., we also have a legitimate expectation that our goodwill is recognized and respected,” Haley said.
Haley argued that the United States “is being asked to pay for the privilege of being disrespected,” and threatened to cut off funding to the U.N.
“We have an obligation to acknowledge when our political and financial capital is being poorly spent. We have an obligation to demand more for our investment. If our investment fails, we have an obligation to spend our resources in more productive ways,” Haley said.
Critics of the embassy decision say it will hurt peace efforts, a view Haley dismissed. She said it’s within America’s rights to choose the location of its embassy.
“The United States will remember this day in which it was singled out for attack in the General Assembly for the very act of exercising our right as a sovereign nation,” Haley said.
“This vote will make a difference on how Americans look at the UN and on how we look at countries who disrespect us in the UN and this vote will be remembered,” she added….

Brilliant speech by Nikki Haley. About time these ungrateful freeloaders got a reality check.

Don’t just say it, do it and/or get out. The UN has lost what it was intended to do in the first place. They should be told to remove themselves from New York City.
Nannette says
Let the US leave the UN and throw these global dictators out of America!
The USA will then be free to create a United Democratic Nations…
Karen says
THAT is a great idea!! Why not?
Thomas Brewster says
Now THAT is a good idea.
Carolyne says
I prefer the name “United Civilized Nations.”
Bodega says
Yes, even though being on the Security Council may have benefits (maybe just knowing what they plan to do), I think our support of the UN has had it. No more money to the UN…send the inhabitants of the UN in the USA AWAY, FAR AWAY to another country.
Who or what country deserves the UN? I think Saudi Arabia is a good one. I bet lots of Left hands and head will be left there…I am sure the Saudies not tolerate Diplomatic Immunity for long.
I have had experience with the entitled SOBs who work at the UN. We don’t need them or their children who s**t on our laws and laugh in our faces about their protection behind Diplomatic Immunity.
I do not know of any particular way the UN has benefited us. Tell. Do tell.
I have advocated getting rid of the UN for a LONG time. Now the time has come. We need to fix our infra structure from sewers to the electrical grid. Especially important is hardening our electrical grid in the face the sure to come CME and doing it with money NOT sent to the UN would be marvelous.

Too true – May’s action (so far as she is capable of “action”) in this and previous anti-Israel motions – (such as Resolution 2334 a year ago, aimed at wiping out Israel’s legitimacy and history) – together with her regular insolent criticisms of President Trump, has made me feel ashamed of my country.
On the bright side – within the past hour have just been out and bought myself a clutch of books on Waterloo, the Normandy landings, Pegasus Bridge etc to remind myself what decent people can achieve if they put their minds to it. Plus a biography of Trump – does anybody know if the Michael Kranish/Marc Fisher book is any good, or just a hatchet-job?

I’m so ashamed that India voted against the USA… I was actually shocked out of my senses.. There are many in our country who are aghast at what our Govt had done…!!!….We should have at the least abstained. And I completely agree with the Americans.. I think it will do a ton of good if they actually withdraw from the UN.
Sharyati says
True India could have abstained at minimum. Why should we support a state which would not support our cause on J&K which has been a part of india for 1000 of years. And why the hell should we be worried about an Arab conflict. Shame on the Indian government. We still have not got out of the Nehruvian hangover.
Bill says
Let the UN set up quarters in Saudi Arabia. The Saudis already own it so they may as well host that massive assemblage of criminals, scofflaws, tyrants, monarchs, predators and thugs.
I read that the UN resolution declared that President Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital is “null and void”. Really? The UN is asserting its supremacy over US sovereignty? Great! Now UN, let’s see you enforce that resolution here.
Sharyati says
True India could have abstained at minimum. Why should we support a state which would not support our cause on J&K which has been a part of india for 1000 of years. And why the hell should we be worried about an Arab conflict in which anyway india will be Dar-ul-Harb. Shame on the Indian government. We still have not got out of the Nehruvian hangover.
Chand says
Maybe they did it because, unlike Trump, the Indian Govt. does not needlessly want to antagonize their sizeable Muslim population. The US does not that many Muslims to bother Trump, who doesn’t care about the opinions of others anyway. This move on Jerusalem was just provocative, reactionary and basically meaningless as Jerusalem has been under Israeli control for quite some time anyway.
Chand says
Sorry, typo…………….”The US does not have that many Muslims…………”
Voytek Gagalka says
Bravi! But being “important to stand up for yourself” requires LEAVING that utterly corrupt the UN organization, Ms. Haley! Neither Israel nor the United States has anything to gain from remaining there, expect defeat at “democratic” mob rule each and every time, everlasting frustration and drain to precious resources. LEAVE, please! NOW! Then create a new organization respecting FREEDOM and undisputed SOVEREIGNTY of individual members as its core principles.
Martin says
The UN is a redundant iteration of the OIC. It is absolutely inappropriate for the US to be providing any funding to this organization. It is insulting that it is located on US soil. Pull all funding, dissolve the UN’s presence in the US. Let the Saudis pick up the tab and carry on with it, if they care to.
Thomas Brewster says
I agree. At this point it has become immoral to fund the UN. An organistion that puts Saudi Arabia in its Human Rights Council has no legitimacy in my eyes.
Chand says

