Why hasn’t this mosque been shut down? Because to do so would be “Islamophobic.” “Islamophobia” overrides national security concerns.
“‘We Assume He Became Radicalized in New York’: NYC Subway Jihadist Attended Terror-Linked Mosque,” by Edwin Mora, Breitbart, December 13, 2017 (thanks to Ken):
The failed New York City subway bomber reportedly attended a terrorist-linked mosque in Brooklyn that was once funded by the Saudi government.
In an unsealed “confidential” report on counterterrorism issued by the NYPD’s intelligence unit, the agency designated five individuals linked to the Masjid Nur Al-Islam mosque attended by the NYC terrorist Akayed Ullah as “most dangerous.”
Bangladeshi law enforcement learned from Ullah’s relatives that the 27-year-old terrorist “had shown no sign of being interested in extremism before [moving] to US [sic] with his family in 2011,” reports the Dhaka Tribune.
In the criminal complaint filed against Ullah, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) acknowledged that the terrorist’s radicalization process began at least in 2014 when he came into contact with pro-Islamic State materials online.
In a Facebook post written before the attack, Ullah reportedly wrote a message proclaiming that U.S. President Donald Trump had “failed to protect” America.
Although Ullah was the only one seriously injured in the attack, another five people were also wounded.
“Fortunately for us, the bomb partially detonated,” New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo told CNN. “He did detonate it, but it did not fully have the effect that he was hoping for.”
Dhaka’s Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit has been collecting information on Ullah through his wife and her parents since the attempted attack on Monday.
“We did not get any information to indicate that he was radicalized in Bangladesh,” determined Mohammad Saiful Islam, the deputy commissioner of CTTC. “We assume that he became radicalized in New York. We are trying to learn more.”
Bangladesh’s Foreign Ministry reportedly described the jihadist as a “homegrown U.S. terrorist” when the U.S. State Department asked for information.
Echoing other assessments, the Center for Security Policy (CSP) reports:
Ullah attended the Masjid Nur Al-Islam mosque, known to have many terrorist links and used to be funded by the Saudi Arabian government. Among the members, the son of a former imam at the mosque, Adnan Gulshair el-Shukrijumah, became a senior member of al Qaeda and another member, Abdul Rasheed, was convicted for plotting to blow up the United Nations (U.N.) building and the Holland Tunnel.
The Bangladeshi terrorist “was close to the mosque’s Imam and was often seen with him at afternoon prayers,” the New York Times (NYT) learned from a regular attendee identified only as Mohammad.
Early this month, News 12 Brooklyn reported that local Muslims have linked the mosque’s now former imam to corruption and embezzlement.
He “deceitfully” took control of the worshipping facility, known to serve the area’s Bangladeshi community, and shut it down, leaving congregants to pray outside while they attempt to find answers.
News 12 learned from the worshippers that the “former imam stepped down in August after an alleged embezzlement scandal, but not before he transferred ownership of the building to himself.”
The NYC jihadist is not the only member of his family to have attended a suspicious mosque.
CSP notes:
Ullah’s brother also reportedly attends a mosque with a history of terrorist associations. Ahsan Ullah was reportedly an attendee of Masjid al-Salam, the same mosque where the infamous blind sheikh Omar Abdel-Rahman used to preach. Rahman is considered the mastermind behind the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center. Abdel Rahman died in February of this year.
Bangladeshi authorities believe Ullah’s radicalization process began after his father — freedom fighter Sanaullah Miah— succumbed to cancer in New York.
Citing Ullah’s acquaintances and relatives in Bangladesh, the Dhaka Tribune notes: “He started exhibiting an increased interest in religion after that. He told his family members to offer prayers regularly and put pressure on them to follow Salafism, an ultra-conservative branch within Sunni Islam.”…

Many mosques that need to be shut down. We are playing catch up with these people.

Not enough. If mosques are closed, they will continue to meet in the back room of hairdressers, greengrocers … or private homes. They are crazy … all of them. It is not normal to meet in a barber shop to pray every day and several times. Although they say that they do it peacefully … that is not healthy, from that prayer nothing good comes out, only religious fanaticism. There is only one solution, we all know what it is but we do not want to face it, rather the politicians do not want to face it … and our societke are increasingly contaminated with these Muslims.