Chris Malan says
She is a cutie, but she does use a great many words to say very little. Instead of threatening, the USA should just leave the UN and kick them off USA soil. It is on the useless UN’s watch that the current Yemen calamity is unfolding and they do nothing about it. On Australian TV news, they had a bogtrotter UN spokesman whining about the rest of the world not helping. That’s not good enough. If the rest of the world has to do it, why is the UN there?
ronyvo says
JUST DO IT. No more threats. This very expensive and useless body is gone mad. It is actually promote Islam. It is not peace keeping “authority” any longer.

; We now have the Internet, therefore there isn’t any need for the “United Nations”, nor for their occupying that building, and that building should be converted to apartments for the homeless.
Carolyne says
I used to think that the UN should be kicked out of New York and the property given over to Donald Trump to develop. Since he is otherwise engaged at the moment, I think it should be leased to a developer who will build beautiful buildings as affordable housing for the working middleclass. Keep Bloomberg and DiBlasio out of it. They would give it to the Muslims.
Elizabeth in Delaware says
She’s quiet. Firm. Unafraid. Measured. I have gained much respect for Nikki Haley since she found her feet at the U.N. When she was first named to the post I thought, “Oh no. Trump is signaling he doesn’t really care about the U.N. He’s soft-balling it.” For these bold positions to be coming through a gentle, non-combative lady is brilliant politics. I am so proud of you, Ambassador Haley. God bless and God speed. You are doing your country great service.
Bodega says
I truly admire UN Ambassador Haley. Elizabeith in Delaware says it all. Haley is actually the best UN Ambassaore we’ve ever had in the UN in my opinion.
Carolyne says
There was one other which one could compare with Ms. Haley. John Bolton. There are several other women in Mr. Trump’s administration whom I admire. One is Sara Huckabee Sanders. She is smart and tough. Ivanka Trump could be very effective but she is hampered by being the President’s daughter. What a change from Chelsea Clinton–She is dumb as a sack of rocks.
Kepha says
Although a conservative, I think that Daniel Patrick Moynihan was a good US ambassador to the UN (I’m old enough to remember him).
I have so far been favorably impressed by two southern governors of Indian heritage: Jindal and Haley. However, I should note that as an ambassador, Haley is not speaking for herself, but for our president and his administration. Still, as a high-level female diplomat, she is far above Samantha Powers and Shrillary Shroooooooo.
While I have a jaundiced view of the UN, I’ll wax anachronistic and agree with the late Barry Goldwater that the UN should never be seen as a quasi world government, but it serves a useful purpose as a forum in which international issues may be aired, discussed, and negotiated.
I’ll also add that for Trump to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and move our embassy there (where sits the Israeli Knesset, presidency, supreme court, and all the other government offices) is simply recognizing a fait accompli; and a recognition that the original 1947 UN resolution that partitioned the British Palestine Mandate (with an internationalized Jerusalem) has long been a dead letter. In the past, the UN unseated and expelled one of its original founding governments (that of the Republic of China, which continued to exist on Taiwan, a portion of its territory); it also ought to recognize that Middle Eastern realities (not least of which has been the continuing intransigence of the Arab States and Palestinian Arab movement) have made Jerusalem Israel’s capital.

She sure look good but she is stupid. The actually vote at the UN was 180 to 9. I count nations not voteing or didnot show up as voteing yes as they where afraid to vote due to trump threat.

It is time for the un to begin practicing the diversity that they so often preach to the rest of us. That means moving their headquarters to a different country every so many years. I hear the night life in north korea is a real killer.
Browndog says
It is about time to call a spade a spade. There is no reasoning or common ground. Jerusalem taken by conquest is far from an Islamic holy city as it’s 6000 year old history belongs to the Jewish people. Pandering to this cult needs to cease and the strong arm applied. It is not compatible with the west and entertaining their B.S. is nothing short of ridiculous.