Shutting down these Mosques is still a good first step.

No first Islam must be declared an evil cult and it’s practice in any form should be forbidden.
Also a tremendous campaign by government must be undertaken to educate people about true Islam.
Since that time If ever comes to fruition watch your back.

I second that. Islam has killed way more people than Ebola. Islam should be declared as an extremely dangerous ideology that affects rationale thought, paralyzes common sense and harms the surroundings.

“…….. first Islam must be declared an evil cult……………”
Yes, that is the only way to shut down mosques.
Unfortunately that can never happen under existing liberal democratic mores. First there has to be a revolution to establish a non-democratic regime…….e.g. Stalinism or Hitlerism.
Or “Islam should be declared as an extremely dangerous ideology that affects rationale thought, paralyzes common sense and harms the surroundings.”
Won’t happen either. There are millions of Muslims who would admit to being followers of Islam but who happen to be normal citizens, part of the economic system, working as other humans with their tools and brains, thus proving this idea wrong.

Dhaka’s Counter-Terrorism unit said:
“We assume that he became radicalized in New York.”
So this muslim is “radicalised”: others, apparently, are not..
A challenge for New York Police:
Define the difference, or stop using the term.

This keeps happening, doesn’t it? They come with sweet ecumenism and interfaith whatever, then next week we hear what they say among themselves in their mosques.
Mosques don’t need to be shut down. They need to be heavily and closely monitored.

Isn’t it just AMAZING how more and more muslims become radicalised in mosques where imams preach who are financed by Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Iran and Turkey. Maybe there’s a connection? I wonder what it could be…

Kudos to McMaster (the man, not the University) for calling Turkey on this. Now what do you suppose happened when they called our FBI team on the carpet in Ankara? Nobody’s talking about that conversation.

Questions to ponder:
Why doesn’t a radicalized Muslim become extremely kind, loving, peaceful, compassionate and full of mercy in accordance with the fundamentals of his religion?
As Karen Armstrong puts it: “The Koran is nothing but a cry for compassion.” So where in the radicalization process did it go wrong when this guy exploded as many devout Muslims before him? Was the quranic cry for compassion drowned out by the traffic noise in New York?
And why does this flesh and blood caricature of the prophet Muhammad not cause an uproar in the Muslim world that transcends the worldwide outrage provoked by an offensive caricature of the same prophet published in an otherwise uninfluential Danish newspaper some years ago? Does flesh and blood not count more than ink and paper?
Who can explain?
M says
Who can explain the thought process of anyone who is insane and full of hate? Their book is about murder rape and domination, their ideas twisted, their “religion” functions as a cult. Their book is not about kindness or tolerance. They follow whats in their book. They’re brainwashed just like Manson Family and just as ready to commit acts of atrocity. There is no explaining it. Or rather, we can all see its insane and disgusting…doesn’t need to be explained beyond the fact that its abnormal and abhorrent to civilized society. Why do people mutilate/torture animals and abuse children? I don’t know. It’s just wrong so lock them up and get them out of normal society. Why do muslims scream supremacist hatred and plot terror? i don’t know. Lock them up, deport them and get them out of normal society.

Good points, Benedict.
And I have always thought re that ridiculous Karen Armstrong claim, that the only cry for compassion related to the Qur’an comes from the victims of Islam hoping against hope for some mercy from Muslims.
Jaladhi says
THese mosques only teach Muslims what is written in Quran and of course Quran is full of ordering to commit terror against non-Muslims. So what is the surprise that a plain ordinary day to day Muslim decides to put in action what he has been hearing in his mosque. All this talk about radicalization on the internet or being influenced by ISIS or al Qaeda etc is just nonsense. Muslims learn what they need to do to non-Muslims right in their home and local mosque. We need to shut down these mosques and throw all these imams out of the country. But even then there will be no less jihad terror. Its the Quran, stupid and jihad terror is holy to Muslims!!
tired vet says
There are no radical Muslims, only orthodox Muslims and secular Muslims. At any given moment, a secular Muslim can become devout and transform into an orthodox follower of their prophet…then the trouble begins.
elee says
Wise man, that tired vet. I’m so tired of reading about some saccharine ecumenical interfaith event with those warm soft Muslims, then reading next week what the same Muslims say at their mosques.
